The Keys started their scoring in the third, tallying three off of Red Sox starter Daniel McGrath.Alex Murphy and Shane Hoelscher recorded back-to-back doubles, while Steve Laurinogrounded into a fielder’s choice to score Hoelscher. Later in the frame, Ryan Mountcastle doubled home Hays from first.

Hoelscher recorded his second of four RBIs in the third, thanks to a base hit which scored Murphy from second, and an RBI double by Hays in the fourth made it 5-0 Keys.

Frederick starter Cristian Alvarado retired the first 10 he faced, before giving up a double to Chad De La Guerra and an RBI single to Josh Ockimey in the fourth. Two of his only blemishes on the night, Alvarado (3-6) earned the win delivering 6.1 innings of two-run, four-hit baseball. He walked one and struck out seven. The Hickory Crawdads scored one run in each of the final three innings to upend the Delmarva Shorebirds 5-3 on Saturday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Down 3-2 in the top of the seventh, the Crawdads (21-35) got a one-out double from Carlos Garay. Jose Almonte then belted one to left center. Ryan McKenna had a long run from center and had the ball in the glove but ultimately dropped the fly, and Garay scored from second to tie the game 3-3 after the error.

Against reliever Tyler Erwin in the eighth, Ti’Quan Forbes slashed a one-out single and eventually stole second base. With two outs, Garay again played the crucial role for Hickory, dropping a shallow fly into center for a base hit. Forbes came around to score and make it 4-3 for the visitors.

Hickory added one more in the top of the ninth as Blaine Prescott singled and scored on a Franklin Rollin double to the left field corner. The Shorebirds (23-31) got a one-out baserunner in Jerry McClanahan in the bottom of the ninth, but Alejandro Juvier struck out and McKenna rolled out to second to end the game.

Luke Lanphere (2-0) picked up the win in relief, allowing two runs on three hits in four innings while walking two and striking out three. Erwin (0-1) took the loss after allowing two runs on four hits in two innings. C.D. Pelham earned a two-inning save, his first of the season, walking one and striking out four.

The loss snaps the Shorebirds’ season high-tying three-game winning streak and ends a four-game skid for the Crawdads.

The Crawdads struck in the top of the second as Forbes cracked a line drive over the left field wall for his seventh home run of the year, making it 1-0. Ricardo Valencia followed with a double and scored three batters later on a two-out throwing error by Collin Woody at third base.

Delmarva got one back in the bottom of the second. Preston Palmeiro led off with a single and Woody was plunked for the 18th time this year, putting two on. After an infield fly, Frank Crinella hit a potential double play grounder to second, but after a successful force at second Prescott’s throw to first sailed high, allowing Palmeiro to score and Crinella to advance to second. The errant turn cut the Shorebird deficit in half, 2-1.

It would stay that way until the bottom of the sixth. Palmeiro worked a one-out walk, then with two down Gerrion Grim belted a long homer off the top of the back wall of advertisements in left center. Grim’s eighth round-tripper of the year put the Shorebirds up 3-2. Crinella followed with a triple but Delmarva couldn’t get the insurance run across.

Palmeiro reached three times for Delmarva, going 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs. Juvier finished 2-for-4.

Garay went 2-for-4 with a double, the game-tying run, and the go-ahead single to lead the Crawdads. Forbes finished 2-for-4 with a home run, stolen base, and two runs scored, and Prescott went 3-for-4 with a run.
