  1. This is why, despite numerous reports confirming that the Tampa comments were the sole reason he was reprimanded, I still think there has to be more to this. Might not be *much* more, but KB must've done something previously to incite JA's ire. I know, I keep making the mistake of assuming that JA is a normal, emotionally balanced human, who couldn't possibly have acted so rashly.
  2. A Barstool account now says Brown will be back "in the near future." https://twitter.com/editti22/status/1688636265460027392?s=20 I’ve got an update for Orioles fans… I spoke with a high ranking member of the Orioles and they say Kevin Brown will be back in the near future. You’ll get to hear those golden pipes calling the best team in the AL very soon. Carry on with your day and go Orioles.
  3. No. No sane/reasonable person can, because there's nothing wrong with it.
  4. Henderson at third, Santander DHing, Frazier... in right!
  5. As a big Ravens fan... I like it a lot! Not necessarily for the team to wear, but great for us fans.
  6. And Ubaldo was one of the reasons the Birds claimed that WC spot in 2016. He pitched pretty well in the second half, and went 3-1 in September during our playoff push. He had his moments with the O's... but they were definitely outshone by his overall disappointing performance here.
  7. Good point. John Goodman as "The Babe" was probably the worst offender of what you describe, but as you also note, there are MANY "actors playing athletes (esp baseball players)" that don't come close to pulling it off. Maybe that's why the original "The Longest Yard" remains one of my favorite sports films - Burt Reynolds was clearly a decent athlete, having played at FSU.
  8. Yeah, I was in my late 20s in '93, still a few years from having kids, so The Sandlot wasn't on my radar. Watched it a few years ago and thought it was OK, nothing special. But I can see how kids who grew up with it might love it. I was just born at the wrong time.
  9. I confess I was one of those fans who was ready to lump the Lyles signing in with those other lower-tier FA pitchers we've signed over the past... decade (?), fully prepared to watch him implode, pitch to an ERA over 6, and get dealt at the deadline for nothing of value just to dump his salary. Very happy to have been wrong so far!
  10. Same. Mussina could've signed here for 6 years/$72 mil but took the extra $16 mil from the hated NYers, hoping to win a ring (which thankfully he never did). Had he stayed here, he'd have a nice statue outside Oriole Park and a shiny #35 on Eutaw Street. Instead, he's a "who cares?" figure in NY (never having led them to a title, which for better or worse is the standard up there) and a pariah to many here in Baltimore. And I don't think he cares one bit... so why should we?!? I'm happy to cheer for Rutschman wearing that number.
  11. That stinks. I have tickets for Monday night and was really looking forward to being there when Means ties Vander Meer.
  12. My son and I attended the games yesterday - lots of fun at the Yard! I figured we'd stay for the first game and see how things went for game two. But both games were tight and entertaining so we stuck around for Urias's heroics. The atmosphere is unique but we had a great time, spending nearly 7 hours out in the bleachers. I like that they've tied off the seats that aren't being sold. Since we were in the front row, I was concerned that fans would eventually crowd in around us, but the organization has effectively blocked off those seats to prevent such tomfoolery. It was nice to see the team come back from multi-run deficits in both games. Tough loss in Game One but I'm sure the M's feel the same about Game Two.
  13. So what was the O’s best 60-game stretch last year? I figure a shorter season helps bad teams since any team can get hot over a brief stretch.
  14. “I feel like everybody over there needs a beating.” Wow, how do you really feel, Nick? I'm not sure MLB can continue to try to downplay players' reactions to this as spring training progresses. The Astros are going to be public enemies number one everywhere they go this season, not just with fans but with opposing players. I'm not sure what Manfred should do - I'm just certain that what he has done hasn't been enough. And Markakis clearly feels the same...
  15. Ruiz is at first tonight, so Davis probably won't be getting that elusive first hit tonight. Or maybe he'll hit a game-winning pinch-hit home run in the ninth...!?
  16. Awesome finish! Thanks, Stros! Birds are back alone in first!!!
  17. Another big comeback for the BoSox - four runs in the 9th to beat the Rangers, 8-7. Koji with the save. Rangers bullpen completely imploded...
  18. ChiSox had bases loaded, none out in the 10th and soiled the bed. Pop up, strikeout, strikeout. Ouch. Aaaaaand the BoSox score in the bottom of the 10th to win. That could definitely qualify as an Uplifting Victory, unfortunately.
  19. I was thinking the same thing. Especially if you look at recent game threads! Seems this first-place thing is all smoke-and-mirrors.
  20. Despite the 10-0 drubbing, the O's stay in first, thanks to the Royals.
  21. Miller contributed more in two-plus months than Glenn Davis did in 3 years here, so... No. That trade will never be topped.
  22. Having experienced the Glenn Davis trade, I find it hard to complain about the Miller deal. We got exactly what we wanted out of it - a shutdown reliever who performed precisely how we hoped he would. And we were *this* close to finally get back to the WS, due in no small part to Miller's presence. Even if ERod goes on to become the next Curt Shilling, this deal wasn't nearly as bad as that Davis monstrosity. Then again, that was one of MLB's worst trades ever, so maybe my bar is a little low when it comes to trades...!
  23. That's pretty much where I am, since it ain't my money. I figure we'd get one, maybe two years of Cruz comparable to 2014. Since we're, in my mind at least, trying to Win It All in 2015, Cruz would be an integral piece. Win a WS in '15 or '16, and '17 and '18 become a wash, even if Cruz is hitting at a 2014 Chris Davis pace during those last two seasons. I also appreciate that Duquette is a better GM than I'd be, and he'd like to compete for a WS for the next 5 or 6 years. I say win now, though! Again, not my $$$...
  24. And the Orioles have STILL never played a World Series game without Double Deuce in uniform... And I sure missed him in the booth during the playoffs.
  25. This is the biggest lead (6.5 games) that the O's have enjoyed after 118 games since 1971, when that juggernaut team was up by 10.5 games.
