  1. I’d love to see my yearly post count over the last 15 years. I don’t think I slowed down much in the dark years. Of course my retirement in August 2022 was well-timed to coincide with the Orioles’ rise so my count has probably increased since then.
  2. Right. Even if it’s AA, you still have to put a charge into it to clear a fence.
  3. Other than the fact that it’s essentially impossible to do that. I do believe umpires are graded on accuracy and there is statistical evidence that they’ve improved significantly over the last 15 years or so. But they still miss 12% of true balls and 3% of true strikes, per Ump Scorecard.
  4. 2 for 3 with a homer and a walk in his first rehab game at Bowie tonight.
  5. I just switched from the Nats broadcast to Melanie. Hard to tell which is more lifeless.
  6. bosoxforlife: The Orioles situation is unlike anything I have seen in my long time of baseball watching. How would you handle? Trade the established major leaguers who aren’t great but are good or the untried youngsters who might turn into stars or bust? 2:48 Ben Clemens: It’s so crazy 2:48 Ben Clemens: I would be looking for stars in any trade I made 2:48 Ben Clemens: they’ve been smart about this, too 2:48 Ben Clemens: Corbin Burnes is the exact kind of player I’d be looking for 2:48 Ben Clemens: so for me, it’s more about what you can get than what you give up 2:49 Ben Clemens: There are downsides to each thing you trade away, like you said. But given how many core positions they already have locked down, you can play for upside in the remaining positions 2:49 Ben Clemens: they have seemingly 4 good options everywhere 2:49 Ben Clemens: might as well take some risk and try to get a high roll
  7. This has been mentioned multiple times, including in its own thread.
  8. Is the grading system available to us actually accurate? I don’t really know though I usually assume it is.
  9. My opinion: posters spend too much time attacking or commenting on other posters. Just deal with the substance of the posts, and if you disagree, back it up and show why you’re right. I don’t always follow my own advice, but I try to.
  10. I think draft pedigree has value. I have reservations about Kjerstad mostly because I think he is, was and always will be a pretty mediocre defender. I was more optimistic about that at the beginning of 2023 but that’s my feeling now. And in the short run (2024-25), I’m not at all sure he can outhit O’Hearn. I do think he’s a talented bat with pretty serious power. But we really don’t need that right now.
  11. True. I’m not down on Holliday, but that was about as bad an offensive debut as possible.
  12. I nave heard the term “zombie runner” used occasionally. That probably makes more sense, since the runner on 2B is the batter who “died” the previous inning.
  13. There was a nice article about him in the Post today. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2024/05/07/trey-lipscomb-nationals-tennessee/
  14. I read these for amusement, but at the end of the day, there’s only one power ranking that matters, and there is no website that decides it.
