  1. Kevin Brown can put some ice down his pants then.
  2. He's an idiot if he thinks they went into 2018 trying to tank.
  3. It's possible, but he was a sharp, sharp legal mind for a very long time. I can see why you'd say that but IMO the brain can sometimes deteriorate due to lack of action. I'm not sure if Angelos is sitting around watching Price is Right or still advising on legal matters. No one really seems to know. At his age with his wealth, it's a privilege not to have to deal with the public, being in control of their faculties or not. One should be so lucky.
  4. He had a lot of great moments here. When he was swinging well, it really was thrilling to watch. He also did get a lot of flak for what he was apparently doing or not doing in the offseason. But overall, I always thought that he was a good dude. Part of what makes a great athlete great is that they have 100% confidence in their skills. This is a positive, it's also a negative. In his particular case, I believe he always felt that he wasn't far off from getting back on track. That attitude is what kept him going for this long. By all accounts his teammates really liked him. I hope he finds a fulfilling life in retirement.
  5. I see where you're coming from. I kind of agree. Part of me thinks that the sons have a bit of autonomy...maybe they do have the autonomy to hire a guy like Elias, finally get into the international market, the tech, etc. But I wouldn't be the least surprised if the sons have to go to PA in order to open up the purse strings on signing a free agent, etc. Again, I've got no evidence for this but I wouldn't be surprised.
  6. I agree. As far as I'm concerned, it's the same ownership. I don't think anyone thinks the Steelers have changed ownership over the years. It's always been the Rooney family. Just because the sons are supposedly making the calls doesn't mean the philosophies have changed.
  7. Eh, not really. We've had it pretty good. As annoyed as I was with Brown last night and as annoying as he can be when he tries too hard to be witty, he's still good. In regards to other team's announcers, you don't have to go very far on your tv set to listen to Boring Bob Carpenter and FP Santangelo. Easily the worst I've heard.
  8. It also gives you manufactured fuel for your fire to rage every day
  9. I think it'd be cool and it'd be fun, but you know as much as I do that Price, Stroman and Bryant absolutely have no shot of coming here. I'd take any of the three, to be honest.
  10. Anyway, I agree that the pitching has been the absolute worst part of the year. IMO, Kremer is the biggest disappointment. I had low expectations for Akin but I didn't expect him to absolutely **** the bed like he has. Hays, Santander, Hunter Harvey, etc. These guys are always hurt and you can't get mad at water for being wet. I wouldn't call them disappointments, it's just expected at this point. Kjerstad's situation is just sad more than anything.
  11. I turned it off and started watching the Giants (new adopted team, visited my uncle out there last week who's a big fan so it's not completely random...and in the vein of announcers, it's great to hear Jon Miller, an added bonus). But yeah, he couldn't STFU about Cabrera playing tomorrow in the later innings of tonight's game too so it wasn't a surprise. I could maybe, MAYBE understand hyping it if Cabrera was sitting on homer #600 or #700. Those numbers are still rarified air and maybe worth a little bit of hype.
  12. Mountcastle's season has had some ups and downs. With as slowly as he started, it's good to see that he could hit those numbers if he finishes strong. I was pleasantly surprised by his walk rate last year when he came up, it looked like his patience at the plate improved. IIRC, that hasn't continued to improve, it looks like its regressed. I don't particularly care about the defense as he was never advertised as a particularly good defender, although I think he could be an adequate first baseman. His season isn't an outright disappointment in the way the pitchers have been but I wouldn't put it in the positive column necessarily, he's somewhere in between. On one hand, it's nice to see that he's fought back from a terrible start...on the other, he's not really improved his hitting all that much.
  13. It was f'ing obnoxious, I'm pretty sure he mentioned it every half inning. I've come around on Kevin Brown a little bit, even though sometimes he sounds like Joe Buck, sometimes his cadence sounds the same. I used to not like him but now I think he's pretty decent. No one will touch Thorne but I guess this is as good as we're going to get for a little while. He's certainly better than Garceau, but that's a low bar to hurdle. But tonight was just awful.
  14. JFC, Kevin Brown tonight on his knees for Miguel Cabrera and the possibility of him hitting #500. Practically rooting for him to do it. I get it, it's a cool piece of history and it'd be cool to call it. But Kevin, if you're reading this, it's gonna be the Tigers call that gets played over and over, not yours homie.
  15. Looking forward to seeing Wells return. Not really excited about Mr. Glass and Time-bomb Tanner. Those guys have a lot of upside but they're exasperating.
  16. I can see that, but if that's the case then he shouldn't have started talks with him at all. It is bias and it's a stupid one but Angelos is probably that guy.
  17. And yeah, @SteveA's post is a masterpiece. Well done. Though I will say, a guy like Taijuan Walker (who I wanted this offseason) would have been more than a cosmetic upgrade.
  18. I think Davis had something to do with Manny, in some shape or form. There's the basic idea that the Davis money is money that could have gone to Manny instead. Certainly possible. As you mentioned, they were 10 million apart on Manny. If they don't give Davis that money, it could have gone to Manny. As you mentioned, they might have tried to sign Manny before the Davis deal happened and I think that's fairly likely. But if the idea that they tried to sign Manny before signing Davis is correct, IMO it's also likely that Manny took one look at that contract and said "If you're going to give Davis THAT contract, my price just went up. He's a first baseman, average defender, not an all around hitter. I'm a platinum/gold glove 3rd baseman, all around hitter and an overall better player. I'm worth twice that contract and if they don't give it to me, I'll get it in free agency." I think the first scenario is possible, I think the second scenario is almost more likely. By giving Davis that contract they inadvertently gave Manny an idea of what he should be able to command and what he could get in free agency. In giving Davis that contract they pretty much assured themselves that Manny wouldn't be here long term.
  19. Well you must be scratching your scalp raw after being an Orioles fan for the past 25 years. I'm fine with keep giving him chances as every other young starting pitcher we've brought up this year has been awful. It's not like there are other amazing options out there. I'm not saying we should DFA him, that would be a bit silly, however I don't see how he's part of the future.
  20. C'mon, stop trying to be the smartest guy in the room. Dude's terrible.
  21. 2001 Mariners were pretty awesome though. So maybe there's good things ahead. Not surprising that the Orioles would be tying a bad record.
  22. It was money they could have given Manny. I'm not sure if they would have given it to Manny as I'm not sure if they were smart enough to do that. But it is a possibility.
