Baltimore Orioles Record: 31-16 Last Power Ranking: 6 It would’ve been cool to see Jorge Mateo continue his meteoric rise this month, but in reality, the Orioles weren’t counting on guys like Mateo in 2023. They were expecting an immediate impact from their top prospects like Gunnar Henderson and Grayson Rodriguez. Instead, it’s been a rough transition for those two, even as the surging Orioles have accumulated the second-best record in baseball. Henderson is batting .192 with a .685 OPS in everyday playing time, and Rodriguez has a 6.21 ERA through eight starts. There are silver linings, to be sure. Henderson is getting on base at a good clip. Rodriguez now has more solid starts than bad, with a few blowups skewing the ERA. But they’ve also looked a lot like, well, rookies. And if the Orioles are to do better than stay in the playoff conversation, if they’re going to chase down the Rays, it’ll likely be because Henderson and Rodriguez got a firm foothold and found their groove. — SN

Here's hoping it starts tomorrow against the Yankees. One thing I will say...I don't really like his body language. Strikes out in a key moment, slams a helmet, slams a bat. And I get it, he's young, maybe that stuff goes away over time. But it's not always a good look for him.

I know you’re joking but WAR doesn’t do everything to describe the value he brings. Intangibles matter for sure and to Tony’s point I believe that’s the case here.

True, the Dodgers aren’t very different than their regulars and the Braves didn’t make a huge departure from their 70s throwbacks. But in that vein, I think the creativity for ours is lacking here, just from a different perspective. I think the Rangers jerseys are easily the worst.

Good news is that I guess more teams have yet to be revealed, although it'd be hard to make much worse than what we have. I thought all the teams had them out by now and we were one of the last two or three to debut.

You can't clip these wings, but you can also make a pretty boring jersey overall. Like I said, it's not as bad as I thought it'd be once you see it on the players. It's not as bad as the initial leak lead me to believe, but it's still really underwhelming. The more I read these little design inspirations, the sillier it becomes. I don't care where the font came from or what it was inspired by, BALTIMORE splashed across a black jersey with some speckles is still boring no matter how you cut it. It's like the City Connect team at Nike was like "Whew...well, we're at the end. We've designed jerseys and hats for almost all the major league teams and the last ones are for...oh, the Orioles? Let's just get this over with, no one's gonna care. Finish line is in sight, let's go!" and then just came up with the most boring thing they could.

This is stupid. "You can't see what you're not looking for." So let's remind everyone that Baltimore has a drab reputation by creating a drab uniform with some vibrant colors underneath that no one's really going to see.

"You can't clip these wings" is pretty dumb, IMO. I agree that the jerseys look better on the players rather than the leaks that we saw a couple weeks ago. But to just plaster BALTIMORE in block letters across the front is dumb and unoriginal. It should have been something like "Charm City" or something else that ties into Baltimore. The hat is alright.

You’re part of the hilarity too. Acting like Frazier is Joe Morgan or something. He’s not a great player. He’s on a bit of a heater right now and it couldn’t have come at a better time. He’s alright and he’s an upgrade over Odor (which isn’t saying much).

You’re looking at it from a WAR perspective which is fine. But Adley plays a tougher position and literally can’t get a full day off. If he’s not behind the plate, he’s DHing. And if he’s on the bench, he’s inevitably coming in to pinch hit at some point either for whoever’s DHing or McCann, and then he’s gotta catch the rest of the game. No one on the team is demanded more from.

Nooooooo way! I thought all the Hyde bashing around here was justified. Like , if we had a competent manager we’d be ahead of the Rays but it’s Hyde being buddy-buddy with his players that’s holding this team back. Or so I’ve been told.

Didn’t see a sweep headed into this series but that was awesome. Had to run out after the 7th inning so I missed the fireworks today but still extremely gratifying.
