  1. It's exactly as simple as the parts I bolded. If someone accidentally hits a batter you don't intentionally hit someone in "retaliation". Why would you retaliate for an accident? If I make a mistake and step on your foot do you retaliate? Not if your an adult.
  2. That sure was an athletic play by Stewart!
  3. That's a terrible mindset.
  4. It's rough with Davis on the IL.
  5. Hate to see that, hopefully it's just a bruise.
  6. I think we should expect nothing and hopefully we'll be pleasantly surprised at some point.
  7. Way to take one for the team!
  8. Tough pitch to get called a strike.
  9. I think what while a RoY is a great big deal for the player that wins, in the grand scheme of things it is a very small deal. I'd rather not fiddle with it, I just don't see the need. If someone eventually wins two, big woop.
  10. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/we-analyzed-the-value-of-international-signing-bonus-money/ In 2017 $148,540,500 was spent in total for 800 players. I divided the one into the other. I'm not going to discount the discount group since you have folks like Atluve that signed for 15K.
  11. I'm not saying these guys don't have a chance, obviously they have a chance. But they are lottery tickets. In 2017 the average International player signed for $185,675.63. I think it is fair to say the majority of those guys would qualify as lottery tickets. What we do know is that they aren't high helium guys or they wouldn't have been traded and would be on prospect lists and they aren't complete non-prospects or Elias wouldn't have been interested. I'm glad Elias is avoiding the guys that would require 40 man slots and the old for their league college pitcher types and focusing on youth. Hopefully a couple of these tickets pan out.
  12. Diaz received 15.5M as a signing bonus. That is a higher quality international prospect. Yes guys at the 250K-300K tier do go on to have MLB careers but these aren't "higher quality international prospects", those generally find their way onto top 30 prospect lists. Edit- Checking out the O's Hangout top 30 prospect list from Oct 2010 (Schoop's first year stateside) he was listed in most folk's top 30. I mention Schoop because someone mentioned Schoop's lack of slugging in the DSL.
  13. I'm hopeful that these kids are throwing even if they aren't competitive innings.
  14. Actually I took a quick gander at Izturis' minor league numbers first and then made the comparison.
  15. Who is complaining? This was the guy they got for Bleier. Seems like a decent return for what was traded.
  16. Wasn't a good time for him to break out his change up. ?
  17. Maybe he'd be 25 pounds heavier? Athletes do change body composition depending on the role they are playing.
  18. Going off of very little information here but it looks like the O's didn't get an actual prospect for Bleier. I would have been surprised if they had. But great for Bleier he ended up on a possible playoff team that has a decent shot at advancing if they do make it.
