I don't disagree with Bucks advice to Mountcastle, I just wish he'd hold his veterans more accountable. I know he respects them, but as you said they are making millions to perform at a certain level.
I don't think it was either Garcia or Cashner. They could have handled both on the payroll. They need guys that can take the mound. Garcia may not be able to do that much.
That the stuff is there? Gallardo obviously had diminished stuff before the Orioles signed him. So, since Gausman had almost 9k/9, you throw out he stunk last year?
All I was saying is the stuff is there. And his results were good last year. That doesn't matter because he wasn't striking guys out? Does his 87mph exit velocity mean anything?
The Orioles still have $35m to possibly work with. What if they signed Lynn and Cobb? Be a shocker, but it hasn't been a typical off-season.
I'd still rather trade a Brach or Givens for McHugh. Maybe sign one of Cobb/Lynn and trade for Corbin?
And Greinke still works in the 90's. He's showing no signs of regression. I doubt his velocity will suddenly fall off the charts. I think he will be effective at a high level for 3 or 4 years and be pretty solid for 2 or 3 years after that, if he decides to keep playing.
Pitchers can adjust. Look at CC Sabathia.
See Miami. Ownership instantly started trading the money makers. A team without alot of commited salary obligations is attractive to a potential buyer. Not only do you not have alot of salary, it gives a potential owner more of a clean slate to work with.
A new owner would probably want his own GM and manager. Maybe Pete is setting things up for a sale.
Wishful thinking probably
He doesn't rely on velocity. He knows how to pitch. He's like Greg Maddux, and I firmly believe Greinke can and will be successful late into his 30's. If the Orioles could get him for some marginal prospects I'd be all over it.
Raphael Palmerio first stint with the Orioles. Matt Holliday with the Cards. Manny Ramirez with Boston. Nelson Cruz with the Mariners. Greg Maddux with the Braves. Jim Thome with the Phillies. Vlad Guerrero with the Angels...just to name a few.
I don't mind him as much when we're winning. That's the nicest thing I can say haha. He's got a really good voice and is funny. But...he should be more of a national broadcaster. I will say, Palmer and Thorne are by far the best MASN has. I get just as aggravated at Hunter and Bordick for being such homers.
I really can't stand the man. Like the smirking when talking to Brach. I'm sure Brach was in a joking "how about them yankees" mood. I know Thorne isn't or shouldn't be a homer. But for God's sake, atleast remember your the Orioles announcer. We're not quite as thrilled or excited when the other team sticks a dagger in us.
Yeah, Arod got pretty big from 19-24 also. Obviously he never used during those years. And I never said Manny was guilty. I said I'd be leary of a long contract (meaning 10 years or more).
