  1. Not trading Mullins. Under contract for two more years. Really good value. Injuries are a concern but he's a much better hitter than his numbers showed this year. A 3.0 WAR kind of guy each year. At minimum, wait a year to trade him.

I don't mind getting rid of O'Hearn, Urias or Mateo. I think O'Hearn stays, though. I don't see the point of trading him. How much value does he have?

I actually would like to trade Hays the most. I'd like to bring back Hicks for depth.

Westburg - He played all three postseason games. I think the O's like him and he stays as a starter at 2B.

Ortiz - I think he's gone. If he's just going to be a 4th infielder, then trade him as opposed to Mateo or Urias who have far less trade value.

Kjerstad - Need his bat. Needs consistent playing time early next year

    Mayo - Midseason call up

Holliday - Permanent SS whenever he gets the call

Cowser - Needs PT early next year at the MLB level

    Norby - Hold

    Stowers - Good as gone

    C - Rutschman

    1B - Mountcastle

    2B - Westburg

    3B - Henderson

    SS - Holliday

    LF - Cowser

    CF - Mullins

    RF - Santander/Kjerstad

    DH - Santander/Kjerstad

    B - McCann

    B - Hicks

    B - O'Hearn

    B - one of Mateo/Urias

This is assuming no FA signings. I think you're holding on most of the MLB level players until the prospects are ready. You can trade them midseason if/when the time comes.

Now forget baseball and enjoy life.   Go Orioles.

Agreed. These Orioles playoff seasons are always so intense. 162 games. It's rare that O's fans have a team like we have had the last two years now, so I'm not willing to take it for granted and I'm going to watch the O's as much as I can. 2012 was the same way for me - it was a grind getting through 162 games, most of which take up your entire evening. Hopefully the O's are just starting a long run of good teams, and I won't feel the need to grind out the entire season so extensively.

For that reason, I'm also thankful for the new rule changes that speed up a game. In addition to the O's putting out a team worth watching, I think the rule changes made for better quality as well.

  3. I've been a lurker here for upwards of 20 years. My profile says 2022, but I've been here for a long time. Only recently have I started to post occasionally. I've always appreciated Frobby's posts. Probably the best poster I've ever seen on a forum. Well thought out, hardly argumentative, always productive.

I also appreciate Tony's insights. I find them very valuable, and another person who always has productive and well thought out posts.

  4. It depends on what the O's do with their rotation over the offseason. I'm comfortable with Bradish, Gray-Rod, and Means, and Kremer is fine for the back end of the rotation. But if the O's don't make a significant move for the last spot in the rotation, they'll need some fire power and flexibility to round out their rotation. Hall is a guy that they may be able to bounce around as an innings eater.

I'd like to keep Wells in the bullpen, but he's probably earned the right to compete for a rotation spot with how he performed in the first half of the season and how good he looked to end the season. But I'd really like to see him be a late innings guy for 2024. I'm just not a fan of his as a starter, and I think he has the ability to be a top top reliever. And with Bautista out, there's an opportunity there.

  5. I actually thought Bradish looked pretty good. 9 Ks in 4.2 innings. Gave up some hits but only walked one. Wells looked good. There's a lot more to build around than just the obvious guys like Gunnar, Adley, Rodriguez, and Holliday.

I'd like to see Hicks back in an O's uniform next year.

I'm just happy all of the young guys got postseason experience.

My biggest concern for the offseason is Angelos not spending. The O's went from Odor and Lyles to Frazier and Gibson. Upgrades, but not massive upgrades, but a step in the right direction. Now they go from Frazier and Gibson to what?

For me, it's not even about Grayson. Grayson was going to pitch in this series. So, we have to live with what he gave us.

Baker on the other hand, had no business being on the roster, let alone seeing the mound.

That’s fair, but if Grayson doesn’t have a bad start like that we’re not talking about Baker. Flaherty would have probably been the best option. But I don’t think Grayson giving up 5 runs after being given a 2-0 lead can be overlooked. That was the number one problem with Game 2.

Irvin is not on the ALDS roster.

Oh wow, that’s what I thought at first but then I saw one list that said he was, and  I’m pretty sure it was from the O’s social media team. I was confused so I checked it twice. Weird.

