  1. Oh my God. A thread dedicated to a fun topic delves into Pickles and CoC’s never ending attempts at semantics one upmanship, pettiness and school marm-ery. Adding CoC’s constant slurping of Elly De La Cruz and it’s like their Greatest Hits album. Anyway, I think Santander would have a blast leading the Kangaroo Court.
  2. Seeing people all over Buster in the comments section is *chef’s kiss*
  3. Impossible! I’ve read on here that Hyde is a terrible manager!
  4. .750 isn't bad. It's not great...but it's not awful. That is way better than anything that Mateo is bringing to the batter's box right now. Frazier has shown that he can occasionally get into one and hit it out of the park. Here's where I think you went wrong with your argument about Mateo off the bench vs. Frazier; when I hear "off the bench" (and I don't think I'm alone here) I automatically think pinch hitting. And if that's the case, I do not want Mateo pinch hitting over anyone currently on the squad. Unless (and even then, this isn't 100%) he's got some amazing numbers against a certain pitcher in 20 at bats or something. You can't argue for Mateo hitting over anyone else on the roster and expect to be taken seriously. But you also can't argue for Mateo's defense anymore. He's just not been good, he's not near what he was last year. Sure, when it comes to range he's got better range than Frazier, I won't argue otherwise. If you've been watching the games over the past few weeks, you've seen Mateo make some pretty bad errors. Errors that I don't think he would have made last year. It looks like he needs to be out there every day and get constant playing time if he's going to be any kind of asset with the glove but due to his noodle for a bat that's not a reality. So we're left with the speed and that's nice. But if he can't hit, he's not getting on base. He's certainly not a threat to draw a walk. Then it really comes down to him being used as a pinch runner. Is there room on a postseason roster for a guy who's a speed demon pinch runner? I don't know, I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on the makeup of a postseason roster. I will say there isn't a guy on the team that I'd want pinch running over Mateo. He can probably score from first depending on where the ball is hit, he can definitely score from 2nd. He's a threat to steal for sure. But are you really going to carry him on the postseason roster because he might be able to steal a base? There's some value there I suppose but again, it depends on what you're looking for in the postseason.
  5. Maybe it's just me, but I think comparing the strategy of how to build a football team compared to how to build a baseball team is a bit silly.
  6. Ooops, I didn't see this thread. Please feel free to merge with mine.
  7. I got to see most of the '83 team reunion before tonight's game. Got to see them introduce Palmer and then I had to take on some parenting responsibilities for a little bit. It was great to see those players be introduced. I'm too young to remember that team (I had just turned two) but I still have a lot of respect and admiration for those guys. If you're a diehard fan of this team like we all are, it doesn't matter how old you are...you appreciate them and love the stories about how Tippy picked off 3 guys in one inning with Sakata behind home plate....what Tito Landrum means, etc. But there was one guy that wasn't there and I was hoping he would be. And I don't think we've heard from this one guy since he stopped doing color commentary on HTS back in the late 90s...and that man is John Lowenstein. Brother Low had a pretty good '83 campaign: .281/.374/.481 for an .855 OPS and a 136 OPS+. 15 homers and 60 RBI. I just felt that it would have made sense that when Roenicke was introduced that Lowenstein would have been introduced, too. He's getting up there in years, 76 years old. It's my hope that one day he gets back to Camden Yards and has one more day in the sun.
  8. I think the chemistry argument cuts both ways. I mean, we all played Little League with a kid who was an automatic out. I don't think the idea of "Aw, ****, look who's up with two outs and is about to kill our rally," leaves someone's mind just because they're in the Majors. But by all accounts, he's a great guy. I just think SigBot and Elias think there's something they can tap into to fix him. There's no other logical explanation I can think of.
  9. I'm kind of curious to see him out there, only because I want to see him hit top speed to take away something in the gap. But I'm not THAT curious because of how bad he is at the plate. They obviously think there's something in him that's worth saving. We'll never know the details but I'd love to find out...they're bending over backwards to keep him.
  10. 500+ million. 250 million for a great hitter, 250 million for a great pitcher. Roll it all up into one. Certainly there's concern with what would happen if he were to get hurt but he looks like he takes great care of himself. He's a once in a lifetime player...only guy like that in baseball history. He might spark off a two-way player revolution of sorts but it'll probably be awhile before we see anyone do it as good or better. Someone will give him that money and not have to think very hard to do it. I bet there are teams that have been waiting 2+ years to figure out how to afford him and get themselves in a position to do so.
  11. At first glance, I think Ramirez got lucky with that swing connecting with Anderson. But the way Anderson put his dukes up, he looked like he's had some formal training.

  13. If anyone posts a certain first baseman, I say they should be banned.
  14. Me too. I love the old school Oriole Bird swinging the bat. That and the angry bird are my favorite logos.
  15. I dunno if it’s for tonight only, but keep the 40th anniversary patches.
  16. There are a few players in the game who, when you look at them, you just know they exist to do probably one thing only. Vogelbach is one of those guys.
  17. Just took the dog out so she could take a squirt, came back to see Alonso on 2nd with Cano on the mound and just rolled my eyes.
