  1. Yeah, they did there pack it in thing once they got the lead. Saying that, the Rays have a very good bullpen.
  2. Got out of it, but Elias really needs to rebuild this bullpen down the stretch. It will be the downfall of this team if he doesn't make moves.
  3. URIAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hell yeah!!!
  4. He came over as seven pitch starter but clearly his best role was paring those pitches down to his fastball, splitter combo where he's had success. It's a low spin rate fastball but because of the velocity he still garners decent swing and miss. He's certainly worth a look and certainly worth sending Easton Lucus over even though Lucas has taken step forward this year reaching as high as 96 on his fastball from the leftside. Lucas' slider was inconsistent though, but outside of some tough outings in June, he's been pretty good. Saying that, he still wasn't a top 30 prospect for me so he's definitely worth a guy who has pitched pretty well since getting used to relieving and especially well in June. I'll take him over a Bazardo or Gillaspie anyday and he has the upside of being that 3rd reliever they need. I still think the O's will do more to sure up the bullpen though.

I'm going to go back and look at him a little closer now.

I don't understand those power rankings at all. Grayson Rodriguez is 549th on that list with Josh Lester ahead of him at 426. WTF???

The 24 inch IVB does make him a bit more interesting for sure.

Which is why he should be playing there everyday. Get him the reps he needs to be adequate then he's the 1B next year.
  9. Cowser has always needed an adjustment time to new levels and this is the biggest jump of all. He's going to be fine. The one thing I've seen is he's proven my scouting eye right by looking at his jump numbers defensively so far (-2 feet/pec vs avg). Now it takes some guys some adjustment time due to seeing balls through the upper decks of major league stadiums, so he very well could get better, but he's not an everyday defensive center fielder. I mean, with 61% sprint speed he's fine overall despite the below average jump numbers, but you typically want an elite runner in CF. I do however think he'll make a very good left-fielder in Camden Yards big LF if they give him the reps out there. With just six starts this yea and 28 in his minor league career in LF, this is an area where I don't agree with the Orioles development defensively. If you know he's not going to be your everyday CF, why is he getting most of his reps there in the minors? Why is not playing more LF if you think he can handle Camden Yards LF? I've seen this over and over with players like Stowers (played him to LF with little experience), Westburg (mainly played SS and 3B and was getting a lot of reps at 2B in majors) and now Cowser being mainly asked to play positions that were not there main positions in the minors. I understand wanting versatility, but at some point the organization needs to have a plan for where a guy will mainly play at the major league level and give him the reps there.
  10. Scouts disagree all the time so having a different opinion is fine. I'm sometimes very different on players than national outlets and don't even look at their lists when I do mine. At the end of the day, as long as you can back up your reasoning, even if people disagree, it's fine to have an outlier opinion. I can remember being a big outlier on Zach Davies who i liked a lot more than the Orioles counts and player development people did. they felt he was a middle reliever at best and just saw a guy who used all four quadrants of the zone with 4 or 5 different speeds to keep batters off balance despite the big fastball. Nobody else had Davies in their top 10 prospects at the time that I can remember and I think I had him as high as #4 at one time ?? I think. Frobby or RZNJ will probably fact check me! As for Ortiz, I think the one thing the Orioles aren't thrilled with his his lack of walks, but I think that would improve over time and even if not, he's going to be a guy who I think hits for some average. Personally, I think he's just as good a defender as Mateo if not more sure handed though he doesn't possess Mateo's plus-plus arm at SS. Ortiz should be in the major leagues right now but I understand why he's blocked and I'd rather him play everyday than sit the bench like he did when the Orioles brought him up earlier in the year.

Interesting observation. I'll keep an eye out for it. Thanks.
