  1. Not in this case. Look, I don't "hate" Cal. I don't hate anyone over a comment about baseball. I just personally lost respect for him for saying what he said. The fact that he knew it was wrong when he said that he knew "Baltimore fans" would be upset, tells me he knew what he was saying but said it anyways. I just have a very strong opinion of loyalty when you are part of a brand. Maybe it's just because Cal was a terrible analyst and didn't know how to verbally explain the difference of eras, but he just didn't need to bring up Brooks at all to give Beltre his props. On the field, while Brooks was a good offensive player for many years, he was known as THE best defensive third baseman ever. Few ever argued that point. To have another Orioles legend question that to make a point on a national broadcast when it was completely unnecessary is why I have a major issue with him. I don't have an issue with anyone who doesn't have a problem with him. Just my opinion. And with that, I'm done with this subject.
  2. He was speaking specifically about defense when he said that.
  3. This was the exact quote that I found, ""Yeah, I don't see how he can be underrated. [laughs] All of us who played the game look at him and want to bow down to him," Ripken said Tuesday while on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM. "I said on one of my early broadcasts, I said my hero was Brooks Robinson, but the way that Adrian Beltre plays -- and I'll get in trouble with Baltimore fans, again -- but it seems like Beltre might be the best third baseman to ever play." He knew he would get in trouble with Orioles fans when he said it, but still said it. He went on to try to say different eras, blah, blah, blah, but he could have said Beltre is the best he's seen in this era, he could have said Beltre has better tools than Brooks, but he didn't. He was talking defense and said Beltre "might be the best third baseman to ever play." Statistically speaking, it's not even close between Brooks and Beltre. If he wanted to talk tools, Machado had better tools than Beltre. I'm not taking anything away from Beltre being a great third baseman, but if you're an Orioles legend, you don't say that another player is better than the other Orioles legend that was known be EVERYONE as the best defensive third baseman to play the game. The fact that Ripken would bring this up to shows that he was more worried about himself looking like an "impartial" analyst then understanding his role as a Baltimore Orioles legend. This me-first attitude is exactly why he hurt the Orioles by playing everyday long past he should have. Cal has always been about Cal. Throwing Brooks under the bus was just him showing his true colors.
  4. Haha. I don't expect you to understand respect, honor, and loyalty.
  5. Yeah, his 16 consecutive gold gloves and 12 more dWAR than Beltre in 100ish less games at 3B speaks for everyone, but another Orioles legend trying to score points with non-Orioles fans by dissing another Orioles legend with his BS, non-fact based opinion.
  6. Ha, I agree. I didn't think Beltre is in that conversation either, but at least had he said "all-around" I would not have cared though I still would not have liked, "Sorry Brooksey."
  7. Brooks was way too much of a gentlemen and too humble to say anything otherwise.
  8. Honestly I'm surprised that you would ever ask that. You know why and your old enough to know why it was disrespectful. Maybe you just don't care because honestly, no one ever really knows what you care about at times, but anyone that understands anything about respect knows one legend does not say someone is better at the ONE thing they were always known as being the best at.
  9. Sorry, I just disagree. And it was not rant, it was me stating my opinion. You clearly must be too young to remember Brooks Robinson or have some kind fan love for Cal, but he made a comment he should have never have said. Ever. He knew it, and he never really apologized for it. Brooks was too big of man to be upset with Cal over the disrespect. I can appreciate that from him, but like Mu$$ina will always be Mu$$ina to me, Cal will always be a traitor for saying "Sorry Brooksey" and then saying some BS about Beltre being the best ever DEFENSIVELY. Cal's answer is this was complete BS. This is what annoys me more about him. He literally tried to come up with some BS about physicality. That's not what he said. He literally said, "Sorry Brooksey, Beltre is the best defensive third basman he'd ever seen." He could have said Beltre has the best tools of any third baseman. He did not, then he doubles down in this interview and others trying to say some BS. "Sorry Brooksey" is one of the most insulting things I've ever heard a legend of one team say to another Legend of the same organization. Oh, and add in his garbage ownership of the Ironbirds where he went a whole year with no announcer and a one camera video of Ironbird games and one of the worse fan experiences I ever had at a minor league game in 2021, and yeah, I'll pass on this legend.
