  1. A fair debate would be posting about all the games at roughly equal frequency with perhaps a bit extra attention paid to games that go against the established narrative. Fun fact, there are 15 teams in the National League and if you rank all of them by offensive production, Gausman has faced #12, #8, #10 twice, #15 twice and #9. It would be an absolute shock if his overall numbers weren't significantly improved after the trade basically by default, for one thing. Kinda like what's going on with Chris Archer right now I guess......that is pretty weird. I do believe that Gausman will put up better numbers in ATL than he did here but I don't really think this is another Arrieta situation.
  2. Translation: If you'll give me more money to play 3rd than you would to play SS..........I would be open to playing 3rd.
  3. Gotcha. There are two threads on the main forums page that reference the Gausman trade and I didn't see the loss mentioned in either one. And I don't really think it's a coincidence.
  4. Interesting how Gausman has his first real stinker start of the year for ATL (4.2 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 4 BB) and it doesn't even appear on this thread. Do people here actually enjoy bashing the O's for bad trades? And it's like.........disappointing when it goes the other way?
  5. Re-upping as often as people continue to ignore it and make claims that fly in the face of the data.
  6. Jeff Manto. Is that THE Jeff Manto!??!!? I think I have his autograph in a box somewhere.........
  7. Here are the facts: He is striking out batters at a lower rate than when he was here. He is walking batters at about the same rate. He is allowing fewer hits per 9 innings.........and FAR fewer HR / 9. This seems to be the root cause of his improved ERA. So if you think the coaches in ATL have done a great job at teaching him how to have his pitches hit more directly at fielders.........then I think it makes sense to criticize the O's for not doing the same. Personally I can't quite get there.
  8. Jace Peterson seems to be better than this 2018 version of Flaherty in every way.
  9. Duquette has said in interviews that he is targeting a 3 year plan. Frankly I was a little surprised that he put an exact number on it.........good for him. So that's what I will be judging him on...............assuming in 6 months he is still the GM of course. 2021 or bust! Who wants to make some shirts?
  10. Through 6 ish seasons - Schoop has been worth 11 WAR Villar has been worth 7. Seems straight forward to me. And I still have absolutely no qualms with the Schoop trade for the future of our franchise. Schoop is going to be somewhat expensive soon while we are going nowhere. Plus we got two non-zero prospects.
  11. At least we still have the All Star Game!
  12. Please be Markakis. Please be Markakis. Please be Markakis.
  13. Not sure if you guys heard........but my sources tell me that it's not Jones who we're moving right now. I'm thinking that means it's almost certainly one or more players that go by another name.
  14. With Manny at 3rd? Yeah.......in retrospect............
  15. Now up to .968. Had a 5 for 5 game with 2 HR the other day which really has a way of boosting one's numbers.
  16. Thrilled for him. If I do watch the game next week it will likely be just to see him.......can't imagine I'll watch much after the starters get pulled.
  17. Chris Davis 2.0 (starting his clock after his benching ended on June 22) now has a nearly .700 OPS. He's hitting .180 / .239 / .459 since then. Still pretty bad............but not earth shattering historic levels of bad!
  18. Kiermaier is hitting .160 with Tampa so I bet we could probably get him and he'd fit right in.
  19. Down to .833 now which is still better than his career average and on par with what he did over a full season in Colorado last year. If you peel back the layers, however......he is 5 for his last 40 with only 1 extra base hit so he's kind of in the middle of a free fall.
  20. If they throw in Ryan Flaherty I think Duquette pulls the trigger.
  21. I think this is wrong for a few reasons. They do have similar colors I guess tho so I suppose I can understand a little confusion.
  22. is it better to have a good chance at re-signing a star player.........and have him spurn you and go to your most hated rival? Or is it better to know ahead of time that you have no chance of re-signing him and try to get a decent return? I think the former is worse.........although obviously as long as Manny's trade value keeps decreasing it hurts more and more. But I think I would be much more angry if I really thought we would re-sign Manny in the offseason and then he left leaving us with nothing. I'm mad enough about how much we're paying Chris Davis and how that might hurt our ability to sign others.
  23. Sounds like our good friend Mr. Rosenthal has done a little bit of digging and declares that the O's are not likely to pull off a Machado trade with Boston. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/rosenthal-red-sox-orioles-not-224648727.html So I guess we can stop worrying about Devers for now.
  24. Sure, that is definitely a good distinction and I can agree with all of that. Another good distinction is whether you're talking about a team's top 5 or a 'top 5 in MLB prospect.' We tend to be a little loose with language sometimes. No one would be super excited about losing Manny for nothing more than a high draft pick.
  25. Obviously prospects don't necessarily 'guarantee you' anything. Having said that, some are safer bets than others. A guy like Devers who put up a .944 OPS season in AA at the age of 20.........yea that's pretty good.
