    Maybe?

    It's so hard to tell.

Wasn't there a stretch of time when the Rays just totally dodged arm injuries for like 2-3 seasons?

Folks started to think they'd found the secret, then Boom!

    Good point.

    Exactly.

Might not ever be an exact science, might be too much variance in the human body.

For sure.  Bautista is putting a lot more valgus stress on the bow than, say, Cole Irvin.

But I think it’s pretty well documented that both over work & under work will lead to issues.

Could Bautista have avoided problems if he wasn’t risen so hard last year?

Same could be said of Orioles pitchers too. Means, Bautista, Bradish (whatever his outcome is…I’m not holding my breath) plus we had several minor leaguers that have gone under the knife this spring.

I think the science is far from being settled.

I agree the science isn’t exact.

With that said, the O’s have done pretty well in the pitching health category.

I am glad to see all the position prospects/young players performing well at the plate. (It sure beats the alternative!)

However, I am not particularly impressed to see players who are repeating a level (some for the THIRD) doing well at ANY level.

IMO our AAA lineup’s early season video game numbers speaks more about Elias’ hoarding talent philosophy/strategy and his extreme caution, more than anything else.

These players success shows that they don’t believe at that level and are not really being challenged from inferior competition, which does not really excite me. The logjam at AAA and our inability/apprehension with getting rid of guys at the Major League level who are not particularly useful for a World Series contender is more concerning to me.

The average OPS in the Int League last year was .794.  Norby was .842.  To say he wasn’t being challenged or was too good for the league is false.

You could maybe make a case for Stowers who OPSed .954 in an injury shortened season after OPSing .882 in 2022.

Those are the only two guys repeating.  Look at their K numbers and you’ll see they are being challenged plenty (up until now).

I think they both are ready to play MLB, but to think they’d be an upgrade right away over someone in the lineup currently is foolish.

I can believe it.  A great rookie year, sophomore slump...3rd year probably tells you more about who a player really is.

Thats why AVG EV and Barrel % are better than the counting stats for predictive measures.  They stabilize much quicker (50 balls put into play).

Hays OPS+ for the season is 8. League average hitter is 100.

    Come on, man his OPS+ isn't that bad.........it's 9.

In all seriousness, I'm far from a Hays supporter and wanted to see him traded in the off-season, but I won't be calling for his head until mid-late May.  Ryan Mountcastle has 4 more hits than Austin and his OPS+ is 175.  You can't take anything from numbers in the first two series.

Maybe Elias just demoted Holliday because he's salty at Chris Getz over the Dylan Cease negotiations and wanted nights like tonight to happen this week.

Anybody look in on the White Sox board?

Omg.  Completely forgot Charlotte is WS AAA team.  Makes it so much better.  So good.  Imagine there is a topic over there right now 'We could have had Stowers or Kjerstad.....maybe both!!'

I can’t hold my liquor either but I agree.  Never sleep on it.  He’ll, I don’t even like too see it or smell it.  Just makes me hurl again.

Pretty sure you're being funny, but if not hurling is an Irish sport.  Easily one if, if not, the most hardcore/dangerous/violent sports in the world.  If you ever find yourself in Ireland, go out of your way to watch a match.  Entertainment value through the roof.  I don't even know how to describe it.  It's kinda like rugby mixed with lacrosse played with clubs and a baseball.

Norby looks like a guy going back to AAA for his 3rd season knowing he belongs in the big leagues on this picture.

The salt is palatable.  I was kind of amazed when I saw how many ABs he had in AAA.  He's 5 PA short of 700.  Thats a lot for a guy that's put up pretty big numbers.

Stowers  is @ 802 PA.   Interestingly they have almost identical OPS' in AAA (.873 Norby and .872 Stowers)

He made up his mind to swing before the 0-0 pitch, and he made up his mind to not swing before the 2 strike pitch.

I think he committed to not swinging *at a curve.  He saw it well previous two.  I think he saw the curve out of the hand and committed to not swinging.  He threw 4 curves in the AB, strike 3 was the only one in the zone and it was right on the edge.

Ya think?  Do teams often score 26 runs off good pitching?

I assumed @Sports Guy was talking about the Norfolk pitching, which has been awful tonight.

  12. How do they explain not scoring in the second? I hope not scoring in the second inning doesn’t become a trend all year.

He's now the Tides career HR leader with 43. Tied and took the lead from Christian Walker tonight!

Maybe he can carve out a nice career with ARZ?

Well everyone started to think they could do it when they took out Ragans. Plus, how in the heck is Will Smith considered a closer for anyone?

Ragans was as advertised.  Just like their bullpen lol.

I doubt anyone really wanted to play in the rain lol. The Royals definitely had a better approach for most of the game in a battle of (potentially) #1's.

They all have players behind them trying to take their job.  I don’t think weather plays any part in their drive to do their best every single game.  Some times you have to tip your cap to a guy shoving (Ragans).
