I said that it would only be if Mullins came back. Hays can back him up if necessary. If Mullins gets hurt again, then bring Cowser back. I'm not advocating for the swap, just wouldn't be surprised if it happens.

I suppose it's a matter of sustainability. Are they starters going to maintain a sub-4 ERA the rest of the year? And are the current run producers going to slump while Cowser and Westburg are still adjusting? I'm not saying it SHOULD happen, but I wouldn't be surprised if Elias swaps Kjerstad for Cowser during August.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Elias make a Kjerstad for Cowser swap once Mullins comes back. That's not to say Kjerstad will do any better than Cowser at the plate. But a playoff team needs players who produce and add value.

If the O's were to acquire a dependable starter or two, I'd be on board with Wells or GRod as bullpen pieces. It would strengthen the rotation and the bullpen.

Hence the phrase "healthy and throwing well".

If Means is healthy and throwing well, I'd just put him in the setup role.

Honestly, I'd try Means there too. But Elias needs to acquire at least two relievers to shorten games. Would love it if the Padres decided to sell, maybe pick up Hader.
