Westburg deserves to be promoted, but nowhere to play in the IF. Maybe the same next year if Mateo and Urias stay.

He has to be next man up.   I fully anticipate him getting 150-200 ABs for the Os this year (or at least I did going into the season).

So, these guys are the only ones who could do that?  The guys in the minors are mental midgets? No one else is capable of blending in?

    Just doesn’t make sense.

I didn’t say that.  I said that is a very important data point that goes into all their decisions.  It’s also something that isn’t static and that the guys in the minors are continuing to work and train on.

Also explains how a guy who goes I drafted and unrecruited can go on to have a fantastic career.

I would be curious to see someone's report on how he looks in the outfield/RF.

I havnt see him challenged yet.  Only routine plays which he’s handled without any problem.

There have been a lot of conflicting reports on Westburg's arm strength in the past.   I watched last night's game and he played SS.   On one play he went into the hole and put everything into the throw and it had plenty of zip.   I'd say he's at least average from SS.

Strength is avg.  accuracy is what needs more consistency.  IMO it’s mostly due to his footwork, which can be very challenging when play different positions (different attack/ throwing angles for each IF position).

Ok..have zero idea what this has to do with anything but whatever.

You have made that abundantly clear.

It has everything  to do with the guys that they chose & choose  to be on their roster.

Cowser is still a bit of an enigma to me.   His numbers are great and yet he still has a game like Wednesday, where he goes 0-5 with 4 strikeouts.

Baseball is hard.  I’m  impressed by how he did the day after he went 0/5 with 4 ks.  Incredibly impressive.

You mean the human element about how all of these rookies/young players are super close? The chemistry is probably better than it is now. They are easily having as much, if not more, fun than they are having now.

No.  Mental make-up, drive, focus, ability to handle failure, behavior in group training environment, resilience, & goal orientation.

Well, there is more to it than this though. They also should have upgraded the pitching staff more.

The thing is, everyone wants to look at the SSS of the beginning of the year or they want to look at one move in a vacuum.

All of it is connected. I was in favor of Eovaldi. If he gets off to a similar start here as he has in Texas, that is more pressure off of the young kids who could have been up.

And btw, there was still plenty of bet depth if you get rid of those guys.

I also was in favor of trading Mullins. What kind of pitching help does he bring in?  How much better off are we there or are we worse off?

If you look at things only as they are now and just take 2 of the vets out and replace them With the rookies, we agree that it could make things tougher.

But if you upgrade the worst parts of your team (ie OF defense and starting pitching), maybe things are still in good shape.

It’s a lot of ifs, I agree…but the ultimate goal is to have the best team possible by the end of the year and be in the playoffs.

You don’t automatically make the playoffs because you have a really good record on May 12.

How you built the entire team is what is key.

Agree 💯- you discount the human element.  You are also overvaluing things they couldn’t care less about.    It seems  they knocked it out of the park with the team they assembled.  Time will tell.

Westburg has a hard path because Gunnar, Mateo, Urias, and Ortiz, are not only good defenders, but they’re GG/Elite defenders, and they do that at multiple positions. So that’s already 4 guys for 3 spots.

There are currently ABs that have gone to Vavra/Stowers/O’Hearn this year that those guys haven’t done much. That is where Westburg can impact this team this year.

Even Cowser when ready with the bat, projects to be a premium defender in COF.

Overall, I do think there are currently “shuttle” ABs available for Westburg, but nothing more than 2-3 times a week. We’ll see if Westburg gets the call mid next week when we run into some LH SP.

that would make my day and I’d get tix to go see him play.  I love the Tides but am getting tired of seeing Jordan in Green.  Give the man his chance!  That said - like Gunnar, Adley, and eventually Cowser I think when they bring him up he will be here to stay and they won’t do the shuffle thing.  But what do I know 🤷‍♂️

I agree its interesting they've pitched him 80-100 a lot, even on his messy nights, and opted for him on the shorter rest coming off the doubleheader.

