  1. Happy Thanksgiving to all! Even SG!
  2. What was the amount of inbound people calling in to buy tickets vs. cold calls off a list? Or following up with previous ticket plan holders who hadn't purchased in a few years, etc.
  3. Fair and good points. But what was the strategy behind trying to sell to the "I hate Angelos" crowd and the "Is Jay Gibbons the best player they have?" group? I'd imagine there's only so only so much that different plans and different perks can do to combat that.
  4. No. I'm genuinely curious. To use an imperfect comparison, someone who sells Porsches doesn't really have a lot of selling to do. Anyone who steps on the lot already knows what they're looking at. Anyone selling for Microsoft doesn't have to explain what they're selling...anyone on the other end of the phone already has a good idea of what to offer. So from your perspective, what was it like selling for the Orioles when you're selling to customers who already knew about the product? IIRC you were selling at a time when the Orioles were bad, I'm assuming it was a tough sell.
  5. What was it like selling a product that practically everyone who picked up the phone already knew almost all about it?
  6. I am, but not at SG's level. Can't afford that guy.
  7. Imagine thinking you're way better than anyone works a minimum wage job and they're beneath you, almost to the point that you think of their intellect as non-human.
  8. Exciting to see the international efforts starting to pay off.
  9. Happy for him, he had some really good starts for us last year and seemed to be a great teammate. I liked him a lot and I hope he has a great season in St. Louis.
  10. Poll needs to be multiple choice. Anyway, Sheffield, Helton, Mauer, Ramirez, A-Rod, Beltre. I can see the arguments for Andruw Jones and Beltran, too. I think Jones takes a hit cause everything he did after age 30 was injury riddled and not as good. But it's hard to overlook 10 Gold Gloves in centerfield. Beltran was a great power/speed guy. I never viewed him as a Hall of Famer while he was playing, though.
  11. Isn’t this where someone comes in to remind us what a joke the Orioles hall of fame is because some certain players are in there?
  12. They do. I thought I did see somewhere on here that said that his fastball velocity is down, too, though.
  13. The more I think about it and the more I've read the arguments in this thread, the more I'd come around to it. Don't get me wrong, I don't think Bieber is necessarily a great pickup but I also don't think Santander is a long term piece for here, like I said. I don't think he's a core player, as much as I appreciate him. Bieber could be a good guy for a change of scenery and good coaching and good analytics.
  14. He's had a good career, even great. But at that age you have to wonder if he's reached the end of the line, or approaching it quickly.
  15. I don't think Lance Lynn was ever bandied about on here as someone we should target. But that's one less one year deal out there for the inevitable Kyle Gibson replacement.
  16. I would be apathetically ambivalent on this deal. I like Santander, but I don't recognize him as a core piece of this team in 3-4 years from now. Bieber's K rate has dwindled, his WHIP has crept up. The one thing I like about him though is that his ERA is always close to his FIP. And he was at 3.80 last year, we could have used that. It would also depend if Bieber was our only rotation add for the offseason, too.
  17. Man, they don't ease into the week and give some nice stats columns on a Monday. This looks brutal today.
  18. Probably would be a good move for him.
  19. This came up on my feed awhile back. It is absolutely fantastic. I don't have fond memories of Will Clark when he was on the Orioles but looking back at his stats I'm not sure why that is. He was a lot better than I remember him being. I suppose I felt that way because he seemed to be on the DL for a good chunk of time and the '99 Orioles weren't good...I think those two go hand in hand. And then I remember him being traded to STL and going on an absolute TEAR and wondering why he wasn't that good with the Orioles. But yeah, this story is a direct 180 from what you'd think of Cal and it's great.
  20. That’s right. One should be so lucky.
  21. That’s a low bar to hurdle. Pretty sure you and I combined for a better WAR than Chris Davis did in the last couple of years of that contract.
