  1. Orioles will be in Nashville by 2027 so I don't know why anyone here is complaining about an All-Star Game.
  2. Well SG said the timing could be as soon as the end of this season and I don't totally disagree with that for the reasons he mentioned in the post above. If he's brought up this year, I don't believe he's going to play enough to lose his rookie status, but I could see him come up in late August/September for a spell, provided he's done well at Bowie and Norfolk. I don't think that's completely out of the question.
  3. I agree, I think it's a dumb category, too.
  4. This place is going to be a warzone when it comes to Rutschman vs. Basallo.
  5. It’s about time. It’s so good to see.
  6. This is where Tony trolls the board and puts Basallo #1 Looking forward to both writeups, too.
  7. I get that, but it also seems a bit silly. Dylan Cease is an adult, he can read a newspaper and he can probably draw that same conclusion himself. And if he gets traded, I'm sure he doesn't care who initiated coitus.
  8. The last minute Mateo throw in made me laugh, as if that's a sweetner lmao
  9. Well my post from the same writer says he wasn't being shopped. So...stalemate.
  10. I just found the whole "struggled to communicate" thing a bit weird. I don't know how much I believe that, but I don't think Rosenthal reports stuff if he doesn't think the source is credible. He's pretty good at what he does. The Orioles had good results last year, better than expected...and as pointed out, they got really good performances from a number of guys that weren't expected to do much. I guess the way I'm looking at it is that I'm glad that Holt is still with the organization and I'm assuming whoever they hire for the ML pitching coach will be someone that's been thoroughly vetted by Elias, Holt and Hyde and shares philosophies on how things should be done.
  11. First of all, I really don't care what the White Sox do or don't do. They could sign him, they could trade him. It's no sweat off my sack if they sign him to a long term, 9 figure deal. I can see 27 year old guy with, as you've pointed out, a lot of upside being a guy that they want to build a rotation around. Do I 100% agree with that idea? Not really but I also don't think it's out of the question. So hell if I know how they start the rebuild if they don't move Cease and aren't moving Robert. Not my problem. Maybe they have some other ideas.
  12. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2023/11/05/shohei-ohtani-free-agency-bidding-war-begins-gm-meetings/71461163007/ Seems like a coy high school girl at the prom with a flask if you ask me, but what do I know?
  13. Maybe they should, maybe they shouldn't. I can see it both ways, easily.
  14. As @Can_of_corn pointed out, the GM that was shopping him is gone. Looking at this objectively, we don't know if whoever's in charge now will be shopping him or not. If the old GM was there, I'd be more inclined to agree. In regards to 2022, correct.
  15. If the White Sox are going full rebuild, it seems like Cease would be a guy they'd want to keep around, not trade. He's only 27 and while he could net the White Sox some good talent back, you could make an argument that he's a guy for them to build around, too. I'm not saying he should be untouchable for them but I don't view him as part of the problem for the White Sox.
  16. But is he a realistically obtainable target? Or has he just been mentioned on here so many times that we seem to think he is? Wouldn't be the first time that posters on here talk so much about a player that they've convinced themselves into thinking he's a realistic target. Mark Teixiera comes to mind. Fair, there is upside with him, I don't disagree with that. I agree with @HakunaSakatathat his 2022 season looks to be a bit of an outlier but there is good tools and talent to work with to make one think that the Orioles could get him back to that 2022 level.
  17. buh buh buuuuuuummmmmm.... https://theathletic.com/5067797/2023/11/16/cy-young-ballot-snell-strider/ Changes in coaching staffs are common throughout the sport, and Holt at times struggled to communicate with his pitchers, according to major-league sources who spoke on condition of anonymity in exchange for their candor. The Orioles’ goal, according to a source briefed on the club’s thinking, is to provide different messaging to their younger pitchers as they mature. General manager Mike Elias declined comment. Whatever issues existed with Holt and Holmes, they did not seem to show up in the team’s performance. The Orioles’ success stories last season included starters Kyle Bradish and Grayson Rodriguez, both of whom had sub-2.60 ERAs after the All-Star break, and relievers such as Yennier Cano and Danny Coulombe, both of whom joined the club in minor trades. Bradish finished fourth for the AL Cy Young award. “There’s not normally a coach that you have that everyone gets along with or even you get along with all the time. That’s just the nature of working with people,” said right-hander Kyle Gibson, who spent last season with the Orioles and is now a free agent. “But I think everybody on that staff, from the conversations I had, knew everybody had Holty’s best interests in mind. Which I think is really 80 percent of the battle. “It’s easy for coaches at times to mold guys how they want ‘em, have their fingerprints on things. But I don’t necessarily feel Holty was that way. And I think everybody on that staff, whether they got along or didn’t get along or whatever they thought about him, knew he had their best interests in mind. Same thing with Holmey. Mostly everyone liked Holmey. And he was good at what he did.” Gibson, though, believes the organization warrants the benefit of the doubt. “I know just from the things I’ve seen the Orioles do, they plan out everything they do,” he said. “They seem like they are on top of and have their ducks in a row most of the time, if not all of the time. I think that’s what is interesting to me. What do they have planned? For the most part, they haven’t given me any reason to think they don’t have a pretty good thing in mind whenever they make decisions like this.”
  18. HK 4, Mayo 3. I just think Basallo’s position, age and bat make him a small tick above.
