  1. I'd be surprised if he isn't in Baltimore by the start of the next homestand against the Yankees and Rays, starting on May 23.  Would be nice to see him in St. Louis though.

Given the way Elias has operated thus far, I would say extremely unlikely he sees any ML time this year.  If he continues to progress well, then he'll probably get a midseason promotion to Norfolk and finish the year there.  Next spring I predict a mild groin strain a week before Opening Day which will necessitate a rehab of about 2 weeks.

    Sounds about right.

Yeah Watkins hasn’t done anything to warrant a demotion. I kind of assumed he’d get lit up tonight but he just keeps giving us a chance to win.

Without looking at any advanced stats or peripherals, Watkins is starting to remind me of Miguel Gonzalez.  Keeping us in games (albeit SSS for SW) and somehow looking okay doing it.  If we can get something resembling Miggy's time in Baltimore out of him, that would be a huge win for them.   Obviously, still too early to expect that in any way, but just my musings.

I hope Nevin isn’t part of the youth movement.  I want good players for that.

Nevin is hardly an inspiring call up.  However, I have no problem with him getting at bats over the guys that are currently here and not producing.

  5. Good day for Tyler today. Reached base twice, two runs, and a good play at first.  Is it crazy to think Owings and Gutierrez will be the ones to go tomorrow?  Owings and Lakins?

Wells and Baumann gone They will need a long man for some games.I can see someone coming back up and Gutierrez gone .

Wells is having some elbow issues apparently, so probably not him.  I guess they feel comfortable with Akin as the primary long man for now.

They can live with the radio broadcasters who need to be more descriptive than TV callling games off monitors.

Why? Because other than the quality of the broadcast being impacted there is no visual where you are behind on the action.

Still a joke. It’s all about saving money. The more they try to hide that the worse they look.

100% about saving money.  Spot on.  Agreed on your point re: radio v. TV though.  In other words, I agree with everything you said.

Elias is bringing back Tom Eschelman.

Wait, I think Matt Harvey is ready.

I literally shuttered reading Eschelman's name and him as a possibility.  Totally would not put that past this team lol.

Yep and the A's always seem, to do enough to win tight, low scoring games.   Our record out there and the west coast in general has been terrible for a long time.

OH yeah.  Lots of 2-1, 3-2, 4-3 games.  Aside from a random sweep I recall, also terrible in Anaheim.

3 shutouts by Os pitching already.

The O's always pitch well in Oakland. I remember Harvey was dominant at their place last year.  Still fun to watch.

Be great if someone could actually get an interview from John Angelos and ask this.  Of course, he won’t discuss it I’m sure.

"John, how are you enjoying the rebuild?"

"Fans should be real excited for the next several years, huh?"

"Great to have fans back in the seat again, huh?"

What is your favorite new food at Camden Yards?"

The lack of travel is definitely affecting the quality of the broadcast. As others have said, in normal sports broadcasts the announcers have a slight lead on the viewer in understanding what's happening, since they can see the whole field. The effect is that they can guide the viewer through the action at the same time as the action comes on screen, sometimes cueing the audience into what to expect even before it's clear on the screen. This is more important in baseball than in other sports, since it requires more camera cuts to track the action.

In these Oakland games, you can tell that the announcers don't know what happens until it's on the screen, so they can't tell you what happened until after you understand it. It makes the whole viewing experience less synchronous and smooth. It's not just that they might miss some details, it's that their function as real-time storytellers of the game is diminished every time there's a ball in play of uncertain outcome.

Last night the game ended on a check swing third strike, but the camera missed the call by the base umpire. The game was over for several seconds before the announcers could say for sure what was happening.

In the Tampa series I heard Palmer make a couple passive but pointed comments about the lack of travel. It has to be frustrating for them to be one of the only teams in the league being held back.

Yup, more patheticness from a terribly run organization.
