  1. Something Ben has talked about is that pitchers don't like getting told to "pitch around" guys. They want to either get the guy at the plate or not pitch to him at all. Of course you can nibble as a pitcher, but I don't think it's worthwhile to tell Felix to throw four fastballs that aren't supposed to be close to being strikes. As for Judge's discipline, he has one of the highest walk rates in the league and he knew he was the tying run. Either make some effort to get him out (my personal choice) or move on to the next guy. It is what it is though, I think Banks and I will agree to disagree. We are disappointed but we move on to the next.
  2. He got ahead 0-2 and then should have IBB'd him? Or they should have thrown up the four fingers before throwing a pitch? Or they should have just pitched around him from the start of the AB and not tried to get ahead at all? Please share which of these you mean. If Felix threw a fastball and Judge hit it out, it would be "how did they throw him a third fastball, he just got two looks at it!" Second guessing the split there is just revisionist. That's his out pitch and he very rarely gets hurt throwing it. As for everyone "knowing it was coming," Bautista only regularly throws two pitches -- it could be me as the hitter and I would have a fair enough chance at guessing what is coming. He (and almost every other late-inning reliever) has his share of successes and failures despite that. And I don't care if the hitter was Barry Bonds -- you don't want to put the tying run on base and bring the GW run to the plate. You want to get Judge out. Besides, Felix strikes a lot of guys out and it's not like Judge is Wade Boggs when it comes to making contact. Bautista's control is abysmal and literally any pitch he throws has a chance of ending up in the happy zone. it is what it is. A lot worse hitters than Judge could have made him pay on that pitch.
  3. They weren't attacking him, Baustista's control with the split is just abysmal. There is a chance he will leave it there every time he throws it, even if he's trying to waste one. You acknowledge he wasn't trying to throw a strike and then criticize him for "attacking" Judge? I don't understand, are you saying he should have been IBB'd?
  4. "Now he doesn't want to load the bases, so look for low and away... but watch out for in your ear"
  5. Did Jim just start a story during that fade to commercial?
  6. Honestly, Ortiz deserves a run of starting every other game at SS for a couple weeks
  7. I like the tradition, and I like singing along, but I can see why I might feel differently if I didn't like the song.
  8. Just the impression I am under based on years of Nike doing this, first in college football, then NBA and now MLB. I don't think the O's CCs are the worst example of this but a lot of times the narratives they attach with the unveilings verge on cringe-inducing. And the goal of the City Connects is to sell jerseys, and the design is the most important factor in achieving that goal.
  9. Nike designs what they want to design and backs their way into the BS "storytelling" later. Wow, real deep, there's more to Baltimore than meets the eye. We have to power through nine dates this year (mostly Friday home games), and then hopefully they will switch to white pants (as the Dodgers and Rockies have done with their originally-monochrome CCs). The hat could have been alright with an orange logo, but these aren't meant to look good, and hoping for any positive design elements to come out of these is setting oneself up for disappointment.
  10. Alright, who cares what traffic toronto has had, time to tie it up
  11. They're way too far along in the process to scrap them based on negative reaction to the leaks. My only hope is that they wear them as little as possible.
  12. Not to argue over what is a meaningless point, but it took a precision rocket from right to just barely get Frazier. I'm fine with taking that chance to get into scoring position in that situation
  13. If it makes us feel any better, Frazier would still be stuck on 3rd
