Nothing happens til it happens, but can we glean anything meaningful from what the insiders say?

”Listening to offers” means nothing. Does anyone NOT listen to offers?

However, that’s probably indicates less interest than a term like…

”Dangling.” What does that mean? Is GM A calling up GM B and saying,” hey, I got this hot guy, and he can be yours! All I need is XX.” Is GM A being coy and hitting that MAAAAAAYBE he’ll listen…?

Regardless, it probably indicates more desire to trade, but maybe not as much as…

“Eager to deal” or “seeking the best matchup” which is where GM A is calling up everyone in the Rolodex and saying,” Have I got a deal for you! AND if you ACT NOW…no? Well, how about……etc etc”

All  those terms indicate at least partially dealing from a position of “I don’t have to” “I’m in no hurry” “if you don’t, someone else will,” and so on. But pity the guys who…

”Are willing to eat most of the contract…” the fools who rush in, and then find it veeeeery expensive to rush back out.. poor San Diego would be less poor if they hadn’t flung all that cash at Mr Hosmer, but they did, and he has been smiling ever since…and they..” are willing to eat most of his contract”

Anyway, where does that leave the Orioles?

We’re listening. Sure we are. Everyone listens except your cat in the backyard who doesn’t want to come in yet.

We are “dangling”…. That means we’re listening a bit more earnestly, but still it’s our call.

Nothing will happen unless it’s very good for the Bmore boys.

So let’s see what kind of horse trader Mike is, and what can he bring home in return for the shiny bauble he is dangling…

I don't think he'll get what he wants or needs for either Means or Mullins.

Besides, why trade Mullins? He's a very good young player, cheap and controllable for 3(?) more years. Return better be phenomenal.

I'd like to have Means, as anchor in the rotation. But he's just what every GM wants, decent SP. He might actually bring that big return that Elias needs. (4 young SP with high spin rates...)

Yes, we definitely have the depth..especially to pick up a guy who is basically a salary dump at this point.

But we could acquire any player we want.  The system is deep and they are able to get anyone they would want..and then some.

#1 or #2 in the 2 major lists.

Fair enough but people here just think you are going to go from some 65ish win team to contending.  It’s such a poor line of thought.

There is likely to be a progression, especially with our ownership team.

It’s not like they are going to open their checkbooks and just spend tons of money on new players.

It’s just not a realistic line of thinking.

They opened their checkbooks for a sh!itload of computers and cameras and analytics gear, ton of new staff in the analytics department, new academy in the D.R., big money (for them...) for IFAs.

All that's not the same scale as big money for FAs, but why do all that if you're not going to follow up?

2022 is the road to contending in 2023

Going from 52 wins in 2021 to 93 winning in 2023 is a large task.   The O’s will want to build in 2022 to get to a lineup and pitching staff that can contend.

The starting staff in 2023 may be Means, Grayson, DL Hall, Tyler Wells, Bradish and Baumann.

    The lineup could be:

    CF Mullins

    2B Urias  (361 OBP)

    DH  Mancini

    C    Adley

    1B Mountcastle

    RF  Santander/ Stowers

    LF Hays

    3B Henderson

    SS  Westburg/Mateo

    JMO

Not sure who that is. Coby Mayo?

They wanted him before and have talked about adding multiple OFers.  It’s essentially trading Anderson for him.  They save money and gain a year of service time.

It’s a fair deal.  Anderson probably has more on field value right now and Santander has more contractual value.  Both had down years in 2021.

The DH coming to the NL could help too.

Is that a done deal or contingent on the new CBA? Would make a huge difference.

Agreed nothing wrong with gauging interest and especially if a team offers up a trade package that values Cedric as a consistent 5+ WAR player.

Gotta listen. Much as I love having him, he's NOT a 5 WAR player, he's not a 30 HR guy. He's a very great CFer but we have others.

    Sell HIGH!

And, thanks to you Frobby for being my "go to read" on this site. Best to everyone for a Safe, Healthy, and Wonderful Holiday Season!

And also thanks to Too Tall and a LOT of others like him! Only 37 posts but he joined in 2005!

Thanks and best wishes to all the dedicated lurkers on this site.

  8. Happy Turkey Day all!

I'm thankful for #1 My family. All that needs to be said about that.

I'm thankful to still have a job despite my stupidity... And 8 stitches.

For the too good for us mere mortals pork and sauerkraut I had last night (and the rest later today.) Just... unbelievable.

For the 4,000 song files I have saved that I have been listening to for hours on random shuffle. MAN I have some eclectic tastes! Few minutes ago I went from Hank Williams - Your Cheatin' Heart to Iggy - I Wanna be your Dog. ? Seriously, music is my escape, my SANITY, My Life.

Thankful for this place too! Thanks Tony and Weams and Frobby and wildcard and Moose and especially Can_of_corn and SOOOOO many others, too many to name!, for making this the wonderful place it is. An Orioles Place, a retreat, a place to rant, a place to commiserate, place to laugh, place to cry.

Thats basically what I would want in return. Maybe a SS. But with Means struggling to pitch an entire season, we may need to move on early and get the best return

And basically that's what Elias always wants, pitching, pitching, pitching, pitching.

  11. I would hate to see Means gone but if we can get 4 half decent prospects ( I know... TINSTAAPP) for Dylan Bundy, what can we get for Means? 4 truly ML-ready guys?

The "problem" is Elias is shrewd and demanding. I doubt anyone is going to put up what he wants in return.

Nope. Not worried about signing some washed up dude to teach the #1 prospect who led his team to the CWS and then every minor league team since. Adley will be just fine. If he needs a coach. Hire one.

I'm guessing the O's take 2 or 3 guys. I'd be cool with a young C if the description is accurate, but I kind of doubt it really is. I love the idea of stashing the guy with TJ surgery, but would really be ok with a lot of profiles from different positions. Arms seem easiest though. Find a live one or two and hope.

As a sophomore. He is special. People seem to expect him to step up and be a leader, the Field General. And that just seems to come with the package. Like automatic. Dare I say so much more than the original Switch-Hitting Jesus. Matt was a leader but like he had try to do that.
