I have never understood the idea of sending guys who have never been to the minors on a rehab assignment to a lower level, especially someone who is about to be in the majors.
I wonder what the reasoning behind that is?
Is everyone confident he gets recalled that quickly. I am skeptical but could be wrong. If he struggles offensively, will they still recall him?

Disappointing news on Velez. I guess he isn’t a nugget. Elias doesn’t seem to be the nugget finder that DD was…

Lowther got lit up last night starting for Norfolk. 1 inning, 7 runs, 5 earned, ouch.

I would rather have Stewart's bat than McKenna
Neither are good but McKenna is supposed to be great defensively and have a good eye (just no fastballs above 93 please).

Seattle DFA'd 3B/1B Kevin Padlo. Former Rays farmhand. #19 Rays prospect in 2020. Better defensive 3B then Nevin or Bannon. 55 arm. More power than Gutierrez. 55 power. But not as strong an arm as Gutierrez's 65. The 25 year old has one option left.

What do you know about Nevin’s defense at 3b? He’s red hot. 3 more hits tonight and batting .350.

988 OPS so far.
Down to .230 with 3 more k’s tonight.

I'd check those Westburg numbers again.
Batting .250 with pop but that’s not going to earn a promotion rapidly.

He is not a free agent after next year. This is his Arb 1 season.
Thx. What are your thoughts on using this bad news to lock him up to a favorable deal?

I like Means a lot, but I would not extend him now. I want to see how he looks when he returns.
TJ isn’t the risk it once was. You are my fav poster on here but gotta disagree on this one (unless his agent is Boras).

Means signed at a discount on a two or three year deal isn’t the same as overpaying Davis for seven years.
Yeah. Straw man.

It would also buy some goodwill with the fanbase. I'd rather see money spent on John Means instead of signing the next Ubaldo Jimenez.
Amen!

Neither Henderson nor Westburg breaking down any doors at Bowie so far…still very early of course.

Well I agree with this sentiment, but I don't know if the Orioles are going to want to spend money on a player coming off a serious injury.
In fact as other posters are speculating this might be used as an excuse to not sign free agents in advance of the 2023 season.
Of course, because they don’t want to spend any money. This is the guy you try to lock up with a team friendly deal given the risks and history with Baltimore.

Elias: "Unfortunately due to this unforeseen circumstance we are going to have to extend the rebuild out to 2027."
People are catching on to the charade.

I enjoy watching this guy play. He's fast, looks good at SS, seems to have a quick bat. Maybe he's only a placeholder but he's a placeholder with talent. I'm interested to see what he can do with a full season in the field and at bat. Baseball reference has him with a .5 WAR at this point even with weak offensive numbers to this point.
Strongly agree. Loved the pickup. Fun to watch and 5 steals so far!

At least they didn’t drag this decision out over a few months. Better to do it now and start the rehab process sooner.
Agreed. Isn’t he a FA after next year? Why not try to lock him up given the circumstances?

Prieto to Bowie?

Hall is still there, right? Is he going to Bowie?

I know good ole Harvey was starting.

You keep bringing up Lacy and I keep asking you - have you checked his numbers in pro ball or seen him pitch? I still like him a bit but it has been rocky. I'm actually going to see him v. Jack Leiter in Frisco tomorrow night so I'll let you know what I see, but I think there is big reliever risk there.
We need pitching. Pitching can be risky, but looked like a good pick for the lefty there.

If Rutschman turns into a very good player, that’s not missing, is it?
That was the obvious pick and he was new.
