  1. Plus they’ll need to make a roster move. My guess is we’ll see either Baumann or DL Hall since Wells pitched last night.
  2. That’s a big X factor. The thing with MASN is that its future is very murky as far as profitability and rights fees (as it is for all RSNs). Of course, this will affect all MLB, NBA, and NHL teams; so it’s not like the O’s are the only MLB team affected by it.
  3. Way too early and some of this is probably wishful thinking but here we go: If Wild Card: SP: Bradish, Rodriguez, Means RP: Bautista, Cano, Webb, Coulombe, Wells, Perez, Irvin, Hall, Baumann If Division Series: SP: Bradish, Rodriguez, Means, Kremer RP: Bautista, Cano, Webb, Coulombe, Wells, Perez, Irvin, Hall I’m probably putting too much hope in Means being one of the top 3 pitchers but Irvin and Kremer make me nervous and Gibson and Flaherty have not looked good. I’m also probably putting too much hope in Hall and Wells being dependable late inning options.
  4. I highly doubt it is 6 years. It will either be 4 (maybe 5) or far more than 6. I can’t imagine them letting him hit free agency with only a comp pick in return.
  5. I do wonder if there is a bit of strategy, especially with bullpen usage, to be more willing to push against AL teams in contention. Bautista’s four two-inning outings have all come against AL teams in the playoff chase. After being used pretty liberally against the Rays he wasn’t available in Philly. I know there are examples of him not being available against AL contenders too but that’s usually been after he’s already been pushed in that series.
  6. Andrew Marchand, sports media reporter for the NY Post, just mentioned on his podcast that Kevin Brown has one more year on his contract. Obviously doesn’t guarantee he’s back next year.
  7. I think this is why Angelos is so desperate to build this entertainment district. He needs the cash (or collateral on which to borrow) to pay the inheritance tax. I don’t know how they can afford the tax without liquidating their largest asset (the Orioles).
  8. Yeah, but Manfred is trying to end those regional tv territories and end the ridiculous blackout rules. So TV rights for teams located hours away will have no impact on expansion.
  9. Well he’s 33 with a kid on the way. Quitting his job or forcing the O’s to fire him might look tough and principled, but it puts his family and career in short-term (and perhaps long-term) peril. And I doubt he’d sleep well in that situation. Sometimes you have to take a short-term loss for a long-term win. If I’m Brown I have my agent looking at new opportunities while serving out my contract. I know he’s not your cup of tea but he’s very well-respected. He has a very bright future ahead of him with more high-profile national events likely on the horizon. And once that happens JA will look the fool like his dad did with Jon Miller.
  10. Yeah, he's talented and will become more expensive.
  11. Agree that unnecessary extra rules is a sign of bad leadership. Having front-facing employees wear branded merchandise is incredibly useful, from building your brand to selling said merchandise to strengthening a partnership with a vendor (i.e. Nike). As someone else stated, that's why NFL coaches are now required to wear team-branded gear.
  12. Yes, I think it will be Arnold with another young (i.e. cheap) announcer coming into the fold. Brown will go somewhere else unfortunately.
  13. Kevin Brown and it’s not close. Geoff Arnold is fine and I don’t mind Hollander on radio. Garceau and Newman should only do pre- and post-. Pre-2020 Thorne was great but I’d still take Brown over him. Hunter was awful - just really insulting to my intelligence. Of course if we really go back, Jon Miller and Chuck Thompson are hall-of-famers.
  14. This is probably what ticks me off the most - this season will be it for KB and the Orioles. I’m 52 and remember thinking a couple of weeks ago - Kevin Brown very well could call O’s games the rest of my life. Ha, how naive of me! Words can’t even express how disappointed I am in John. The way he has allowed Elias run baseball ops is the opposite of his father. His incredible insecurity, false promises, and short-temper scream of his father.
  15. Given the prices I think they did a nice job. Would’ve liked another reliever but getting Fuji early was smart. If they can get through the next couple of weeks their bullpen options will hopefully expand with Hall, Wells, Voth, Givens, and Means. If just one or two of those guys pop it would help a ton.
  16. I would envision seats being removed as part of the renovation to create more social spaces. Personally I can’t stand the seats in the LF upper deck - you feel like you’re in a different zip code - and wouldn’t have a problem if they removed them. The economic model of sports has changed so much in the past 30 years - not to mention the quality of the TV viewing experience - that the value of those seats is not what it once was.
  17. I think they’re waiting for the deadline. If they move Ortiz in a deal they’ll want Mateo for depth. Otherwise I can’t see them keeping him over Ortiz any longer.
  18. Unless an unexpected trade happens I think it’s gotta be Mountcastle being optioned. I just can’t see them giving away depth (Mateo, Frazier) when an option is available. I’ll also be interested to see what they do with Grayson’s next start. Wouldn’t mind a shorter start to save some innings but get him some work. Then bring him up after the break.
  19. He did have a good career and was probably underrated as a prospect. He was a terrific defender. But the jump in power numbers while playing in the steroid era makes it difficult for me to judge just how good he really was.
  20. Yes, hopefully this is his minor league swan song. I would assume Irvin goes down or to the pen but if Kremer gets lit up again it could get interesting.
  21. Don’t have a point of reference, but I believe Weaver was opposed to trading DeCinces because he thought Cal could play shortstop. They never did find a long-term 3B to pair with Cal. I always wondered if the decline of the mid-80’s would’ve been avoided had they kept DeCinces and Dennis Martinez and focused on improving the OF defense.
  22. John doesn’t have a great track record of delivering on his self-proclaimed timelines but I expect it to happen at some point this year. The state is promising the O’s more money to keep them than Nevada is to attract the A’s.
  23. 2014 - Arrieta beat Gausman in the first game of a Cubs 3-game sweep. But fortunately it was just a blip - the O’s went home and won 9 of 11.
  24. Likely no Cano or Bautista tonight so need some length from Irvin and some runs from the offense.
