Really too bad for Dan. The Athletic must really be hemorrhaging money if they are cutting people who are their only voices for individual big 4 sports teams. Years ago they made local coverage one of their big selling points. I wonder to what extent the site/platform will exist in a few years. How much appeal do they have when their only investment is in national writers? I like Stark and have some level of respect for Law's and Bowden's expertise but I wouldn't subscribe just for them. The two people that made the subscription worth it to me were Andy Bitter (VT) and Dan and now they are both gone.

I agree that if he is struggling than he should not play over Frazier, at least not against RHP. But Frazier has been a below average hitter and defender to this point, so it's not like Ortiz needs to go crazy to justify taking some at-bats from him.

If he's not hitting great but he's at least putting it in play and playing good D, he should get some leash. It's not like Mateo and Frazier are lighting the world on fire (and he provides a RH alternative to Frazier). It's a different story if he looks lost, but he hasn't in his few PA this year so I don't think that will happen.

Here's hoping Ortiz gets a little run at SS this time. Would like to see him get some starts vs RHP.

Giolito could be a nice addition, depending on the cost. Stroman could be nice, depending on the amount of Advil the team has on hand. But it's not worth holding our collective breath over them getting more than a middle-of-the-rotation rental, considering both the Elias approach and the market.

Jim Hunter and Mike Bordick as a combo... how we survived that I do not know. Say what you want about the broadcast teams currently, but Melanie is the only zilch on payroll. Brett, Geoff, and everyone else are all at least competent.
