Mullins, Cowser, and Hicks are all LH. The orioles love having platoon options. I posted this in cowsers’s thread, but I think the most likely demotion right now for Cowser would be Vavra (and then yes he plays LF and santander moves to 1b/dh)

Waiver claims are generally players that have been given chances at the ML level and not succeeded. Vavra had been successful at Triple-A before being called up. That's the difference. And I'm I'm not saying never claim anyone off of waivers, but a contending team shouldn't generally be regularly bringing in and relying on other teams cast-offs during the season.

Elias is obsessed with mediocre LH bench bats. First we had Phillips, then Frazier, now Hicks, and O'Hearn. Even Vavra, who is at least through the fam system and not a waiver claim. Meanwhile the RH hitters continue to tear up Triple-AAA

I really don’t think they’re trying to manipulate service time with westburg. He’s just not LH and elias is obsessed with a platoon (it’s also past service time manipulation deadlines)

I do not understand todays bullpen usage. You have two long guys, so you purposefully have one of them throw only one inning? Then you pull the second in the 4th? Now you have no long relievers left, and 5 innings to cover.

Garceau and Newman on the radio call today is just as bad as you’d imagine. Garceau basically adds nothing, and Newman’s verbiage is just weird ie my battery mate needs to send me something here. Trying way to hard to be original. And they’re both just very slow on the call, so you get no rhythm or feel for the game

Analytics would say don’t send a starter through a lineup a third time, which probably has something to do with why the starters get pulled early. As @Frobbypointed out, that’s pretty standard league wide, and doesn’t really explain the bullpen usage. I sort of doubt it’s sig/data driven either, given that the other analytics heavy organizations don’t do it. Otoh if they didn’t like it you’d think they’d have a conversation with him. Regardless of who is to blame, this is my single biggest long term worry with this team right now.

@Tony-OHI get your frustration at Gibson not being able to go more innings tonight. But come tomorrow morning guy is going to be top 10 in mlb in IP. For what the Orioles paid for him, he's more then done his job (so far) Hyde's lack of ability/understanding for how to use a long reliever is a much bigger source of frustration for me

Hyde just chews through the bullpen. Like this should've been an Akin game after Gibson. Any why on earth is Cano up with a 5 run lead? Hyde's lack of bullpen management is a real long term weakness

Gunnar heating up would definitely help the Orioles right now. It's not going to happen but Gunnar in CF is an interesting thought (if the Orioles are going to continue to have to many IF). By sprint speed he's actually the second fastest Oriole (after Mateo)
