6 walks last night for Delmarva batters, 6 strikeouts. That is 12 walks, 7 strikeouts in the two games since the new draftees arrived.
My goodness I must be bored.

The one strikeout was from Mayo, 2020 draft pick.
Just for fun, looked up the box score. Fredericksburg is a Nats affiliate. They used 5 pitchers against the Shorebirds, and only struck out one batter, walking 6. Looking at the combined stats of their pitchers, they have 190 K's in 189 innings. Not reading anything into this, but when a team's batters walk 6 times more than they K, I'm impressed.
PS: One of the pitchers is named Trey Turner.

0 strikeouts.
Not sure if you mean yesterday's game.... But I checked the boxscore and saw Delmarva batters walked 6 times and K'd 1. That is eyepopping in the modern game.

In the completion of yesterday’s Orange vs. Black game, Black was leading 3-1 heading to the final inning. For sone reason, they allowed Black reliever Orlando Fulgencio to throw a 10-run inning without ever removing him from the game. Single, walk, passed ball, ground out, triple, error, stolen base, hit by pitch, wild pitch, single, single, wild pitch, wild pitch, walk, homer, single, wild pitch, pop out, single, ground out.
That’s cruel and unusual punishment if you ask me.
"The Ballad of Will Cunnane"
(Had to look this up on Baseball Reference to confirm my memory)
Will Cunnane was a Rule 5 player on the Padres in 1997. Going into May 16 of that year, he was sporting a 2.63 ERA through his first 10 games spanning 13 2/3 innings.
I was watching the game on TV. The Cubs quickly jumped all over Padres starter Tim Worrell on a windy day, not ideal, as their bullpen was gassed. In comes poor Will Cunnane, who they left in for 3.2 brutal innings in which he got bashed for 10 runs on 11 hits and a walk. Threw 76 pitches. After every batter, I remember Will looking into the dugout with a "you can come get me now" look. And Bruce Bochy would be tying his shoes, looking at the scorecard, opening a piece of gum, completely avoiding him.
Cunnane left that game with a 7.27 ERA. Didn't seem to affect him too badly, he only allowed two runs in his next 14 innings.
I can only imagine Orlando Fulgencio looking over......
PS: As I'm writing this, I'm watching Austin Wynns pitch in 16-2 game through 8 innings. Time to get my Rum on.

Phillips pitched 3 innings for Tampa last night and got a save.
And this morning they DFA'd him.
Would love to have been a fly on the wall for the decision making discussions.

Rays call up Evan Phillips, whom they claimed when the Orioles DFA'd him earlier this season.
This scratches my head. Confounds the senses. Can't sniff a callup on team with a pitching staff just that side of disaster-ville, but is good enough to be called up to the first place Rays? There must be factors in play that are not obvious......

Beckham? Broxton? Also, Jimmy Santiago Paredes comes to mind.
This guy could be entertaining to watch.

I am instantly a Connor Greene fan. What an arm. Bromance, initiated. His Norfolk stats look dreadful, but damn, he's fun to watch, and hell, 98 with movement. I'll take seconds, thanks.
Tempered in my enthusiasm, I remember Mike Wright's first two starts, and more eerily, I remember being at a game early in Mark Kroon's (Padres) career thinking the same thing.
Man, am I easy to impress and entertain these days.

Connaughton will take a good deal of coaching to tighten his mechanics and improve his changeup, but you can't teach a live arm and there's not going to be many better athletes than him. Based on personal preference for the more polished types I'd still take Gonzalez, though.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if David Hess turns out to be the most productive draftee from this class.
Oh, that did not age well.

I was having a fine day. Nice weather, tasty adult beverage.

KC fan suicide watch.
After listening to the Bosox pick blather on (I'll never write or say his name) and seeing his face, I definitely, instantly, do NOT like that guy. May he have an allergic reaction to pine tar.
Time to get my Captain Morgan's on.

Longenhagen and Goldstein over at FG just mentioned that there’s a lot of scouts who really like Cowser.
That is good to hear. And my sincere wish is Cowser goes on to have a long and prosperous career in the Orange and Black.

This is Baltimore, gentlemen. The gods will not save you.
I. Do. Not. Like. This. Pick.
However, i'm an idiot fan sitting at home. People much brighter than I am are in charge, and spend most moments of most waking hours building an overall plan, not worrying about my reaction to the first choice of a draft.
That said. Ugh. Diamondback fans must be ecstatic.

Orioles lurking at #5, surely to cause half this board anxiety and disappointment.
Here's Manfred, getting booed...as he should be.
Was that really booing? Sure sounded like it, wow.

Just signed up for Milb.tv so I can watch tonight's game, the #1 pitching prospect pitching to the #1 catching prospect.
LOL, looking at this video, it looks like my Dad's Super-8 footage of me pitching in high school......

That’s pretty crazy, especially the walk rates of Servideo and Harris. Even Barry Bonds only exceeded 30% twice. Ted Williams and Babe Ruth never did. And I’m sure nobody’s pitching around Servideo or Harris.
I'm sorry, but if I was playing baseball trivial pursuit and any form of this question was asked to me...... there would be failure. So much failure. Never would have guessed.

And speaking of moves does anyone know what is going on with this and why Ryan Wagner was dismissed?
via cbs:
According to the report, Wagner’s firing was due partly to his commentary on his personal Twitter account, @rwags614. The report states that Wagner had previously been cautioned by the team about his social media posts.

Pretty crazy numbers there.
Saying that, I remember how different Mike Wright looked in his debut then he ever looked in the minors.
I was having a great spring morning, nice up of coffee, birds singing outside, and you had to go and bring up Mike Wright. Morning, Ruined.
That said, to go into that stadium against that lineup, in that situation... wow, nice job, kid.

Matt Harvey (NRI)
(3/1) Hasn't pitched well in the majors since 2018 and was hammered last year in Kansas City. His lost spin on his stuff but will be given an opportunity to win a spot in the rotation or possibly in the pen. When I squint real hard through my orange colored glasses, and catch a vision out of a mirror in the corner of the room, I see a guy who still has his velocity, converted to a sinker ball pitcher, is comeback player of the year material, dominates in a couple starts heading to the trading deadline, and some really good prospect in some other team's system gets a phone call and he looks at his girlfriend, and says "Baltimore?"

Random player from history: Ken Dixon.
When Ken Dixon was in Double-A Charlotte, he was such a strikeout wizard that the organization would hand out K cards on the days he pitched.
Random, almost related fact about the 1980 draft:
The O's first rounder 26th overall was Jeff Williams, not a sniff of the majors.
Ken Dixon was taken 61 overall
then.....
I was taken 594th overall, before:
Danny Jackson 599
Darren Daulton 629
Chris Sabo 727 overall
(.....one of those things is not like the other)

Shorebirds lineup tonight
in Minors

8 more walks and 5 k's for Delmarva yesterday, so 20 walks and 12 strikeouts in the 3 games since the 2021 draftees arrived. Have no idea what this means, but I like it.
