I think the season is ending at a good point for O's fans. We had the early season success by the guys that aren't pieces of the future and then the debut of some kids that did well despite the team playing poorly. But we haven't seen enough losing to really sour things.
What's a salary cap have to do with anything?
The Davis contract didn't push the Orioles' spending to a particularly high point.
If anything it's an argument against guaranteed money.
I think 28 out of 30 teams already knew not to sign a player like Davis to that type of contract.
He didn't exceed six innings pitched in any start this year. Last season he pitched seven five times. He never exceeded seven.
The demands on a TOR guy are not what they once were but I think the occasional eight or even nine inning start is still expected.
I agree.
Some folks think he should be considered untouchable in trade talks and I don't know why.
He looks like a useful piece, when healthy, but he didn't look like an overpowering weapon out there.
Two issues I see for Means.
He seems to get dinged up, he's missed time in both 2019 and 2020 with minor injuries. You generally consider a TOR guy to be durable.
He doesn't go deep enough into games. This is 2020 I'm not expecting him to throw a dozen complete games but a TOR guy needs to eat some innings and Means hasn't shown that yet.
