Let's talk about the Cavalry. Do you remember who the Cavalry was? David Hernandez has had a nice MLB career, and he was traded for Mark Reynolds who helped bring the club back to some respectability during his time. Chris Tillman?  A good career, ended by shoulder injury, All Star and Ace of staff during the run. Zach Britton? Top closer in the game during his time here, left in the bullpen during the wildcard game.  Jake Arrieta, Cy Young award winner albeit after leaving and being allowed to "be himself" certainly not a "development issue." They never taught him a thing elsewhere. He simply started listening to better voices a bit after hitting rock bottom after the trade.  Brian Matusz was just a blown draft choice., Never had the "stuff" to go with his pedigree. He was developed completely while in college. Just nothing more in the tank. And finally Brad Bergeson. MASN blew his arm out in an ad. How is that on development?

Rich Hill was developed to the majors by the Cubs. Buzzer on ya. Injuries and journeyman until he rebuilt himself in independant ball.

Wade Miley? Come on. He was never in the Orioles farm system. You are just talking someone who had success elsewhere while failing here and elsewhere.

Give me some more of your countless examples so I can swat them.  And thanks for calling "BS" on me. My belief in talent being ultimate is well documented here.

There is no question the Orioles have been poorly run for a long time and that Peter Angelos was a buffoon as a "Baseball Man." There is no question that the staffs in the minors were inadequate as were the facilities. There is no question that the organization did not have one voice and a direction.  There is no question that rebuilds when necessary were not permitted. Those reason are why the Orioles are the worst team.

Injuries and developmental blips alway occur for teams. All teams. That is why  the strategy of putting lots of talent around  from all avenues is a winning technique and coaching up what you have is a losing one.

So your “swatting them away” is just making excuses for why 5hey were not very good Orioles pitchers (save for Tillman and Britton, who was a failed starter)

You know there are countless examples.

I challenge YOU to name a few pitchers that we developed well above their “potential”, or any Free Agent that came to Baltimore and performed, in an Orioles uniform, to a level above their career average.

if you can, it will be a short list.

We cannot develop pitchers.  Everybody knows it.

No need to shout. You need the raw materials. You are not gonna make an ace out of someone with a three ceiling. A guy won't hit without a hit tool.

Oh stop with the BS excuses. I have watched this team for decades just blow through pitching “talent” and fail to have free agent pitchers live up to their potential.

    Remember “The Cavalry”

How about Rich Hill?  Wade Miley? Arietta?

Just a few of countless examples.

They need to figure this nonsense out where “The Baltimore Orioles” baseball franchise is incapable of developing any pitcher to their full potential.

    Period.

He held firm but we could have “bought” and took advantage of teams with a 40 man crunch.

The Yankees traded Joe Harvey for an A ball flier. I’ll admit, the type of flier you like though.  Former $ 1 million int’l signed in a ball.

    https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/07/rockies-acquire-joe-harvey.html

The Brewers traded away a SP prospect in March Duplan.

    https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/07/twins-acquire-marcos-diplan-from-brewers.html

The Rays traded away OF Joe McCarthy to SF from TB’s deep system for a guy that isn’t wasn’t even top 30 in SF’s terrible system.

    https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/07/giants-acquire-joe-mccarthy-from-rays.html

Elias says we will use all of our int’l slots but 98% of the int’l signings happen on J2. See T Shirt. So we’re sitting on int’l slots. IMO we could’ve paid Villar’s salary and gotten some int’l slots for that. Maybe some of those buy us a player from above?

Sometimes you have to acquire assets. Not just sell.

Overall, it just goes along that Elias isn’t really making too many moves. People are going to be split if that’s good or bad. He didn’t work the waiver wire as much as he could have with the top AL position all offseason. He didn’t acquire SP depth in the offseason.  He only recently made small moves to get Brooks, Wojo, and Eshelman, just to fill slots. Dwight Smith was a just to fill a need for a stop gap OF on OD. We haven’t really promoted guys in the minors. Also, I don’t think Elias got nearly the guys he wanted in terms of coaches, scouts, FO types, because he got on the job so late.

We all have to #trusttheprocess and #analytics, but you can still question...

Agree with a lot of this, but I think you explained why the former didn’t happen with the latter observations.

he is probably not ready to be in a ”buy” mode yet.

some moves would have been nice, missed opportunity.

It's kind of weird - but for the first half of the season, I watched maybe one or two games. Could have cared less.

They've been playing a little bit better lately and I've watched pretty much every game since the All-Star Break. It's funny that just having a little bit of life was enough to get me to tune back in like they are in the playoff hunt.

They are not really playing ...bad... baseball right now.

The pitching needs work, and Mr. Davis is still not helping the lineup....

But they are playing some good games against some good teams.

It would not have been much. And evidently he has a fan contingent here...That loves his style of play.  A fan favorite as it were. The masses will come out to watch he and Trey and Givens give it their August Sept all.

I will be there for some games definitely.

  6. Looks at first glance like he did not want to undersell or give in at the end of his first trade deadline in control.

I am sure he learned a lot and he did not get fleeced lol.

Still plenty of work to do and ways to add talent.

Looks like, for the most part, these will continue to be, your 2019 Baltimore Orioles.

Not sure about $8 mm, but I’ll bet someone will pay him $7 mm next year.

I am guessing it will be because an arbitrator says that is what he is worth in the current environment.  He would be worth more to me, as an Oriole, for the reasons listed.

I am a season ticket holder, and I want to watch fun baseball up to and including when we finally win something.

Yeah. You kinda are. He costs a bit and adds very little.

I guess 1.3 WAR is not awful. But a rebuilding team doesn't need that.

I play in a really in depth fantasy baseball league, and he is the 18th most valuable player in the American League, including pitchers.  He does some things very well.

He is not blocking anybody, either
