How many people actually said they were one of the greatest teams ever? They did hit the snot out of the ball the first 9 games of the year, mostly in a 6 game series in a very hitter-friendly ball park against a bad pitching staff. That said, they’re still second in the league in runs per game. Their pitching has been problematic, yielding 6.50 runs per game.

The idea that Bradfield was likely to be ready for the majors by the start of 2025 was always pretty ridiculous. That said, it’s way too early to say how 2024 will go, and I don’t take “struggles” in 13 games very seriously. I would consider it disappointing if he didn’t play well enough to get 150+ PA at Bowie this year. It’s way too soon to know how his season will go.

They’ve been losing ever since Holliday got called up, and now they’re down Kjerstad as well. Their big five is now a big three (Mayo, Norby, Stowers). It’s still surprising to see how poorly they’ve played of late.

Baumeister threw 4.2 scoreless innings last night, 2 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts. He pounded the strike zone, throwing 49 strikes in 71 pitches. In 14 innings spanning 4 outings, he’s got a 1.93 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, 11.6 K/9, 1.8 K/BB. The walks have been high, 10 in 14 innings, but not crazy high for a guy just getting his feet wet. Decent start for Baumeister.

One thing about this play was the ball wasn’t in the air long. No temptation for the batter to follow the flight of the ball. A good time to 3B is largely about getting a good jump right out of the box.

Well I guess we should just stop watching, since the season is already ruined.

We are getting the top 3 of Oakland’s rotation. We haven’t seen Stripling or Blackburn since 2022. Somehow, Sears has started 4 games against us the last two years, and we hit him pretty hard last year. Their offense is quite anemic at 2.84 runs per game. Odds are their pitchers will really need to shut us down to beat us. But their bullpen is certainly capable of shutting down an opponent, with a collective 3.15 ERA.

I have not noticed that Roch is particularly attentive to McKenna.

To date, in 5 starts: 26.1 IP, 10 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 10 BB, 40 K’s, 1.03 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, 13.7 K/9, 4.0 K/BB. That’s a truly outstanding month of April. Another month remotely similar to that and people will be clamoring to bring him to the majors. Like I said, really the only thing he hasn’t done yet is get through 6 IP semi-regularly, but then again, this is the first time this year they let Povich exceed 86 pitches. So, decent chance he can hit 6 IP a few times in May now that they’ll let him go 90+.

You hoped for more than 16-8? I will gladly take that every time, even with a supposedly soft schedule (which in hindsight doesn’t look that soft).
