He’s a CJ Abrams guy.  .133/.235/.167 to date.   But, I expect he’ll be good eventually.

    SG has advocated for Witt.

To me, you can drive yourself crazy with this stuff.   I just want the guy we picked to turn out to be a very good player.   If someone else turns out to be a bit better, I’ll live with it.   I just don’t want our guys to be big disappointments.

You are very smart and enjoy your posts but just gotta strongly disagree here. Not missing on the first round is critically important and better odds for success in the first. That’s why Lacy & Lawlar should have been the picks, def Lawlar. I think we should give Cowser time, he looked good so not too concerned there, just for a rebuilding franchise, gotta go SS over corner OF.

Fangraphs has decided to use Statcast’s Outs Above Average instead of the Range Component of UZR.   They still use the UZR components for Arm and Double Plays.   They’ve recalculated fWAR based on this change going back to 2016, the first year OAA is available.

Among the big winners?   Rougned Odor, who gained 3.5 WAR, from 4.3 to 7.8 from 2016-21.   Also Jonathan Schoop, who jumped 4.1, from 10.7 to 14.8.   The biggest gainer was Nick Ahmed (+6.8), biggest loser was Didi Gregorius (-6.2).

Just goes to show you, fielding metrics are always in flux and so WAR is too.

IIRC Wells had 2 strikes on every batter that eventually hurt him. His waste pitches were absurd and predictable. Head high, stupid.  I don't believe in WASTE pitches, you have a guy down 0-2, 1-2  go after him. Benboom made lousy calls. Neuse's three hits were all on the same pitch, off speed, low, outside which he stroke to right field.  The O's were shifted to the left side. Was anyone awake anywhere?? Benboom?? Pitching coach?? Anybody?? LOUSY execution. The O's didn't adjust.  Nice piece of hitting.

Good post. Def missing our starting catcher already.

If we aren't going to draft pitchers, shouldn't we be all over a guy like this?

At the very least, you put him in AAA and see what you got. He’s been ping ponging around various levels.

Still 2nd, but team ERA down to 2.57, and Fangraphs Team Stats call it 1st in pitching WAR.   Have we been homerun lucky like the Giants (HR/9 leaders: BAL 0.25, SFG 0.26..........HOU 0.60)?    Team K rate only 24th place 21%, so collectively contact has been well-managed, and that very likely is not sustainable.

Savant has BAL 13th MLB-wide (4th in AL behind Yankees-Angels-Rays) in xwOBA yielded by pitchers this morning.

Batting xwOBA attained is .327, pitching xwOBA yielded is .326, and Team OAA is 20th (-1), so across two weeks some Savant key tools of team level stats see the "As is" 2022 Orioles as....almost an average team?

C'mon Grayson, c'mon Adley, c'mon Kyle, c'mon Jordan.    Heal well, John.

We may still be a 100-loss team, but we'll at least be a more interesting one.    The depth will definitely not be there as the league starts to get a book on what the hot starting Orioles pitchers are doing.

No way the pitching holds up, but fun to watch for now. Your right, last couple of years were barely watchable at times, big difference so far but it’s early and in ST pitchers always ahead of the hitters typically.

If it's not bull**** that they saw something in his analytics that they thought they could work with and make him into a good pitcher after 12 years in the majors, I will be impressed.

Until then, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.
