  1. Absolutely hate that arm action. Rubber band stretching. It does not make me optimistic about his longevity.
  2. Fastball hit the umpire right in the foot. Severino missed it.
  3. Wojo being pulled after 7.1 innings. Best start of the year so far.
  4. Wojo at 104 pitches. I hope he can go nine, but I doubt it. He just hit the umpire with a fastball.
  5. I used to squeeze cigarette butts out into a little metal pipe and smoke it. Nothing was wasted. Quit five years ago and haven't looked back. Only side effect I had was an explosion of canker sores a few weeks later that lasted about a month. I went through a lot of alum getting rid of them. Fortunately, that stopped. Very annoying.
  6. Not sure if Hyde will send him back out, though.
  7. I'm in the process of watching the 1969 World Series and Mrs Babe Ruth was interviewed from the stands a few times. The commercials are left in as well and it's from a Canadian TV network.
  8. If Wojo can get another quick out, I may let him go out for the eighth. He doesn't look tired at all. Velocity still around 92. Slider still looks good.
  9. They should let him go until he allows a hit at least, but I don't know if they will push him in this heat. It's 99 degrees here and I'm about 30 mins from the city. It's got to be hotter there.
  10. The strikeouts kinda screwed him, but hey never know. Wojo's in unknown territory at this point. It would be awfully impressive if he pushed through this though and did it.
  11. I don't see how that won't happen if he keeps it going, but at 85 pitches through six, it may be up to the bullpen for a combined no hitter.
  12. Jinxes don't exist and I'm not that important. You know how many no-hitters I've watched in the last couple weeks? Every one of them, the no hitter was mentioned for at least the last four innings. They still got the no hitter.
  13. 73 pitches through five innings. I don't think he completes four more innings in 27-30 pitches and I don't think he'll be allowed to go 130+ if he even can. Still, no-hitting a team like Boston for this many innings is an accomplishment in an of itself.
  14. Oh I know, but stuff like that is what I look for with rookie hitters. He seems to be avoiding prolonged slumps and bouncing out of little ones. That's a good sign.
  15. He already had a 2-for-22 stretch which included an 0-for-15 and bounced out of that. He had another 2-for-16 stretch and bounced out of that. He had a 1-for-12 stretch and bounced out of that. He seems to be pretty good at making adjustments and bouncing back.
  16. Wilkerson has been playing really well the last two weeks which probably had a lot to do with it, but good to hear that Santander has earned the starting CF job for now. Wilkerson took Broxton's role form him and he deserves to have it. He's even pitched twice. No problem with this move at all.
  17. I said "makes plays" not catches a ball. Failing to make plays that other outfielders would make on a consistent basis would qualify as not making plays often enough. It wasn't meant as much as a rebuttal as a comment on Frobby's comment. If most people don't agree with the metrics, they won't be accepted. Even the knowledgeable fans, the players and managers seem to think they are deeply flawed stats. I don't see too many arguments against the legitimacy of the offensive stats. I mean, they're not perfect, but certainly more accurate when applied in the real world. If most teams have their own metrics, they must also reject UZR as being any good. They don't seem to reject the offensive ones, though.
  18. They are nice stats to have for sure. I guess to me, I look at it like.. either the guy can makes plays on defense or he can't. If he can't, it's pretty obvious. I don't care if he's diving all over the place or not. All I care about is whether or not he can make the plays. Santander supposedly gets a bad jump on balls, but he's made some nice plays out there and really hasn't looked nearly as bad as I expected him to look. Now, being able to make plays despite getting a bad jump may indicate a guy that has a limited shelf life out there as he ages. That I can buy.
  19. Quantitative analysis should always be questioned just like anything else. Not doing so is, IMO, naive. If such analysis can't hold up to criticism and questioning, then it's not much of an analysis. Besides, that analysis was compiled by other humans with the same potential for biases and have their own ideas about what should and should not be included in the analysis. Work done by humans is likely just as prone to flaws as the humans that did the work. That said, I'm ok with some of the offensive statistics, but have never been all that impressed with the defensive ones though I did try. They need a lot of work.
  20. That's Boston for ya. He didn't deserve that, but folks around here aren't much better sometimes.
  21. Eshelman deserved what he got tonight, but the fact that Boston is destroying us after last night and the comments afterwards is not in the least surprising.
  22. Okay, Eshelman. Your team just picked you up. Let's see what you do with it.
