Irvin was a tough luck loser tonight, as the Durham staff somehow managed to scatter 13 base runners and yield only one unearned run — but he had a very promising outing. He went 7 innings with 4 Ks and 0 BBs, and he allowed only 4 hits on the night (though one was a homer).

This comes on the heels of his previous strong start against Charlotte. Combined in those two starts, he’s allowed only 3 ERs in 13 IP (2.08 ERA) with 9 Ks against only 1 BB. He’s given up a HR in each outing, but he is finally starting to look a lot more like the good command/control pitcher they thought they had traded for.

He looked great Tonight.  First 4ip went by really fast.

Westburg for both. And if the organization doesn't trust Westburg in RF, he's the best option the organization has at 2B against LHP (and I believe overall). I'd take Ortiz over Frazier both against LHP and overall as well.

Norby played RF in Norfolk tonight.

So it keeps opening up? How is this going to heal without actual rest?

Just IL him and bring up Cowser or Westburg or Ortiz.

Why are we having this series, entering a tough part of the schedule with one less option on the bench and a roster spot to a light hitting third catcher?

    Just awful.

What a wuss.  If he played hockey, he’d just cut it off and put it out back on after the season.

Interesting tidbit- Both starting pitchers tonight are Jewish.  I wonder when the last time there was an MLB game where both starters were Jewish?  I wonder if that's ever happened before?

Dude, that's so true because my whole family gets hounded by Atlanta fans there every time we go. Me and my brother were just talking about this the other day. In 2005 I almost got into a fight when as soon as my family stepped out of the car in the parking lot, the Braves fans started shouting nasty slurs at us. It was a horrible experience.

I’ve actually had the same experience there.  Was completely caught off guard.  Getting heckled by a clown in khaki shorts, top siders/no socks, a tucked in striped polo, a belt with fish on it, a funny $10 haircut  and shades with croakies was NOT something I was expecting.

The Cubs are calling up AAA prospect Matt Mervis today.  I have a bit of interest in him, because he’s local to my area and his parents are very good friends with one of my former law partners.  Really interesting story, he was considered more of a pitcher in college but got hurt and switched to 1B.  He went undrafted in both 2019 and the shortened 2020 draft, but was signed as an undrafted free agent. He didn’t do much in 2021 but just exploded in 2022, hitting 36 homers across three levels of the minors.  The Cubs blocked him by signing Hosmer and Trey Mancini this winter, but he’s continued to rake and now he’s up.  I’m excited for the kid.

The flip side of this is that Hosmer (.657) and Trey (.698) have been pretty bad.  Trey’s on a two year deal so he’s probably not going anywhere.  Hosmer is getting the minimum, so he’s expendable.

GTown Prep kid.  Saw him play a couple times in HS. Chris Rodriguez has done a fantastic job of turning GTP into the best program in the DMV.  I wish Mervis all the luck in the world.  It’s fun to pull for the local kids.

Ha, I spend an hour last night researching and analyzing the statcast information on Rom's stuff and researching pitchers with a similar fastball, provide the data with charts, and get one react and the follow on comments are talking about wins in the minors and Frobby's feelings on rooting for underdogs (which got as many reacts as mine.) My mistake. I must be doing this wrong! lol

Let me try this then. Rom wins a lot of games and is an underdog guy! I love him and want him to do good!

Sweet, just saved myself hours of research over the rest of his stuff and can move on.

Tony, you are a stud.  Never forget that. You out OPS everyone.  Lotta posters have high OBP but your SLG can’t be touched!

and for the record when you posted those charts I didn’t have any rep left to give that day :)

Before leaving the subject of Kansas City, I want to say that I’m really impressed by what I see in Bobby Witt.  You can just tell he’s a kid who’s going to mature into a really good player.  He’s got all the tools.

I’m also a big fan of Vinnie Pasquantino.  I’d never heard of him before this series, but watching him, he really covers the entire plate, plus he’s got some pop.  I think it was @Just Regular who comped him to Billy Butler, and that fits pretty well, even though Pasquantino is a lefty.

Witt is going to be good.  He's fun to watch.  Was not stoked when he came up as tying run in the 9th yesterday.

I think because of their defensive responsibilities they will be moved more deliberately than an IF/OF prospect would.  Of course, I have no idea what the Orioles’ evaluators think about their defensive skills or their ability to move up fast while making the necessary progress on the defensive end.  I’m just giving my uninformed opinion.

Thanks, I value your opinion which is why I asked.  I'm not very well versed on how they move guys up or what they look for before promotions (short of the offensive requirements to handling pitching).  I know they like to get ~200 ABs.  Was hoping they could get their 200 in Aberdeen and be in Bowie at end of year, if all things went as well as possible.
