  6. Baysox Explode in 13-0 Shutout Bowie has hit 12 home runs in the last four games. BOWIE, Md. -- The Bowie Baysox scored 10 runs in the first three innings to cruise to a 13-0 shutout of the Harrisburg Senators in front of 7,947 at Prince George's Stadium Thursday night. The Baysox (12-4) got the fireworks show started early, blasting three home runs in the first inning to take a 5-0 lead. The two-out rally started with Yusniel Diaz, who launched a two-run shot to the woods in left field for his ninth long ball of the season. After a Carlos Perez infield single, Rylan Bannon lifted an opposite-field two-run shot to right-center to double the lead. Jesse Valentin went back-to-back by sending his seventh home run of the year to right-center--the fourth time this week that the Baysox have hit back-to-back home runs. Bowie extended its lead to 7-0 with two runs and another two-out rally in the second inning. A single and two walks loaded the bases for Bannon, who grounded a ball through the legs of shortstop Luis Garcia. The fielding error allowed Ryan McKenna and Diaz to score a pair of unearned runs off Harrisburg starter Tyler Mapes. The hosts reached double figures with three runs in the third inning to expand the margin to 10-0. A walk, a single and another walk loaded the bases for McKenna, who nearly hit his fourth home run of the week to left field. A two-run double off the top of the wall scored Preston Palmeiro and Mason McCoy for the center fielder's 12th RBI of the week. Diaz lifted a sacrifice fly to left field one batter later, scoring D.J. Stewart for his third RBI of the night. For a finale, the hosts added three runs in the eighth inning to take 13-0 lead. McKenna launched his second double of the night to the left of dead center field for his third RBI of the game. Diaz lifted a sacrifice fly to left field for his fourth RBI, while Bannon beat out a potential double play to drive in his third run of the evening. Meanwhile, Bruce Zimmermann earned his fourth win of the season by tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing five hits while striking out seven Senators. The lefty retired eight in a row through the middle innings, while allowing just two runners to reach third base. The quality start marked the fourth in his last five starts, while also avenging a June 23 loss at FNB Field in Harrisburg. Pedro Araujo capped off the night and completed the shutout by tossing a pair of scoreless relief innings. Bowie and Harrisburg (5-10) continue their four-game series Friday night at 7:05 p.m., when LHP Zac Lowther (8-5, 2.46 ERA) and RHP Steven Fuentes (3-3, 1.80 ERA) take the mound in game two. 9. Hartford, CT – Jack Wynkoop tossed a complete game four-hit shutout as the Hartford Yard Goats defeated the Bowie Baysox 4-0 in the series finale Wednesday evening. For the first time in the series, the Yard Goats scored the first run of a game. Vance Vizcaino led off the third inning with a triple off Michael Baumann, who was making the first Double-A start of his career. Baumann struck out the next two batters, but with two outs Arvicent Perez snuck a single into right field, scoring Vizcaino and giving Hartford a 1-0 lead. That run in the third was the only run Hartford would score against Baumann in what was a very impressive start. The Yard Goats added a second run in the seventh off reliever Francisco Jimenez. Tyler Nevin led off the inning with a single, and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Two batters later, Mylz Jones doubled down the left field line, making it 2-0 Hartford. In the eighth, Hartford added another run when Manuel Melendez scored on a throwing error. Colton Welker then came in to score on a wild pitch to make it 4-0. Bowie’s best chance to score came in the fifth inning, when Rylan Bannon singled and Jesmuel Valentin doubled to lead off the inning. After a pop out and a strikeout, Chris Clare was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but Wynkoop induced a fly out to end the inning. The Baysox return home on Thursday night to begin a four-game series against the Harrisburg Senators heading into the All-Star break. Thursday night’s July 4th contest features an Independence Day celebration including a fireworks display after the game. Bruce Zimmermann will start for Bowie opposing Harrisburg hurler Tyler Mapes. With the pair of setbacks, the Keys were swept in the three-game series and finished the homestand 2-5. Jomar Reyes led the offense in the second game, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs. The four RBIs equaled his largest output in a Keys uniform. In game two, the Keys enjoyed a 4-2 lead after five innings. A two-run homer by Reyes put the Keys ahead in the fourth, while he added an RBI base knock that scored Zach Jarrett one inning later. From there, Lynchburg plated the final four runs. Back-to-back singles with one out put the tying run on base against Kieran Lovegrove. A wild pitch moved Gavin Collins to third, before a Mike Rivera groundout made it a one-run contest. Lynchburg then plated three more runs in the seventh. Lovegrove (0-1) issued two walks and hit a batter to load the bases and force a pitching change. Entering with nobody out and the Carolina League’s top hitter at bat, Tim Naughton threw a wild pitch to score the tying run, before an Oscar Gonzalez two-run single made it a two-run Hillcats lead. The Keys put the tying run on base in the seventh but could not score against Yapson Gomez. Riley Echols (3-0) pitched a scoreless sixth to earn the win, while Lovegrove allowed four runs in one inning on two hits in the loss. Gomez picked up the save, working a clean seventh. The Hillcats produced three multi-run innings in game one. Sending eight to bat in the first inning, Oscar Gonzalez singled off the body of Brenan Hanifee to make it 1-0, while an infield single later in the inning by Jodd Carter put the visitors up a pair. Hector Hernandez (1-1) held the Keys off balance following that. Making his second start with Lynchburg, the 28-year-old earned the win delivering 5.2 scoreless innings of three-hit baseball to go with two walks and seven strikeouts. Still a 2-0 score after five innings, Hanifee (5-8) retired the first two batters of the sixth, but would not record another out. A walk and a single put two aboard for Nolan Jones who hit a three-run homer to right. Gonzalez followed with a solo blast. The Hillcats hit back-to-back homers in the seventh as well, getting solo shots from Collins and Carter. Hanifee suffered the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in 5.2 innings.
