  1. Agreed. I thought the sprinkler thing was cool, that dong bong not so much. i'm not "offended" by it, but I would not mind if it quietly disappeared.
  2. That very well could be what they decide to do, but I think people are overreacting over a few bad pitches made when he was put in situations that he's not good at. Elias doesn't like to risk guys so Gillaspie could also be optioned while Voth figures it out or at least is used in fresh innings as a bulk reliever where he's better.
  3. He's only seen 1.9% less fastballs this season so it's not a significant amount of difference from last year. He's actually seen less breaking balls but more changeups. And as you stated, he's 0-for-17 with 11 strikeouts on those pitches so far.
  4. He's seeing the ball well and is not afraid to close pitches for balls, but he's really struggling against breaking balls and offspeed pitches. It's a strange dynamic that he seems to be able to judge the strike zone but can not connect against anything that's not a fastball. He's also not off to a good start defensively. Part of that could be inconsistent work, but I've always been worried that the Orioles focus on versatility in the minors would affect their minor leaguers ability to be very good in one particular position. We see the tools that Gunnar has, but even in the minors he was error prone at times. I think we're seeing that with most of the guys they brought up defensively and we see it in the minors. When players are playing positional roulette every game, it makes me wonder how do you expect them to be at their best when they've given up development time by playing a bunch of positions. In my mind you need to decide where a guy is going to play at the major league level and play him there at least 80% of the time. I think he's going to get a pretty long leash, but if he's still struggling by May, I could see them sending him back to AAA for more development.
  5. I haven't really studied the delivery pre and post injury so I can't say. I'm assuming it will improve since he did it before, just might take longer than any of us would like.
  6. Voth has clearly not pitched well this year, but let's look at his usage. Why is he being brought in with runners in scoring position in the middle of innings? For a team that preaches their use of analytics, why are they not looking at his career stats as a reliever? Apparently they don't matter like AAA split numbers don't matter to them. As a reliever, Voth gives up a .303/.369/.520/.890 to the first batter he faces. Does that seem like a guy you want to use in these situations? Last year it was even worse at .351/.403/.526/.930 in 24 PAs. Not every pitcher can warm up quickly and some take awhile to get use to the mound. These are guys you start off fresh innings with, not guys you bring into close game with runners on in the middle of an inning. It's just poor usage. Now saying that, Voth has hung 3 curveballs that were hit hard and his curveball has been very inconsistent this year so far. It has a little less average vertical movement but I think that's because he's spun a few. Overall, his stuff looks about the same besides hanging those curves, and it's worth noting that he pitched much better when he started a fresh inning. I'm not saying he's a special guy or anything, but he should be used in a bulk relief role and never during mid-inning with runners in scoring position in close games.
  7. Grayson will start until Bradish is ready, but after that, it's going to depend on if he can find that command. We see the stuff and obviously the fastball is very good, but his inability to put hitters away with two strikes, despite the six Ks, is a concern. Luckily, it's command related and the hope is that command will improve, but he has not been the same guy since the injury command wise.
  8. I think Mountcastle is going to get the interview! lol
  9. Too early for that. Not sure why Hyde would have him throw.
  10. Humble is not a word associated with Jim Palmer. But he is who he is and that's the best Orioles pitcher of all-time. Mu$$ina was the only one who had a chance to dethrone him.
  11. Gillaspie really needs to find a goto offspeed pitch. I like the split change at times.
  12. He looked real good tonight obviously. Besides the 3 hits including a long right center home run, he made a real nice play on a batted ball in front of the plate where he bounced on quickly, and made strong throw to 1st. For a rotund young man, he moves well.
  13. Yet he won 4 Cy Young awards and is in the Hall of Fame!
  14. But it is quite the record considering the amount of innings he pitched.
  15. Is it a record for a team to use 4 players in the DH spot in a 9 inning game?
  16. Coulombe has been pretty good so far. His stuff doesn't wow anyone but he's really commanded the ball well.
  17. Any game or record that was made when the umpire was referred to as an referee and the ball as "the horsehide" doesn't count. No matter what @DrungoHazewoodsays.
  18. He'll need a big inning buy the Orioles in the bottom of the 8th to get him back up unless the pen gives up at least five in the top of the 8th.
  19. Tells us everything we need to know about how much respect Adley has already.
  20. He got enamored with that power and stopped spraying the ball around.
