I would bring Povich or McDermott up and see if they can be an impact arm.  Why trade, if they can get some experience and also maybe do the job?

I don’t think we see McDermott this year.  His control is a major hurdle.  I’m not sure how Povich would do out of the pen.  I imagine it would be a challenge to get used to. But, I do like the idea of bring pitchers in as a reliever to give them a taste at a young age like the Os did back in the day.

Trading for 2 guys is to me, a major misallocation of resources.    One shut down guy...ala Andrew Miller?  I get that.

But you shouldn't have to trade for 2 relievers.   If you don't have a guy in the minors who is good to very good and who can't come in and throw 1-2 innings?  You have problems.

Irregardless they are 2 bullpen arms short.

At this point, after seeing this game and about 3 other games lost this year, I have come around to the fact that the O's are going to have to trade for a shut down 7th and 8th inning guy.   I think that is all they need.

But for now they are that ONE guy short of having a BP that can win a WS this year.

I’d argue they are 2 guys short in the BP.

No doubt.  Winning probably helps but this team seems full of good people.

That’s absolutely part of the recipe.

  5. If Basallo goes off in the second half we have an outside shot for 4 #1 prospects 4 years in a row.  I’d say that’s elite.  The Latin players he signed in his first year are now 19 & 20 and just getting into full-season ball.  They have also hit on a lot of trades (Brandish, Cano, Povich, McDermott) and will continue to supplement the pipeline through additional trades.  Etzel, Fabian, EBJ, Horvath could all turn the dial up a notch or 2 and become big time prospects.

It wasn’t even really a swing, more like a one-handed downward chop just loosening up.  Got Mateo square at the bottom of the back of his helmet.  I’m sure Mullins had no idea Mateo was behind him.

BRob was announcing the game and boy was he horrified about what happened, given the consequences of hitting himself in the helmet with his own bat back in 2010.   Let’s hope this isn’t as serious.

Super scary.  A 17y/o in Gainesville FL lost his life last December from being hit with a swing. A teammate was swinging inside a batting cage and the bat caught him.  I think folks that have been around the game a lot have seen and heard of similar situations and understand the gravity.  I heard it on the radio and my heart sunk.  I really hope Mateo is OK and it doesn’t turn out to be serious.

    55% str%

Of the 46 balls he threw, I’d be curious on the total distance from the zone on all pitches added up.  No exaggeration it might be close to 46’.  He was consistently up and out arm side on his fastball missing by a foot.  He threw one ball to a RHB that hit in the middle of the LHB’s batter box.  His misses aren’t even remotely close.
