Yeah, I have never been and don't really have a hankering to, but there on only 30 on the list, so you may as well check it off.

US Cellular is very meh, but Chicago is awesome and you're right, may as well check it off when you can.  I remember they had good soft serve ice cream, so there's that.

Of the Bowie pitchers, he is the most likely to get a cup of coffee for two reasons:

    (1) He has to be added to the 40-man roster in the off-season anyway.

    (2) He threw 131 and a third innings last year and has only thrown 94 and a third innings this year, so he isn't up against an innings cap.

I don't think we have enough information about Elias' philosophy on call-ups as this is his first September to know whether he might get a call, but I would imagine it is at least a possibility.

Good post and I agree.  I'm pretty high on him, so would love to at least get a taste of how his stuff plays in MLB.

Hoping he is a solid #3 for us whenever we are competitive.

I'm pleading complete obliviousness with this post, but can somebody explain the basis for the Lew Ford jokes that pop up from time to time?  I clearly must have missed the origins.

I could be wrong, but back in 2012, when Lew Ford was a decent right handed bat off the bench, one poster stated that he did not understand why everyone hates Lew Ford because some posters were critical of him (as they are with any players).  Since then, some posters (myself included) have, for fun, extended the Lew Ford hate, years after his playing career was done.

Also, man do I miss 2012.

I agree that I think a free agent shortstop is in the immediate future.  I dont think you realize how screwed the yankees and red sox are in relation to the cap.  The yankees need to add pitching and I fully expect them to go after Cole.  The Sox would like to keep Betts.  Either of those players is easily a $25 million a year player.  I dont see either retaining their current shortstops.

You dont want any part of Jordy Mercer.

There are also some teams out there with multiple SS prospects and I could see some shifting around of them.  The Pirates comes to mind.

I could see the Orioles signing Galvis and then maybe flipping him at the deadline.

One game doesn't make him a better player. His poor defense and poor OBP are two big non redeeming qualities and probably the reason why no other teams were interested in him before the trade deadline. If he was hitting 40+ HRs then maybe it's something you can tolerate, but he's not. At his best he's basically Tim Anderson who's also not a very good player.

It's been said over and over on here that he is league average or better.  If all it costs is $7M to bring him back for one year, then bring him back and hope to trade him (it didn't happen this year, yada yada) at the deadline.  There is literally no one breaking down the door to st art at 2B or SS next year.

Tate showed flashes. I’d like to see him in strictly 1 IP outings. We’ve gone through so many arms, I’m surprised we haven’t seen Hunter Harvey.

I think Tate can be a solid reliever for us.  It's brutal to see them keep throwing Eshelman out there though.

That's the Braves #1 pick from 2015 and #10 prospect. Not setting the world on fire but a  nice return for a 31 year old pending free agent.

Agreed.  Makes you wonder what the Braves would've given for Givens, who has of course struggled but has a good K rate and is controllable.

Yes that’s true, but I have heard multiple dumb plays lamented about by the radio guys, TV guys too, but mostly I listen, and when Jim Hunter is lamenting, it means something. And remember, dumb plays don’t necessarily show up as errors.

Bear in mind that I am not anti-Villar, I just don’t think he has much value, but I do think we should get rid of him if possible.

I wouldn't get rid of him just to get rid of him.  He's still an asset and if you aren't pleased with the return, I'd keep him.  And I wouldn't trade him just because of some dumb players (which I believe have mostly just been pick offs at 1b)

If his value is as a pinch hitter, utility type I'd just keep him.

Same.  I don't really see a need to trade Alberto, he won't fetch much.  The only guy I would like to see the Orioles trade is Villar (and Mancini for the right offer, but I doubt they move him).

  11. 14 hours ago, Philip said:

But he isn’t. The Rangers dumped him in part because his defense is mostly unplayable.

What's the harm in letting him play 3B every day for the rest of the year?  We lose 2 more games?
