  1. Matt Nokes, ‘95. Hit the ground running w/DET in ‘87 with 32 HR and a T3 ROY finish. Never quite reached those heights again, though he did have a couple 20+-HR years with the Yankees. He was still “only” 31 when he signed in Baltimore...you’d figure he could spell Chris Hoiles once, maybe twice a week and occasionally get some play at DH. Apparently it was an old, old 31, though. 54 at bats, 6 hits, and 2 HR later, he (and apparently his career) was dunzo. Speaking of that ‘95 squad, one could probably make a case (such as it is) for Andy Van Slyke, as well.
  2. Save for maaaayybe the Astrodome, but as it would've been already 4 years old in '69, that novelty may have worn/been wearing off by that point.
  3. Did you omit an "and" between these two words/names?
  4. If we're indeed venturing into single season worst ever – and the sentimentalist in me is loath to say this - may I present one Chris Tillman, 2017? 19 GS, 93 IP, 7.84 ERA, 6.93 FIP, 1.89 (!) WHIP, 12 H/9, -2.2 WAR. Two years removed, it’s remarkable to see in the cold, hard numbers just how ineffective he was that season. Perhaps even more remarkable that management saw fit to bring him back for the following season, although that experiment was understandably and mercifully short-lived.
  5. Ol' Robert Moses (Allegany Co.'s own) certainly had his moments, though.
  6. He's certainly had his struggles since, to be sure. Nevertheless, here's another Elias/Houston tie-in. Semi-interesting. I wonder if he's any kin to the (unfortunately late) former Baltimore farmhand Vaughn.
  7. And to think, that team had Jeff Stone in the wings as a def....well, as a replacement of some sort. (Although, on second thought, perhaps not for that particular game, as he was injured early on and was banished to Rochester basically for the season's balance.)
  8. Well, if the recent Hall of Fame voting is any kind of extrapolation, perhaps Mo Rivera. As for Davis, I'm rather encouraged by what I've seen since the hitless streak ended. The K:BB ratio (1:12) is still lacking, but if the dearth of walks is directly related to his attempting to be more aggressive, then well and good. I'd also be interested in going back and seeing how many of those K's were looking.
