  1. Who had albert Saurez allowing just two hits over 4 IP? Wow. Good for him and us!
  2. Damn, looks like Holliday just missed that one.
  3. That was fun watching the little dribbler on the 3D depiction. I was like no way he's getting Westburg on that.
  4. Me: Wondering if Suarez is getting tired after going 3-2. Suarez, 97.2 MPH fastball for the K to end the inning. Me: Nope
  5. Game day said it wasn't. Made it 2-2 instead of 3-1, so it was significant.
  6. Offspeed low in the zone is the book on Cowser and Holliday. Although he got ripped off on that Sweeper called a strike.
  7. The Orioles have now lost 3 starters and are still 11-6, 4th best record in baseball and not far from getting two of their projected starters back. That has to scare some teams.
  8. Yep, there was nothing worse than reading, Ball in play, no outs when the Orioles were pitching and then waiting to see the damage.
  9. BTW, I love the new little 3D game depiction on Game Day. Was that a nice catch by Mullins? Look like it was on there and then a quick throw to 2B.
  10. Gotta love O'Hearn! I think he's becoming one of my favs, especially after he said, "I was going to go full Brett if they took that home run away!"
  11. Work game. No game access for me. Weather should hold with maybe a passing shower around 3:30.
  12. If/when he's bumped, it will be interesting who the Orioles send down if it's not him. Only Akin, Tate and Cano have options. This is why I'm surprised he's the guy and not Zimmerman who does. Let's say Suarez pitches well enough to be a bullpen option? Who goes? Can't send Akin, he's the 3rd lefty and has pitched very well. It's not going to be Cano. So it seems like Tate will have to go back and wait his turn despite pitching well.
  13. He's an excellent blocker, I've never seen any red flags with his receiving, and he threw out 35% of base stealers last year in Aberdeen (this year has not been good so far). He's a solid defensive catcher in my opinion.
  14. Sure, I agree that Westburg was never supposed to be Machado with the glove and arm. I'm not sure anyone else expects him to be either, but you are right, he's not going to make those Machado like highlight reel plays with his arm.
  15. Ok I went back and watched his plays and I think this play here probably gave him a plus one. There were two others to his right that was decent, but not sure I saw +1 plays besides this first one. https://www.mlb.com/video/tyler-o-neill-grounds-out-second-baseman-jackson-holliday-to-first-basema?q=PrimaryFielderId %3D [702616] AND HitResult %3D ["Out"] Order By Timestamp DESC&cp=MIXED&p=0 https://www.mlb.com/video/00u7jzgkdtP9kH55c356/reels - 10 plays, maybe the first one could have been considered a plus.
  16. They have him rated +2 going to 3B side which would be to his right? I dunno. I don't recall any tough plays that he made that way. Maybe he was positioned up the middle and the system didn't adequately establish his start position? Then gave him credit for a great up the middle play. I think there are system errors happening.
  17. I'll be honest, I found the OAA for Holliday very odd. I don't recall him making an amazing play defensively. As big a proponent of OAA that I've been, we've been seeing some questionable things of late with this as well as catch percentages not lining up with where balls are graphed (or the eye test). They haven't released a lot of fielding data this year so I'm wondering if there are some errors going on with the collection or processing of the data.
  18. Or this guy or this guy or remember when some pundits wanted Elias to go college and select Jacob Berry. Brooks Lee is the only guy even vaguely mentioned with the 1st overall pick who has done well besides Holliday. Holliday will be fine. He started taking some good pitches and hit a couple of balls hard the last few games.
  19. Banuelos was only activated because he was on the "taxi" squad. the Orioles did him a solid giving him an at bat last night. It very well could be the only one he ever gets in the big leagues. He spent all of 2023 in AA, and has a career .209/.268/.394/.662 slash line in AAA. He's pass through waivers and if not, good luck to him.
  20. I'm a little surprised he got the call overall since he has no options, but he's a nice story. It will be six years since he's been in a major league game. Quite the comeback story. He hasn't been very good in 2 of his 3 starts this year in Norfolk, and got beat around in his last one for 10 hits and 5 ERs in 4.1 IP, so I guess we'll see. He did pitch well until the 4th and 5th innings when the wheels feel off on him, so maybe he's strong for three. With an offday tomorrow, this is probably going to be a bullpen game and they probably think Suarez gives them the best chance over the first time through the order. He did hit 97 MPH in his last start so the velocity is there, but he also only threw 44% of his pitches in the zone so command has been a problem.
  21. Can we all just agree that the fact he's basing his facial hair from Johnny Ringo in Tombstone is about the coolest facial hair we've seen?
  22. There is no metric yet on statcast that measure just arm value from an infielder, only arm strength. Now, OOA takes into consideration the difficulty of the play in comparison to others so that would indicate the ability to throw is measured in that overall. So the best we can do is go by is OOA and Westburg has been worth 0 OAA, and -1% success added so far. Now, there is no doubt Westburg has below average arm strength for a 3B. His 80.2 MPH avg last year was 21st percentile last year with AVG 3B being at 86.2 AVG. We don't have enough data for his AVG arm strength this year but his max throwing speed is about the same as last year (less than a MPM difference lower). I've seen a few plays this year where he came in and I thought if he had a stronger arm, I think that play gets made. How much that will limit his effectiveness remains to be seen, but I see nothing overall that makes me think he can't be average on the hot corner overall. Like you said, we're not going to see those amazing backhand to gun throws to nail runners like we've seen from Machado or Gunnar, but he's going to be steady.
  23. Weird, you think you are right and every other opinion is "crying". That's just so crazy coming from a humble, self-aware person like yourself.