He's at 636 pitches through 7 turns, 52% of last year's 1207 already.    Its a known known Verducci Rule is hokum and I am certain the acute/chronic wear and tear monitoring is more granular.     He's a science experiment you get one iteration of.      2012 Strasburg the Nationals choice was not to play games with hot-cold-hot even though they were a playoff team - his year ended September 7th.

The off days over the next 20-30 calendar days do come like clockwork after each chunk of 9-10 games so the 3 games in 11 days scenario won't occur again soon.

I think the league and the Orioles are finally getting away from a # of pitches or a # of innings.  I’m fairly confident they are looking at their workload over the last 2 months, the last 2 weeks, the last few days, and how the P looks in his outing.   It’s counter-intuitive but a long break of a week or 2 weeks off is actually worse than continuing with your regular training.  What we don’t see and know is how they are feeling when they aren’t pitching & what that workload looks like and how that plays in to their availability on game day. They may have a super hard recovery week & not be prepped for a long outing and we have no idea.

Not taking Kremer out either after his last two starts. So that leaves Wells and Bradish. Both of whom would see likely stuff boost in the pen. It’s a good problem to have and will be fascinating to see how it all plays out. Hopefully no injuries and it’s strictly performance based.

Wonder if they start to “match up” like they are doing with their hitter shuffle between AAA and MLB.

The Tigers are closer to 1st place than the Orioles are right now so I wouldn't think he's available.

Omg the central is bad.  Has a last place team in one division ever finished with a better record than the best team in one of the other two divisions?  Currently that’s the case - wild

I think Twins will win the division by a wide margin.

  13. Prieto looks like a fantastic trade chip.  Solid high floor guy to go along with someone with more upside.

Encarnacion 109.5 HR was smoked.  Stinks they didn’t get the distance.  Still looks like these #s are a work in progress. I think they confused some of his change ups.  He through a fin but didn’t seem like that many.  Do they determine pitch by shape or ball spin?

I think it overly optimistic to not expect them to lose as many arms as they gain.

Yes, that’s true.  I’m assuming no significant injuries.  I think for a week or two here and there Irvin, Rom, Zimmerman can pick up some of the work load.  But a season ending injury to any of the SP would be significant.

  16. I think they are fine to go through the season and make a WC.  I think they need to upgrade for the playoffs.  The staff overall will be much improved in second half when we have Tate, Givens, Hall, +trade in the mix.  I think we are in a good spot but need to continue to improve.

If it's a fastball it's a strike.  If it's a changeup then it dies 3/4 of the way to home plate.  Apparently hitters can't really tell the difference between the two because he hides his changeup so well.

Correct.  But I’m wondering if they just flat out stop swinging.  It’s pretty clear they have issues identifying the pitch.  He’s throwing the FB for a strike but all his off speed stuff is landing outside of the zone and is getting whiffs

Cowser got out of Aberdeen after 63 games of .795 OPS.

Westburg got out of Aberdeen after 62 games of .858 OPS.

Henderson got out of Aberdeen after 65 games of .775 OPS.

Mayo got out of Aberdeen after 68 games of .821 OPS.

Norby got out of Aberdeen after 49 games of .736 OPS (he missed a couple of weeks with an injury while there.

Stowers got out of Aberdeen after 36 games of .900 OPS.

Prieto got out of Aberdeen after 25 games of 1.000 OPS.

Holliday now has 12 games of .978 OPS. He’s younger than any of the players listed above, so I think the O’s will resist the temptation to move him as fast as, say, Stowers or Prieto, even if he continues to perform comparably to them, as he’s done to date.  But I don’t see how they can justify keeping him there more than about two months from when he got to Aberdeen, if he continues to outperform most of the other players listed above.  So, I’m guessing he moves up no later than July 4, unless he nosedives from here, which seems unlikely.

That was right around the date I had circled, 7/1, assuming he stays hot.  It’s really a marvel to see how comfortable he is and the success he’s having.

40k might just be a thing of the past.  A lot of teams are electing to remodel their upper decks to incorporate more recreational/drinking areas.

Las Vegas is planning for a 30k seat stadium
