  1. Also. If we're looking for any ray of hope, they put Felix on the 15-day IL, not 60. So MAYBE JUST MAYBE, there's a chance it's just a strain -- or at least they did not see a full tear during initial tests.
  2. The answer is the degree of injury. If it's a strain, maybe this year with rest. If it's any kind of tear. Nope., not this year. If it's a minor tear, maybe he avoids TJ surgery. If it's a major tear, then TJ surgery. Guessing if he had a yes or no answer and had complete results, he would say. But sure doesn't sound good.
  3. so. this is actually helpful for the speculation game https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/22760-ulnar-collateral-ligament-ucl-injuries
  4. If someone had told you last October that the O's would be in contention with 58 games remaining in the regular season... ?
  5. How about Addison Russell? given the lack of fan interest here right now, I can't imagine there would be much backlash. Hyde must be familiar with him.
  6. Haven't watched a game since June. Most of that is due to moving from NY to DC, where my MLB subscription won't allow me to watch the O's bc of blackout restrictions, and the streaming service I use, PSVUE, doesn't have a contract with MASN. It's a little frustrating, but I can't see paying any more money to watch this team right now.
  7. The line between "real" sports and gambling sites isn't much of a line at all anymore. And t's estimated that more than $150 billion is wagered on sports every year . If NBC is starting a network for gambling, you can bet there's money in it -- and that it's not a bad career move financially. One can debate whether it's a good moral move...
  8. 1) Chris Davis sets the hitless streak at 53. 2) Chris Davis sets the hitless streak to start a season at 49 3) AND NOW the O's are the fastest team ever to give up 100 home runs. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/26796852/o-pitching-staff-fastest-ever-allow-100-hrs
  9. Lucky fans. Crazy thing is I don't think that even makes the top 20 of his highlights with the O's.
  10. Manny. Wow. Just like old times.
  11. I think that's the reason Buck and Dan had to go. The atmosphere around this team last year just seemed to be "funeral." The O's are going to lose a lot this year, but at least they seem to be having some fun so far.
  12. Big day yesterday for Machado and Jones. Manny hit his first dinger with the Pads: AJ got some fans kicked out for being A-holes. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2019/04/04/he-gone-adam-jones-gets-fan-tossed-using-vulgar-language-san-diego/?utm_term=.47c9033d48bf
  13. This is hyperbole. But last night, when Hess had everything going, he looked like Arietta.
  14. “I think the biggest thing is that he cares about us a lot,” Hess said. “It’s hard as a player and, I’m sure, harder as a manager to pull a guy for the thought process of keeping him healthy and his well-being. So I have a ton of respect for him in the short time we’ve been together. He makes decisions that are based on the longevity of a player. He’s not thinking what is good right now but is thinking ahead and wants to take care of us. Biggest thing is he cares about each individual guy in this clubhouse and us as a team, and that really shows.”
  15. I don't have any problem at all with Hess getting pulled. The pitch count was high given short rest and the early point in the season. There's no need to put the kid's arm at risk. And, he was no longer hitting his spots. No matter where Sucre was calling for the ball, it was ending up in the fat part of the plate. He was about to get lit up. This way he ends on a positive note. My problem was brining in Araujo. I know he needed some work, and a 6 run lead is about the only place you want him. But given that the team no hitter was within reach, I would have liked to see Wright in first. See if you can take the no hitter another inning. See how far you can push it. It would have been a team defining moment, and Hyde gave that up. But all in all, Hess seemed to take it in stride. I think we're all more upset about this than the team.
  16. Yesterday some of the guys we loved and lost -- or in the case of Tim Beckam just endured and lost -- had pretty big days. I thought it might be fun to check in on how the ex-O’s we let go during the purge of 2018 are doing throughout the year. I don’t think this should be a running tab of misery, but perhaps something more sentimental, because I want Adam Jones and Jon Schoop to succeed in their new homes, and I’ll always be curious about how Manny marches toward a potential date with Cooperstown. So, maybe we can track how they’re doing. So, no. I don’t think that this should be a place to post highlights of Josh Hader’s awesome 6-out save yesterday. That’s milk spilt long ago. But hey. AJ went 2-4 with a dinger leading off for the D-Backs yesterday. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/d-backs-vs-dodgers/2019/03/28/565799#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=videos,game=565799 (Scroll down for the link) Manny went hitless in his Pad’s debut, but made a great play https://www.mlb.com/gameday/giants-vs-padres/2019/03/28/566275#game_state=final,game_tab=videos,game=566275 (Scroll down for links) Tim Beckham went yard twice off of Chris Sale http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=26383905 http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=26383606 And Schoop had an 0-fer
  17. Keith Law's take on Martin and Jackson: http://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/25526772/mlb-keith-law-bullpen-overpays-rule-5-results
  18. Gammons loved him at the 2015 draft. His grandfather played with Jackie Robinson and Satchel Paige on the Kansas City Monarchs. "He's really fun to watch. Plays with a lot of energy" Post draft interview. Sounds like a bright kid. Studied civil engineering.
  19. OAK's #12 prospect http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2018?list=oak Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 30 | Run: 55 | Arm: 60 | Field: 60 | Overall: 50 Many evaluators tabbed Martin as the top defensive shortstop in the 2015 Draft class before the A's made him the No. 20 overall pick and signed him for $1.95 million. Knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus sidelined Martin early in his first full season, and he produced uneven results at the plate in the Class A Advanced California League once finally healthy before a late-season promotion to Double-A Midland based on his defensive merits. Martin's offensive woes deepened in his return to level the next year, prompting a demotion from the A's back to Stockton, and he began '18 in extended spring training while recovering from his second offseason knee surgery in the past three years to repair a torn meniscus. But after making a healthy return, Martin's bat finally came around as he started to look more like the player the A's thought they were getting three years prior. Martin's impressive range at shortstop is a product of his athleticism and above-average speed, and scouts rave about his first-step quickness as well as his overall instincts. His arm is a clean fit at the position and enables him to make highlight-reel plays, but he's also capable of getting rid of the ball quickly while on the move, without sacrificing any accuracy. The A's have long held out hope for Martin's bat, believing that it would eventually catch up to his defense, and he's rewarded the club by making harder contact and driving the ball more consistently in 2018. He shows good bat-to-ball skills, doesn't strike out much and reaches base at a solid clip. He'll never hit for much power, but there's enough pop in his right-handed bat for him to a consistent source of extra-base hits.
