  1. Let's get legal then. Combine this with your earlier comment about Brown being a diva. Brown would have a better case to litigate you for defamation, because of a complete lack of evidence, than the Orioles would have to litigate the hundreds of people slamming Angelos for defamation, because there will be a dozen people capable of taking the stand to confirm what happened. It wouldn't be practical of course because a few comments on a message board won't really hurt Brown nor justify the cost in court.
  2. All the brass needs to do is apologize and give Brown a few bucks for his missed time. So simple, but it won't happen, because they don't think they've done anything wrong. They will die on the hill.
  3. John Angelos - does something crazy social media - "you call that crazy? watch this"
  4. I imagine on the baseball ops side that it'll be Elias getting more inane questions than the players.
  5. I would say he could drag the Commissioner's Trophy around the parking lot but we don't have one that's less than 40 years old.
  6. Maybe. But, unlikely, I would say. Peter got national headlines because his team was doing well in the mid 90s. Plus the stadium was still new. What I'm hoping for is that the lease situation becomes a bigger story, so the Angeloses can't try to quietly sneak the Orioles out of town somehow.
  7. Well they didn't "suspend" him, they just, y'know... didn't schedule him... Like Ben said, scheduling issue. Right?
  8. That would be fantasic if it happens - Kinsler logged 35 WAR during his first eight seasons in Texas.
  9. I also barely remember the '83 World Series - and that is because I was 3.
  10. Fangraphs would be giving the Orioles grief no matter what they did.
  11. Forgive me in kind if I sound like a nosy reporter - but is there a decent chance Flaherty wants to stick around past this season?
  12. Yup - he struggled a bit in the 6th inning but pitched out of it, and that's what the Orioles need, the way they've used their bullpen this season. Hardly anybody goes past 7 innings even if they're pitching lights out. Flaherty's first game, on the road against a division opponent, is a success. Gave them everything they asked for.
  13. Heard on the radio in the 9th inning of today's game... Ryan Mountcastle is 11 for 13 in the latest Blue Jay series, with 2 sac flies to boot. We've seen our share of Oriole Killers on the Blue Jay side - Kevin Pillar, Randal Grichuk lately - and to be fair, there's been vice versa over the years. Mountcastle's right there with the best of them. In is career, prior to today, he has played in 48 games against the Jays, and 203 plate appearances, which is appreciable for a split vs one team. He was hitting .330/.394/.643 for a 1.037 OPS, with 60 hits, 15 HR, 18 walks, 32 runs scored and 41 RBI. His tOPS+, which is the split relative to his career OPS, is 166. His BAbip was .354. Then he goes out today and bats 4 for 4. All singles. It doesn't matter if he's at home or on the road. In Rogers Center he's OPSing 1.005. Today the Jays pulled a left handed pitcher for a righty just for Mountcastle. Didn't matter. This season he is 12 for 25 with a HR, 8 runs and 9 RBI, 4 walks and 4 strikeouts (even K/BB? Who does he think he is, Adley Rutschman?) So this thread is specifically to honor the pain in Toronto's butt that is Ryan Mountcastle. Let us savor the moments.
  14. The Legend of Frazier will be fleeting. Perhaps we shall erect an effigy in his honor.
  15. Some estimated market value AAVs for 2024 free agents from Spotrac (so take it with a grain of salt) Rhys Hoskins - 18.37 Lourdes Gurriel - 17.76 Josh Bell - 17.56 Max Muncy - 15.00 Matt Chapman - 14.75 Joey Gallo - 13.22
  16. I'll take .750 from a seven-hole hitter in today's average run environment.
  17. Drungo!!! Hi, long time no talk You've always had the best history nuggets
  18. We'll see, but again, I believe he starts more games at SS than Henderson or Holliday, though all three will see time there. Westburg covers 2B and 3B but does not play SS. Just as an aside - the thought of Henderson, Holliday, Ortiz, Westburg and Mayo sharing the same infield - that is an insane collection of talent!
  19. Certainly happier giving up mid prospects for Flaherty than top prospects for a higher profile rental. Somebody like Civale with three more years of control? Different story.
  20. Aye, that's the rub. The Orioles do happen to be paying him $7.4 mil in arbitration this season. If they're willing to pay his arbitration number next season, it's not a terribly big jump to $20 mil per. It'll be interesting to follow. Good thing is, next season isn't this season and we get a chance to see the Orioles try to win a championship regardless.
  21. Based on what was given up, I'm pretty happy with it (B). The Fuji trade was really good. Flaherty's was meh, but he does give them what they need most and that's rotation innings.
  22. I disagree; Mateo is made for a role on a championship team, but not as a starter. Rather a defensive replacement, pinch runner, and pinch hitter vs LHP (currently a 784 OPS) where we will see a lot of lefty/righty chess moves in the post season.
