Also Shohei Ohtani definitely deserves to be in the home run derby.
Dude’s only had like 174 at bats this year and already has 12 dingers, has a .552 SLG%, and has star power.

Means and Mancini both deserved it.
-
Real cool article and chart.
I really hope John Means does continue his success from this year and becomes our reliable lefty starter for years to come. I think he will be.
It'll be interesting to see what the catching unit looks like in a couple years. Lot of good stuff here. Wonder if there's any chance Sisco, Severino, and Rutschman will ever all be on the team at the same time? With one of them playing some 1B or DH?
I feel like Mancini deserves to be ranked a little higher than "55 above average" this year. I think he could at least be "60 plus", which is still below All Star level. I guess his outfield defense just sinks him, but it sucks because he really should be playing 1B and its out of his hands. If you look at his 2019 stats compared with all of the qualified AL first basemen, he ranks:
-3rd in OPS (.907)
-5th in HRs (17)
-1st in Avg. (.302)
-3rd in 2Bs (19)
That said, I think the 55 future rating for him is totally fair.

Love the write up Frobby, but I think you're being pretty tough on Nunez.
I know he had two homers last night since you wrote the initial post, but either way, I think its fair to say he's hitting way better than expected.
25 year old dude who had like 9 career home runs and a sub-100 career OPS+. Now this season he's got a .783 OPS, he's belted 18 home runs before the All Star Game, and he's got a 106 OPS+.
Give the poor guy a 'B' at least haha

I was at the game. I honestly think he just thought it was a favorable opportunity for Davis to bust out and rebuild some confidence in front of the hometown fans. Plus Rickard hadn’t done much with the bat yesterday.
The way Hyde talks about Davis, I think he does really want to figure out a way for him to be successful. I think he sees that as an important long term goal that is related to this team’s future.

Great move.
Alex Cobb (31)- 2.8 WAR over past three seasons. Making $14 million this season.
Andrew Cashner (32)- 4.6 WAR over past three seasons. Making $8 million this season.
Dan Straily (30)- 5.7 WAR over past three seasons. Making just 500k this season.

Jones is balling.
This was pretty funny too. Got the best of Manny here.
-
I woulda let him pitch till he let up a hit or finished the 7th. Which ever happened first. But what do I know?
-
Great question. Probably my two favorite players in the league today.
I think Jones gets a little more. Nick had an awesome year, but I think people will be weary of his age. The game is getting younger.
I could also see Jones playing some LF next season.

Guys... it’s the Red Sox.
Go Dodgers.

Interesting, I would rather see Gausman win that contest.
I don’t know. For some reason, I always love seeing our former position players play well. But I kind of get annoyed when our former pitchers play well.
Maybe it’s just lingering saltiness from Arrieta or something? Maybe it’s just that we’ve enjoyed much better hitting than (starting) pitching over the past ten years...
Still hoping the Braves can win this thing though!

Lets go Braves!
Schoop went 0-4 today in game 163 for the Brewers.
Manny has the only hit so far in the LA/Col game 163.
-
I think Mancini is a little young to be relegated to a career DH role.
I don’t like him in the OF at all, especially with the number of OFers in our farm system, but I think he could play a passable 1B.
I’d make Davis a DH against righties to start 2019. If he continues to play historically bad, and no one will take his contract regardless of how much money we eat or how much we sweeten the deal, then cut him.
-
He's looking good so far. 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA as a Brave with 12 Ks/4 BBs.
It's funny checking the Braves boxscores these days. "Hmm I see Gausman and Brach both had good nights. Nick got a hit. Looks like Flash didn't get in this time..."
Hope they win it all.

The choices to pinch hit are awful, to be fair.

Susac is doing nothing. I hope Wynns gets his shot.

Has anyone ever won MVP playing for two different teams in one season?
-
Stop sleeping on Joey!
This kid is baller. Plus defense, led the team in steals over the past two seasons combined, and he just cracked two dingers. I’m at the park now, and the fans LOVE him.
-
He needs to be sent down. He’s young, he’s a switch hitter, he could be back. Eventually. But he’s got to go.

Jose Bautista?

I think Rickard is better defensively than Gentry.
I know Rickard is better defensively than Santander or Mancini.
I always find myself sticking up for Rickard around here. Think he’s a good guy for Buck to have at his disposal and I don’t think he’s reached his ceiling.
Oh yea, and Anthony Santander has a .448 OPS.

Benefitting from more regular play time?
Much easier division?

He would have been our best starter last year.

I like this signing.
Now get Lynn and I think we have a shot. A long shot, but a shot.
