  1. Having one of my first baseball heroes pass is sad. I "met" him once when I was about 10. He signed an autograph and asked me if I played. Larger than life with a heart that matched. I know @Roy Firestone will bless us all with his thoughtful tributes and insight from one who knew Brooks and will eloquently make us both appreciate and miss Brooks.
  2. My first was the 1969 series and watching on the auditorium stage. I loved the day games
  3. Yes... I try to get home as much as possible (not often any longer) but I am seeing a lot of Yankees (ughhhh) there now... Probably a combination of O's ditching and bandwagon maybe.
  4. Growing up in Rochester I didn't get the Sun but followed the O's, my favorite team, having seen many of the team coming through the Rochester Red Wings. Of course, back then, there was that annual O's visit that you could not miss. I forgot the West Coast games. They rarely made it to the paper at all. I was annoyed with only the first few innings being in there but never remember it being some big tragic situation as I could imagine a few minutes would be these days, but I digress. Baseball probably helped me more with math than many classes. My skills from spending hours with stats still serve me well decades later. Thanks for sharing!
  5. When I first read this I thought "nah, you're just being ridiculous" but my next thought was... hmmm that may be a stroke of genius
  6. Yes on Jones and Roberts. But they were for 6 and 4 years respectively and not under JA's reign. We are talking much longer with an owner who, IMO, does everything possible to please Dad. In a weird way, I saw some Angelos in the show "Succession." What bothers me is the "It's going to be tough" BS starting. It appeared to me that he was being proactive and setting up later excuses. I believe he should ask his intelligent baseball people to tell him what an extension would look like, the risks, etc., and start a discussion with decent numbers. If it doesn't work ok you can plan accordingly but just cut the excuses now. People complain about Boras. Well, if he just sat back, and listened to what JA says it would be malpractice not to discuss options with his client that have a larger chance of happening. Yes, a few years down the road but would you trust JA?
  7. p.s. No frogs were hurt in the making of this video.
  8. guilty here... interviews and other arbitrary things for feeling that way. Sometimes, emotions take the place of common sense.
  9. I don't think you were wrong to like it - luckily it was not more than a minor move. I do agree that there just may not be room for him.
  10. oh... so then we just disagree. Thanks
  11. Which is why I said "in hindsight" not at the time the trade was made.
  12. My most emotional based on no facts or knowledge opinion his interviews, regardless of the outcome, are a downer. I mean, he is in his late 20's so maybe he is a cantankerous old man but it is almost like there is not much inspiration left. That is the most ridiculous thought I could write... right? I really have no issue going with young guys. It will make it more exciting, stressful and (hopefully not) upsetting.
  13. Yeah I know. At first with your knowledge I thought WTH happened to Mountcastle? Was away for a couple of days. Thanks!
  14. It will be fascinating to see how this winter plays out. Yes, I agree that there is too much young talent for the number of positions in the infield. I am one who thinks the outfield is in pretty darn good shape and you never have enough pitching. There is definite movable pieces that are a bit older or not resigned. My only concern is that if there is decent movement which one(s) will we regret in hindsight (see ERod, Hader, etc.) What an incredible reason for concern. Either way, let's win the World Series so we can start a great conversation. Man, if we had decent ownership.....
  15. What happened to Mountcastle?
  16. Looks too PO'd. Two mouths? If it could talk out of both sides of just one he could be J Angelos.
  17. yes, you are right... I guess the two-year period was at a time when a "stopper" didn't mean much...
  18. It has been so long since we actually had a real #1 outside of numbers I am not even sure what the definition is. I have seen other teams' true #1's pitch against us but not here. Back in my day of 4-starters an ace was the guy you thought would stop the losing streak at 3. The guy the other team did not want to face. I really can't remember that feeling since Mussina.
  19. I believe one seriously difficult thing to change is chasing any pitch consistently for a period of time. I have seen a few times when Ryan almost, almost swung at the "curve outside the zone" but pulled back. To me, if he can continue this improvement (habit?) he will get better pitches and his hit talent will be more consistent. I am a bit cynical when "bad luck" is mentioned at this level.
  20. I was thinking more a long the lines of a "smidgen" but skosk works just as well. Nice catch either way.
