  1. I think Povich is appealing to Detroit because they aren’t rebuilding. They could be good next year. Povich could help to fill the void of Skubal.
  2. At the end of the day, if they trade for Skubal it’s gonna hurt. But they’ve put themselves in the position to go get him and not mortgage the future. I’ll be excited if we get him regardless of the price. I trust the FO to make a good deal that will benefit the org.
  3. He will. He is not below average right now. Unless you’re discounting him for his elbow issue.
  4. Fangraphs gives Holliday a 40/60 on D and Westburg a 40/40.
  5. Thats good reasoning. I just think this FO values guys up the middle. Basallo would be my #2 but man, I really really think he’s going to be special. I think his ceiling is the highest, especially if he sticks at C.
  6. I don’t think Holliday is on the table. I think Mayo is the guy that would get traded if we go for Skubal. Holliday can impact the game in so many ways and has defensive versatility. He’s OPSing .019 lower than Mayo at 2 years younger, he’s a threat on the bases, gives you plus defense and lineup versatility. Basallo being an up the middle guy with with star power potential is the other or the big 3 I don’t see them moving. Mayo is a flat out stud at the plate and I’d hate to lose him, but he’d be on the table for me since he is only a difference maker at the plate.
  7. I don’t think it’s the end all be all but rather a small data point. It’s def not make or break one way or another.
  8. Yes they do. Holiday to CF and Cowswer to RF/LF. Also have Hays, Stowers, and Norby. Could also resign Santander in that scenario.
  9. Multiple places to play. His skill set provides us with a ton of flexibility/options.
  10. He can prove the stuff plays at the MLB level. I think like Tony said, it’s also to see how much of a need we have. Like, do we need a stud #1 and a 3/4 or can we pick up one impact guy and absorb the load in house?
  11. I agree with this and I’d likely begrudgingly include him in a deal for a controllable ace, but the one thing that separates Holliday from Basallo & Mayo is the elite speed. Every scout and GM from Branch Rickey to Mike Elias will tell you that’s the separating tool because it impacts defense and offense. No ones untouchable but he’d need to be pried away with force.
  12. I can’t think of anyone. Maybe that’s a negotiating point with teams that are interested in drafting him. It will be interesting to see how he trains/prepares this year. It almost sounds like the transition to 3B has taken places. I think he mostly played 3B this summer. He’s not a burner like his brother, looks like his 60 is right around 6.9/7. From what I can see he stole 1 base on the PG tournament circuit this year. Baseball in that family runs deep so I’m sure they have a good tell on what’s best for him. His uncle, Josh Holliday, is the head coach and was a C/1B at OSU and in Blue Jays org. His uncle took over as head Coach when his grandfather, Tom, retired.
  13. Correct. And typically very similar, if not slightly bigger, than our parents. His dad was 6’4” 240 when playing. I think it’s safe to say he adds significantly to his frame. I’d be shocked if he didn’t.
  14. He’s 6’4 210 and just turned 17. He’s not done growing by a long shot.
  15. I’d say there are a few reasons for not going to college: 1. The time value of money 2. Faster route to FA 3. Better coaching in MiLB I’d be surprised if he turned down a round 1 pick to head to college.
  16. This article rattled off 11 high minors/high impact pitchers that other orgs covet but I’m being lead to believe that we have no pitching in the organization. Strange. It looks to me like the wave of pitching talent will be hitting next year & 2026. I’d be OK parting with some guys to fill the gap this year and next year. I’d hate to do it but if De Leon is the guy I need to included to get 2.5 years of a premium talent, I’d pull the trigger. Would Kjerstad, Norby, Bradfield, De Leon be enough for Skubal?
  17. By a lot. I looked at his numbers the other day and they are frightening. His K9 has dropped significantly while his BB9 has increased. Screams major regression on the horizon.
  18. Kinda weird play. It wasn’t a terrible throw. I think the runner thought it went through the infield. He took a wide banana turn. He wasn’t sprinting on a direct route to slide into 2b.
  19. If Skubal is going to be trade to us, it’s going to hurt. I’m not suggesting I’d do it, but for the sake of the thread I’m trying to be realistic.
  20. Mayo, Stowers, Povich, Bradfield for Skubal. Who says no?
  21. For sure. It just kinda jumped out to me this morning. Was the first time I read through the descriptions of all the draftees.
  22. Anyone else noticing, while reading these write ups, that the majority of these kids are fantastic students. It’s mention in quite a few descriptions.
  23. It was a weird carom. Looked like the LF was playing LCF. He threw the ball from deep at 1B and it hit the runner, but not flush in the back. The ball shot into shallow left field and continued into foul territory. The LF & 3B weren’t anywhere close to it.
  24. Ground ball he fielded and threw to 2B for a double play. The ball hit the runner in the back and went into LF. They lost 3-2.
