  1. Would probably keep people from turning off the TV.
  2. They aren't wasting a year of control. He's only going to get like 30 days of service. 172 days of service = 1 year.
  3. Helping Baltimore make the playoffs is more important than helping Bowie in their playoffs. If he was going to start next year on the OD roster then this doesn't cost them any years of control. If they're optioning him to start next season, they'll need to keep him down an extra month if they're trying to get an extra year. If Buck plays Rickard over Hays, it's probably time for him to retire.
  4. Yes, this starts his service clock. If he makes the OD roster next year, he won't be a Super 2 (assuming he stays in the big leagues permanently). They'd have to option him and leave him in the minors about a month past the Super 2 cutoff (or what they think it'll be, there's no official cutoff), if they wanted to avoid Super 2.
  5. If Buck starts Rickard over Hays, he's on crack.
  6. I doubt it. He has 2 options left after this year. He's not a bad guy to have on the 40 while he has options.
  7. This is the most excited I've been for a call-up since Manny.
  8. That last one was absolutely filthy. Where are the strikeouts? He should be striking out twice as many batters as he currently is.
  9. Simmons is definitely ahead of Manny too. Lindor, Jose Ramirez, Kluber? You missed all the Indians' guys.
  10. Lol Betances should've gotten 25 games.
  11. One of his worst defensive seasons came at age 26 according to both Fangraphs and BBref. FG has it at his worst. He was consistently bad throughout his career.
  12. So a few good plays here and there make up for him being terrible otherwise? He made up for it with his bat but he probably should've been at 3B or LF. Maybe 2B.
  13. I never said he wasn't. I'm just saying that GGs don't prove he was good. http://www.highheatstats.com/2014/03/owar-and-dwar/
  14. I never saw Eddie play, but saying he won the GG 3 times doesn't really mean anything. Derek Jeter won 5 and he's arguably the worst defensive SS of all time. Didn't Rafael Palmeiro win the GG in a year where he DH'd almost every game?
  15. Do AAA pitchers have better arms than AA pitchers? I'd lean toward the opposite but that's just a guess. AA has prospects whereas AAA has a bunch of AAAA guys.
  16. He's striking out 4 batters per 9 IP. 4. How does someone with an "easy 99" only strikeout 12 batters in 27 innings? That doesn't bode well for future results. SSS and all, but we're already annointing him an excellent bullpen piece? Really? He's being way overrated in this thread. It's weird to me that some choose to ignore strikeouts.
  17. Don't draft eligible sophomores have to be 21? He'd only be 20 and 8 months.
  18. Chen might need Tommy John.
  19. Mark Reynolds is slashing .333/.402/.684/1.085 with 12 homers.
  20. Fangraphs has those players combining for 5.7 WAR. That's including Miggy but not Chen. Would be 8 wins if you included Chen. 5.7 out of 16.3 WAR that our pitcher's produced that year. The position players combined for 12.7 WAR, of which DD contributed 1.8 between McClouth (1.2) and Betemit (0.6). That's 7.5 WAR out of 29. Nice contributions, yes. But I give most of the credit to AM and Buck.
  21. You realize that he traded for Jason Hammel, not Cole Hamels, right? Those are ace numbers. Jason Hammel certainly was not an ace in 2012. I'm not arguing that DD hasn't added some nice short-term pieces. I'm arguing with your statement that he's the one who rescued this org from purgatory. He was given a fantastic core of players when he got the job.
