  1. Yeah, I think an average major leaguer is around 2 WAR for a whole season.
  2. Cuse, WAR is wins above replacement which is a counting stat. "Replacement" is meant to approximate an average triple-A player. The logic is that if a major leaguer got hurt and couldn't play, you assume that the team would call up and replace him with an average triple-A player, or in other words, a replacement level player. So for Belanger, over the course of his career, the Orioles won about 41 more games by virtue of playing him and not Joe Schmoe Rochester Red Wing. It's an approximation but that's what that means. For a single season, 4+ WAR is usually all star territory and 7+ is usually flirting with MVP. Usually around 50 WAR is where the Hall of Fame conversation starts. But the whole thing is an approximation and not the end-all be-all.
  3. Hmm, no Cowser is a bit of a puzzler.
  4. Alright alright, get these out of the way now
  5. The blue jays have really been stinking it up this game
  6. The whole thing is also an ad for a credit card company
  7. It's not going to be Cowser, and Frazier should go before Mateo. Mateo at least brings some late-inning speed and defense to the table -- you can squeeze some value out of him without making him bat. Frazier has no value outside of being a below average starter at 2B, and he has been replaced there. Even if Westy got hurt, you could plug in Ortiz and still avoid starting Mateo. That said, unless Mateo is willing to embrace a utility role I don't think he has much future with the team. From a roster construction standpoint Ortiz is, at worst, Mateo with options.
  8. Also, I wonder if the pitch-clock era of stealing bases moved the needle at all with the pick.
  9. Here, I will do my part in filling up this thread. This seems like a fun pick and I trust Elias with the draft. Clearly BPA considering they have other options.
  10. Wow! I Guess he has a good floor with speed+defense. I trust Elias
  11. Mets and Pads are two teams for whom the next 3-4 weeks will determine what they do. Regardless of payroll, there is no use in hanging on to pending FAs if they are 8+ games out of the WC. I think they will give themselves every chance to go on a run before the deadline, though.
  12. It's so when the ad patch eventually comes, it will face the camera for all hitters. So lefties have it on one side and righties the other.
  13. Obviously anyone should be available for the right price. But I don't think any arm worth trading him for is going to be available, so in a sense he is untouchable for those who may want to touch him.
  14. The PBP was Geoff Arnold, and yes I agree the conversation was too much. They meant well but it was awkward and probably inappropriate for them to speculate about his mental health for multiple minutes.
