  1. What is so bad about Chris Archer? Nothing wrong with adding someone like Archer if you think you can fix them. He was always pretty solid in Tampa Bay and then seemed to really fall off after the trade to Pittsburgh. Every team, even the 100+ win teams like Houston and LAD, are always signing / trading / claiming guys for cheap that they think they can fix. If we had a full rotation and bullpen then it would only make sense on a minor league deal but as of right now we're looking at Rodriguez for who knows how many innings, Hall for who knows many innings, Kremer, Bradish, and Voth as the likely starters to begin the season. The bullpen has some openings too. They claimed Voth and his 10.13era in Washington and turned him into a 3.04era in 22 Baltimore appearances. Perez, Lyles, etc. are all success stories too. I'm not saying Archer or any other guy they sign for a few million is the answer to the rotation and all will pan out or anything but to freak out and act like the team is doomed because they might sign someone like this is a bit over the top IMO.
  2. Swanson and his career .321 OBP would be a terrible long term signing for a team with multiple high level SS prospects.
  3. That’s true about Hall but he’s also someone who has been in the system for awhile and I think Elias said he would make his debut last year if he was healthy.
  4. Manaea could be a nice buy low. Last year was the worst of his career. He was fine for the first half of the year but fell apart in July. If Holt thinks he can fix him he’d be a pretty solid 3/4 in any rotation with upside.
  5. .767 OPS in AAA. Elias has stated a bunch of times he wants guys to have success at AAA before going to the majors. IIRC, he also said he likes to send someone to a level near the end of the season so they can start at that level the next year. Do those rules apply to a first round pick? Nobody but Elias knows for sure.
  6. Hays career - .257/.309/.434 Benintendi career - .279/.351/.431 Hays 2022 - .250/.306/.413 Benintendi - .304/.373/.399 No matter what way you want to look at the numbers it is clear that Benintendi is a significantly better hitter than Hays. When you take into account that his defense is also better there really should be no doubt that Benintendi would be a huge upgrade.
  7. Who are they? There is not a single OF on the 40 man roster who has a career OBP close to .351 and plays good defense.
  8. IIRC that trade was universally regarded as an extreme overpay and that was proven right almost immediately. I guess I shouldn't have said "in their right mind" and should have instead said "any competent baseball front office".
  9. The Orioles as a team last year were 20th in average, 22nd in OBP, and 20th in OPS. Those stats alone should tell you that there is a lot of room for improvement in the lineup. Just to go based off the three that you mention: Brantley - career .794 OPS Abreu - career .860 OPS Pederson - career .804 OPS Orioles only had 3 players last season with an OPS over .750 and one of them was Gunnar Henderson who only played in 34 games. Adding one or two of them to the mix would be a great addition and would allow the team to trade from their prospect pool and acquire better starting pitching. This is a team that was below average offensively last year and can use all the help it can get in the lineup. They should be signing 1 or 2 hitters as well as calling up prospects.
  10. I don't think either of them are worth much on their own but both of them are pretty good 2nd or 3rd players in a trade for an established starter. Urias is probably worth more because he has more versatility and is a much better hitter.
  11. Those values on that website are ridiculous. There is no way anyone in their right mind would trade a kid they just took #1 overall and gave one of the highest signing bonus totals ever to and then trade him plus two other legitimate prospects for 2 years of a starting pitcher.
  12. Last year as a team vs left handed pitching: Average - 26th OBP - 25th OPS - 24th For me, they should be much more focused on signing people that can hit left handed pitching rather than finding guys who can hit from the left side of the plate.
  13. I would look to move him this offseason as part of a package for a starting pitcher.
  14. Bautista and Perez should be back and in the same roles. Move Wells to the bullpen. Trade Tate and allow Baker and/or Wells to take over his role. The rest of it can be filled out with rule 5, waiver adds, or guys who are already here. The most important thing is to have a solid back of the bullpen which they currently have.
  15. Phillies payroll is one of the highest in baseball. They have way more talent than the Orioles did on their roster. As a previous poster said the team the O's should be taking lessons from is the Astros. Which I am pretty sure they are.
  16. Career vs LHP - .305/.377/.548 2022 vs LHP - .294/.387/.471 O's as a team in 2022 vs LHP - .224/.297/.366 So, yes, he would be a great signing. He's fine at 1B. There's more than enough room for him.
  17. The only reason they shouldn't exercise the option is if they sign him to a 2 or 3 year deal. Having a solid and consistent starter, even if he is at the back of the rotation, is a very nice thing to have.
  18. Yes, if they are within striking distance I expect he will be up with 30 or so games left. Whatever the number is that would keep his rookie status.
  19. 1) No, there is way too much talent in the system at SS to spend big on Correa. Jorge Mateo has a higher fWAR and bWAR than him this year. I don't think Mateo is better I'm just illustrating that they already have a fine SS. Upgrading at SS really won't be a big boost and long term won't help either. 2) They seem to really like Santander as he bats in the middle of the order and they keep not trading him. I would think Stowers at the very least should start the year on the big league club but who knows. Phillips and McKenna are pretty good options as the 4th outfielder. Elias met with Mullins so I doubt he is going anywhere. I think they should trade Hays and Santander but my guess is they'll only trade Hays or Stowers for pitching. Personally, I'd start the year off with Stowers, Mullins, and platoon Philips/McKenna until Cowser is ready. 3) I think Mateo, Mountcastle, and Henderson will be your everyday starters. Westburg, Urias, Vavra will mix in with 2B, DH, etc.. At least one of them should be traded for pitching maybe two. 4) My best guess is they'll be trying to sign one or two starters for 10-15mil a season at 2-4 years. I like Clevinger, Eflin, Manaea, and Perez as guys that might sign around that but I have no idea what any of them will get. If they exercise Lyles' option or just resign him they could have a pretty solid rotation next year. Nothing amazing but could be like those Duquette teams where they have 4 or 5 guys that don't kill you or let the games get away from them. 5) I would rather trade Hays + and infielder and maybe a prospect or two for a Lopez type vs trading Mullins. Mullins has a better track record than Hays does IMO. He obviously isn't the 30/30 guy that he was last year but he did show he can reach his ceiling. Hays seems to always be bothered by some sort of injury. Does Hays, Urias, and a bottom top 10 type of prospect get it done? I doubt it, they'll probably want Westburg, Hall, or Mayo. They seem to really like Westburg and Henderson together so I'm not sure if they pull the trigger on Hays + Westburg or not. That would leave you with say Lopez, Manaea, Wells, Rodriguez, and then Watkins, Kremer, Bradish, Hall, whoever can fight it out for the 5th spot. What I expect to happen is they'll sign or trade for one starter, bring back Lyles, have Wells and Rodriguez in the rotation, and let Watkins start again. Then have Kremer and Bradish compete for the 5th spot until they are ready to bring up Hall.
  20. Why not both? Santander is fine and all but the Orioles have a lot of OF that are either ready now or will be in the next year or two. Snell has been unlucky this year and is a great buy low / salary dump pick up if they're really looking to move him. There aren't many pitchers in all of baseball that are as talented as him. They have multiple OF, 2B, and 3B that are either ready now or will be in the next year or two. Trading Hall and multiple of the lower ranked prospects like a Norby, Prieto, etc. from a position you have depth in would be worth it. Adding two legitimate front of the rotation talents to a team with not much to show for pitching prospects would be worth it (I do get the irony of trading one of the only two highly ranked pitching prospects in the system). I would be more interested in Luis Castillo than Montas or Lopez though. Adding Snell and one of the other available pitchers would really bolster the playoff chances this year and turn the team into a true contender going into 2023.
