  1. Yuck. No thanks. He's a weak leader who collects big paychecks and enjoys an old boys network to run his team. The best case scenario is for Kevin Plank to lead a local group. I don't think he's very interested in baseball though.
  2. Agreed. It's also the optics of Nashville having some very safe tourist areas vs Baltimore having what, the inner harbor where gangs of teenagers run around and attack people for no reason? Little Italy, where people are now being stabbed and shot? I won't get into the corruption at the political layer because of our no politics rule, and yes, Nashville has some similar problems due to policies being enacted by their leadership in non tourist areas, but let's face it, if all things were equal, not a lot of people who didn't grow up here are moving to Baltimore. But either way, I really don't think MLB is going to allow the franchise to move and especially if it is by anyone named Angelos.
  3. Perhaps. I'm certainly not on anyone's side here. Would Elias had spent more money this offseason on starting pitching if he had the funds? Perhaps. It's hard to really know but Elias has created an environment where the only information that gets out comes from his corporate ready, fan digestible dialog. In the past, I can tell you that I've never heard many good things about either brother. I've talked with John a bit at an event once and he was cordial enough, but certainly guarded. At the end of the day, the Angelos family needs to be out as the controlling owners of this franchise for it ever to be a 1st class organization once again.
  4. Yep, facts don't care about your Baltimore feelings.
  5. lol... I do when you when you publicly denounce an Oriole legend in the one area where everyone he agreed he was the best at. But I don't want to derail this thread. Honestly though, it's more about how I see the Ironbirds run. I took my Autistic son there last year for his birthday and I was shocked at how poorly the place was run. No staff, only like two things open to get something to eat, no dessrts available anywhere. It was awful. But the main thing is the optics of not having an announcer on there MiLB broadcasts. It's absolutely embarrassing to have an Orioles affiliate to not even bring in a local kid in college and give him or her a chance. I'm sure they would do it for pennies just to get the experience. When I watch other teams in the same league have dual announcers with center field cameras and major league baseball like production, you realize how much Cal as owner doesn't care how his team looks. He cares about the bottom line I'm sure. That's not someone I'd want as part of a local ownership group. I want someone to come in and say we're going to be first class in everything we do from treating are employees to the fan experience. Including competing for the top talent to make the team a winner again.
  6. I agree. It's extremely doubtful MLB would approve a move regardless of the state of the city and attendance.
  7. Yeah, I don't there is anyone who has looked at the Angelos family in good light in a long, long time. All this lawsuit has done is taken the veil off this infighting ultra rich family.
  8. Well we haven't heard John Angelos' side of this yet. We know he has interests elsewhere and the Orioles have not spent much outside of Jordan Lyles, the DR facility, and all of their Amateur draft funds. According to the lawsuit, John nixed the sale of the team, so if he really just wanted an out and cash in that would have been a good opportunity. As for how the team has been rebuilt, I'm not saying Elias has been right how he's done the rebuild, but I don't necessarily know if he would have done things differently if he more cash on hand. He seemed to be all in on the Houston model of breaking it all down, collecting good draft picks, then rebuilding. It's taken him a lot longer already to get the team back to decent shape and his 1st round picks have not exactly shown to be amazing at the major league league level yet despite drafting college heavy. I'm not saying your wrong here, just saying that I don't have enough information to draw firm conclusions.
  9. Agreed. The Aberdeen Ironbirds are run on a shoestring budget and their MiLB TV broadcast doesn't even include an announcer. I don't want Cal "Sorry Brooksie" Ripken anywhere involved with the Orioles.
  10. You clearly have to been to Nashville or spent much time in Baltimore of late. Two totally different cities going in opposite directions.
  11. The key thing here is just because John Angelos may want to move the team, he needs MLB approval. I doubt MLB is going to take a team with a stadium like Camden Yards and let it move. Now saying that, Nashville is an up and coming city while Baltimore is currently a crime infested violent city with no clear light at the end of it's tunnel of mismanagement and corruption. If I took my fandom out of it, the God's honest truth is Nashville is probably a better location for the team. They would certainly build a state of the art new stadium probably somewhere close the football stadium just across from the amazing Nashville strip. While it stinks to think of the Orioles in any other city, if it happened, it would kind of be understandable considering the lack of attendance and state of the city (which along with the poor records by the team is a major part of the attendance issues).
  12. It is very concerning when we see lawsuits and infighting amongst ownership. While they have put money into the Dominican complex and Elias has used all of his allotted funds for his drafts, it's pretty clear that cutting salaries at almost all costs has been implemented up until this year when they signed Jordan Lyles. It becomes very concerning this offseason unless this gets solved. The Orioles must, and me must be in the major free agency and trade arena this offseason. If they are not, it will speak volumes.
  13. Pretty big bombshell here. My early take is this is not good for the Orioles to be buyers this offseason. If the team is going to be sold, they don't want to have any big contracts to have to pay off.
  14. I think you have to see what you can get for Santander or Mancini now. Waiting is not going to bring up their value.
  15. Everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. Handley is a plus defender behind the plate, Cumberland is a AAA catcher at best. If Handley can hit .200 at the major league level he'll have value as a backup.
  16. Any post that remembers Glenn Gulliver gets an up vote for me. Saying that, I'm not sure what we know about Servideo. He seems to be able to get on base and hasn't shown much power, but we've also barely seen him. I'd like to see him up in Delmarve for 100 PAs and hopefully he's ready for Aberdeen.
  17. Stowers is slashing .333/.433/.708/1.141 in his last ten days over 30 PAs. He's slashing .302/.384/.698/1.082 in his last 30 days over 99 PAs. He's 24 years old. It's time for him to get major league PAs. He's going to strike out a ton at first, but I'd rather him see major league pitching this year than next.
  18. Orioles radio announcers be like:
  19. I'm sure Russel Martin had a fan club already, but how about you start up the RICHIE Martin fan club instead?
  20. Yeah, his injuries have caused him to miss a lot of time, but the organization has still been very, very cautious with his pitch counts and innings. Not saying they are wrong, but they really need to stretch him out to 100 pitches soon. As for Baumler, slow start and now 3 innings at a time seems like an overly cautious approach IMHO.
  21. Wait, I thought they would not let them in the country? Honestly, this makes a lot more sense than denying them access to the country.
  22. That's the most likely scenario I agree. Still, Elias could surprise. Stowers is not young and looks to be pretty close.
  23. Now way!! There's so much talent on the 40-man that must be kept or risked losing for the future.
  24. With Urias now as the regular third baseman, it makes it harder. When they were carrying Gutierrez it made NO sense to have Owings on the roster. I'm thinking they bring up Martin to replace Owings.