So here we sit in the cold leftovers of just a bummer of a weekend. The Orioles that showed up on Saturday and Sunday did not seem like the team that we have watched all summer. The team that generated just an immaculate vibe.

Horrible pitching in game two, shockingly unclutch hitting in game one, miscommunication on the play in the late innings, and to top it all off noteable pest Zack Hemple claims he caught Gunnar's homer in the flag court.

The vibe is in shambles my friends.

What are we doing in the next 24 hours to bring it back?

I don't know, maybe it's just me. Game 1 was fine. It's the playoffs and it was competitive through the last out. Some things didn't go the Orioles way. But nothing to really be upset over.

Game 2, Grayson just didn't bring it. But the bats and the team showed energy and life. If Grayson put together an okay performance, we might be sitting here with a 1-1 tie and feeling decent. But the starting pitching hasn't been as good as Texas' starting pitching.

What brings it back? Scoring first with our lineup becoming electric again, and shutting the door with pitching each inning.

Or just a crazy comeback win that gives the O's some momentum, which we've seen time and time this year.

Why is Dean Kremer starting tonight? Would’ve expected the veteran Kyle Gibson instead of the guy making his postseason debut.

I know they're trying to win a series, but I do think that Kremer getting postseason experience has value over a guy that won't be on the team next year.

Perhaps they'll use Gibson as well tonight and deal with a Game 4 starter if/when that time comes. Could be back to back "bullpen" games. They still have Irvin available as well. Personally, I like the idea of limiting our pitchers to one time through the order and try to chip away inning by inning at this 2-0 deficit.

  10. Just getting the game back to Camden would be a big achievement, certainly do-able. Honestly, getting out of Camden might benefit the Orioles the way Texas flipped all of the O's bats to the right side. But bringing it back home to Baltimore for Game 5 would be pretty incredible.

At minimum, this is invaluable experience for the O's youngsters.

  11. The playoffs aren't supposed to be fair. They just need to make some minor tweaks. Perhaps going back to the one game playoff for the Wild Card round would be an option. At minimum, no one is going to complain about getting a bye if they don't have to play a one game playoff. Plus it would mess up the wild card teams rotations a little more, and wouldn't allow one team to get into a groove.

You can protect the significance of the most grueling regular season in professional sports AND appease the money-making interest of more teams in the playoffs by simply rewarding the higher seeded team in the following manner:  They must simply win one less game. They must win two before the lower seeded team wins three or must win three before the lower seeded team wins four. The World Series is then a straight up best of seven.

    Problem solved.

So a team can win Game 6 down 2-3 in a series and win the series? Or Game 4 down 1-2? C'mon. Like that's going to make things better.

It definitely is. I was shocked when he went in for defense but honestly, would Hyde pinch run for Gunnar with Mateo?

I don’t like pinch hitting with O’Hearn there for that reason. But I don’t think he would have subbed Henderson for Mateo.

if nothing else it’s a learning moment for Henderson. We’re not going back to Showalter not using Britton. You play the guys who got you there.

You bunt Frazier.  Get Hicks to second with 1 out and PR Mateo for Hicks.  That puts some pressure on the defense.

    He had a 3-0 count. You’re bunting with a 3-0 count?

They getting swept. The moment is too big for them.

I gotta stay out of these game threads. Lose a game by 1 run. Going to get swept now. I feel like this is how these threads have been all year long.

I think we’d get a lot of increased value by having two stars on the left side of the IF, and a Frazier/Westburg platoon at 2B. Positional players get the edge for me.

I assume we’d be getting the tail end of Cal’s career if it’s after the wildcard started. I can see an argument for Alomar though.

    Good point about Ripken.

1996 Brady Anderson anyone? 2005 Brian Roberts?

I kinda like the idea of packaging Means and Kremer together. You don’t overexpose Means — which has been a little bit of an issue as he’s gone deeper into games — and I think it would give them two pretty different looks to deal with. Hopefully don’t let them get comfortable.

Have Means pitch to about 15 batters (essentially get through Nathaniel Lowe’s second AB) and then have Kremer take over from there. That should hopefully get you deep enough into the game that you can start playing mix and match with our higher-end relievers.

I could absolutely see the O’s doing a “bullpen” game in 3 and/or 4 and using the likes of Means, Kremer and/or Gibson one time through the order or so. Even Wells, perhaps.