  10. Yeah, can't overturn that because he wasn't in the field due to the wall being away from the stands there.
  11. Good Lord O' Hearn is hot....
  12. Zimmerman is on the 40-man and is available to pitch tomorrow. He was better in his last start so I'm guessing he gest the start tomorrow. Long term it very well could be Povich depending on how Zimmerman does tomorrow.
  13. It was not only slanderous, but traitorous. He even said, "Sorry Brooksey" and then went about telling everyone on National TV that Beltre was the best DEFENSIVE third baseman of all time. Even if he believed that, you don't say that about Brooks Robinson and his 16 consecutive Gold Glove Awards. Cal is an Orioles legend, with that comes responsibility, and one of those things is to tarnish the legacy of other Orioles legends. If he had said Beltre was the best overall 3B that might be different, but defensive 3B? Heresy. To me, he stopped being someone I enjoyed. No one, and I mean no one should ever, ever say anything bad about Brooks Robinson. Cal tried to back up once he realized he stepped on it but I do think there's a segment of the population that won't forgive him for doing that in his short-lived (because he was terrible) analyst role.
  14. That's your problem right there. You are getting all riled up over twitteriots comments. Rubenstein can't help if the internet wants to run away with speculation on something like showing a picture of a desk at SS.
  15. Why, it's just a funny promo? Can't believe anyone took anything out of this at all. And who in 105.7 thought this teased a contract extension for Gunnar? Might possibly be the worse take in a long time.
  16. Maybe he heard the Twins are going to part with major disappointment Kyle Farmer soon?
  17. You are about the most petty person there is on this board. lol.... You are so upset that you got called out for your emotional, over reaction statement that Mullins was done that you literally went back to 2023 to dig up when I was wrong. Got to admit, I've seen some childish BS on here, but congratulations, this is right up there. Yes, I was wrong on O'Hearn. He looked like another DH/1B that Elias was stock piling at the time and nothing showed that his breakout was about to happen. O'Hearn proved a lot of people wrong to include me. Saying that, I did mention that O'Hearn's EVs suggested he could improve, but I didn't like the $1.4 million tag for AAA depth, which is what I thought he was since I felt Stowers would be the 4th OF/DH. See the difference is, I can admit when I'm wrong and I didn't make me statement after a few PAs this season. It wasn't an irrational thought that led me to my statements, but an analysis of the roster makeup and current potential roster options. O' Hearn outperformed all expectations and I'm happy he did. But if it makes you feel better, yes, I was wrong on O'Hearn.
  18. Nothing wrong with giving a counter point.
  19. I don't think Ced was ever fully healthy last year. He looks healthy this year for sure.
  20. If Ced was willing to take a 3-year deal buying out his last arb deal then yes, I think the Orioles have to consider doing that. Now, the question is, do they think Cowser can play CF adequately allowing them to open up LF? He doesn't have enough 2+ star attempts to judge his jump yet, but he's already at 2 OAA and he looks like the guy I've seen in the minors defensively. His sprint speed is 73rd percentile this year and Ced is only slightly faster at 78th percentile. The issue is that Cowser is a big dude and will slow faster than Mullins did. There is also Bradfield possibility in two years or so if he can start driving the ball more.
  21. Mullins is 14th in ft/per average, with all outfielders and I don't think it was updated since last night. That's still well above average. So yes, there are speedier outfielders but I still think that catch has to be higher than a 65% catch percentage.
  22. Eh, the board is here for all opinions. I don't always agree with opinions, but it's their right to have a negative opinion about a player. If they want to die on that hill when there is overwhelming evidence that he's wrong, so be it. A healthy Cedric Mullins is still a very good player. It was pretty clear he was not healthy for most of last season.
  23. Check out all the value "stats". 0.8 rWAR, tied for 2nd on team 0.7 fWAR tied for 3rd on team Anyway you slice it Mullins is still an everyday centerfielder.
  24. I'll be honest, the more I watch the statcast catch probabilities the more I think they need to tweak some things. Unless Mullins got a bad jump, which it doesn't appear so, I don't see how that is a 65% catch probability. Sure, there are some other great CFers out there, but damn, that looked every bit of a 5-star catch to me.
  25. I don't like to call people out for bad calls since we all make them, but have you changed your mind yet? Mullins is one of the guys I might extend because we don't have a pure center fielder above High-A that could be an above average centerfielder both with the glove and the bat.
