Harvey, 76 pitches thru 5.
Feels so bad swinging at a curve like that one to end the inning. Really fooled.

Good lord! What is with the hatred?
MC had a chance at that but Mullins called him off.
Just like a centerfielder is supposed to do...

Has Palmer crossed over from arrogant to cranky arrogant?
I think Garceau irks him. And he misses working with Gary Thorne.

That felt nice -- been too long since I have seen an Orioles manager ejected from a game.

I think Galvis needs a little more on his throws than what he has shown today.

No fan of Garceau. I do like Kevin Brown and Geoff Arnold.
But it would have taken ten minutes to find out what happened at the end of the game if Manfra had been yammering and stammering, failing miserably to untie his tongue. Whenever something exciting happened, he either gurgled nonsense or there was dead air.

Reading comment sections open to the public is like walking around WalMart and asking people probing questions about the works of Tolstoy. If you're expecting deep and detailed responses you're a little nuts.
Yes, I'll concede that people with only the most superficial understanding of baseball analytics might occasionally use WAR on its own, unquestioningly. But those are the same people who 25 years ago would tell you of course Juan Gonzalez was the best player in the league, he won the MVP award twice!
Yet another reason why I never shop at Walmart.
Funny thing: after having just railed against some people using the WARs as discussion enders, your post prompted me to refamiliarize myself with Juan G. Looks like he should never have seen the field considering his -11.6 career dWAR (bbref). Even as a 21 year old, he registered a -1.5 dWAR. That's shocking.

That's twice now you've referenced my post. You do understand that I was making a very simple, narrow point in reaction to what I considered an overly simple point made by another poster.
Both myself and others have made plenty of posts about the various strengths and weaknesses of both Severino and Sisco and how they compare to other catchers. I felt no need to go into a lengthy post in response to someone who 1- Wouldn't read it and 2- Wouldn't change their mind regardless of the evidence presented.
OK. that's fine. I purposefully did not reference you directly a second time because I had already quoted you once.
For what it is worth, I think the bolded part is the most important: Severino and Sisco are the best options the Orioles currently have in their system.

Please show me some examples. Because I hear them talked about every day in the context of the threat they are to civilization, but like bigfoot finding one is terribly challenging.
Ha! Ever read comments on MLBTR? There is even a comment earlier in this thread that relied solely on WAR to prove a point. The comment asserted that GMs judge players according to a player's worth compared to over replacement level - as opposed to dumb fans, was the gist. I can't imagine professional baseball talent evaluators even using WAR in conversation or determining value going forward anymore with real data - Statcast data on spin, speed, movement, etc. The only time you'd hear it used nowadays by an organizational employee would be lawyers fighting arbitration cases.

SOSH's hatred of the Yankees was nearly pathological, especially of Jeter and Rivera I seem to recall.

Mets and Yankees owned local TV Networks playing James Earl Jones "People Will Come " speech seems like 30 times a day lately .
You can bet they will be trottting that out on Thursday at OPACY. Probably a league directive.

I thought so... but WTF does he have to do with the Red Sox?
14 HRs in 154 ABs in his first?rookie year in Boston. Looked like a bopper had emerged.

I know it was Opening Day. Don’t think all 3 off Brett.

Sons of Sam Horn. Don't know what that references. That's the "premier" site up there.
You forgot Sam Horn? Former Red Sox, former Oriole Sam Horn? Who hit 3 HRs off Saberhagen on Opening Day in 1990?

Or, hopefully more success. How should we determine when leaving the starter in is turning success into tragedy?
He was fortunate to escape the 6th inning allowing only one run while he was losing command. He was already on his third time through the order. Failure was lurking.

Since when is Cole Sulser a multi-inning guy?
I think they are are all expected to be this year.

Cool that you don't care. But Zimmerman and Hyde and Holt and Elias all care about how Zimmerman feels - physically and emotionally - after this start.
QuoteIf Zimmerman can't deal with that kind of adversity, he likely doesn't have the mental fortitude to be a professional athlete.
There is no justification for declaring that removing him from this game is a failure of his nor management's. i don't know what got you so worked up, but you are trying to turn success into tragedy.

Don't like pulling Zimmerman at 73 pitches. Yes, yes, I know, inning totals last year, but still
It ensures his QS. Makes him leave on a really high note. And he will get the W unless the slim chance of the pen allowing 7 runs in 3 innings comes true. Plus this is his third MLB appearance! Use kid gloves. Build on the good.
And if the wins and losses don't count, I can't see a reason to not protect Zimmerman.

Zimmerman: 19 of 23 first-pitch strikes.

No way in a million years will they have him start the 7th. Leave him with great feelings.

Just once I'd like to read/hear someone say that they only use Total Zone or UZR or Statcast data as the sole, indisputable measure of a player's skills. Just once. Because I've never heard anyone say that, but at least once a day I see someone make a point of saying they don't do that.
Not sure I understand your point. Like dWAR, I doubt that any GM uses "Total Zone or UZR or Statcast data as the sole, indisputable measure of a player's skills."
But there are plenty of fans who find WAR or dWAR to be discussion ending, with no nuance accepted. In other words, many use WAR or dWAR as "the sole, indisputable measure of a player's skills." That's not only dull and unintellectual, but foolish.
