  1. Or without PEDs they just get old like Hays and Mullins. Former all stars. We might not even want the 6th year with them and they don’t come with a pre-existing UCL injury like Miller.
  2. Bautista isn’t even Bautista with 6 years of control. So now we’re expecting Miller to be Bautista plus healthy for 6 years?
  3. Nope, just being as ridiculous as trading away Basallo/Mayo + EBJ for a guy that’s been in the majors for 17 relief appearances. The biggest game this dude has ever closed was probably in high school or his freshman year at Waynesburg College in PA.
  4. If Mason Miller’s value is this high then it makes more sense to put Grayson at closer, let him show out for 6 weeks, then sell him for a Mason Miller haul, then use that haul to buy a rental SP and Closer at the deadline. Heck, we could end up with Cease at the deadline and get the Astros to pick up Hader’s contract for the haul we’d get for Grayson as a closer.
  5. In what world does Mason Miller cost more than Corbin Burnes and Dylan Cease? Wouldn’t it be cheaper/better to just trade for Cease, and just put him at closer? Heck, if we’re selling Mayo+ or Basallo+ we can get a SP arm and convert them. I’m sure their stuff will play up out of the pen. Aim big.
  6. So six weeks makes you an elite closer? How’s that UCL doing of his? Has the league seen him 2-3 times yet? What’s his big moment pedigree? It’s easy pitching for a team with Oakland’s expectations versus us in the AL East. That team is homeless and expected to lose 100. You can’t get lower than that. I guess contraction level expectations.
  7. It’s just a reality check for the fawning that’s going on over Mason Miller who nobody even knew who he was 6 weeks ago. Now everyone is ready to hand over Mayo+ or Basallo+ for this dude. Heck no, but that’s just my opinion. Hopefully Elias’ too. Everyone can have their own opinion so fawn away if you desire.
  8. That’s wishful thinking. I’m not trying to be a buzzkill on a Friday. That’s why I didn’t start a new thread. But the Yankees are a thing. They have the assets in the minors to pull off a trade for a SP and 2-3 bats at the deadline. Rental bats are cheap at the deadline compared to arms. Sometimes it’s just absorbing the contract basically.
  9. Yeah let’s trade away Mayo and EBJ for Mason Miller. Then at the deadline we can deal Basallo, Kjerstad, and Norby, for Adam Ottavino and JD Martinez. Then we’ll have a nice little 2 year run, then everyone can cry that Rubenstein is just like Angelos, meanwhile we suck.
  10. These (insert what you want to) don’t lose either. If we weren’t 3-1 against them they’d be in first place. This is our real worry. Not the little stuff we stress over here. They have a Soto plus their bullpen didn’t lose a step after that trade. Plus, they’re doing this without Cole. Bats are the easiest thing to buy at the deadline too. If we’re on pace to win 107, they’re right there behind us. It’s probably Gunnar vs Soto for MVP.
  11. It’s not October yet. We’re on pace for 107 wins even with the Kimbrel blown saves. We’re only asking our SP to go 90-100 pitches so of course we’re going to be relying on our bullpen a ton. Heck, they’re covering 33% - 40% of the outs even on a “good” night for the SP. So yeah, outside of Kimbrel, they’ve been really good.
  12. Yeah, this whole Kimbrel drama situation is really taking away from how unbelievable this Bradish situation has turned out. I don’t think anyone would’ve guessed back to top 5 CYA level within 40 games into the season. Not a chance. But he’s there. We are beyond spoiled with SP right now compared to where we’ve been. Best rotation since the 96-97 teams? 2014? Better?
  13. I have no problem being contrarian, but this one is too early/soon for me. Hays can at least be our 2nd best defensive OF.
  14. If Mateo has to go to the IL then I think he we see Mayo or Norby up. Advantage Mayo because both have to be added to the 40 man this winter, and Mayo is a better 3B then Norby is a 2B. Well at least for us right now at the MLB level. All things considered. We'd have to DFA someone to make that happen. Probably Ort or Krook.
