  1. I’m not trying to do some hot take. I’m just saying that I don’t see how Povich cracks this rotation over the next two seasons, and I dont think his relief profile is better than the LH relievers we have. So therefore I think his best value to us would be a trade to a 2nd division/rebuilding club. But all of this is just my opinion. And if people want to disagree that’s welcome. It’s a discussion board. If anyone thinks my opinion is a hot take, or it rubs then wrong personally, or goes against the group think, well that’s more on them. We’re all allowed to have opinions. Nothing personal. I love the winning and the new posters, but a simple differing opinion shouldn’t result in neg reps or devolving into Facebook level posts. I appreciate the discussion. Heck, sell me on Povich. Where does he fit in on our roster through 2025?
  2. He can still have an impact on this team as an optionable reliever. He’d probably not get above relief option any way on this year’s team and maybe that’s what best for him long term given his injury history. However, we do lose Burnes and Means after this season. Wells and Suarez are at least options to start next season.
  3. It’s funny that we always make such a big deal about service time and getting the extra year, and avoiding super two, but oddly the players closest to FA are the ones struggling on our team other than Burnes. Means, Santa, Hays, and Mullins. If Mayo can play some 3B/RF then there is a role for him on this team to replace McKenna. When Hays is ready to come back we can reevaluate things to see who would go. I’d like to see Mayo’s bat vs the LHP the next two games in the small park.
  4. Definitely gotta respect Irvin. He seems like a guy that is willing to do whatever to win. This isn’t the first dominant stretch of his career. He was leading the AL in ERA at the all star break in 2022.
  5. I appreciate that take. Overall, Neither of McDermott, Povich, and Johnson, are starters. Definitely not starters for a team that looks like it will be a perennial 100ish win team for a few years. For us, they’re going to be relievers or trade bait. Just like Drew Rom last year. If we’re ranking them as relievers then I’m going with McDermott, Johnson, and Povich in that order. Not every failed/flawed starter just magically turns into a reliever. I don’t see a dominant, or even an above average MLB pitch for Povich to use as a carrying tool in the MLB. But maybe he gets a chance to start for a team like Rom did last year and see. We can agree to disagree, and I hope I’m wrong.
  6. You can’t throw a top 100 prospect ranking at a batter to get him out? It’s ok to have differing opinions on players. Who knows who is right? But… Povich is not like Coloumbe. Coloumbe throws way harder and has way better control. I’d say he’s even a step behind Vespi. Vespi has good MLB numbers and would probably be in the majors right if he wasn’t in our org. A Povich comp might be Drew Rom, but that’s my opinion and it’s nothing personal.
  7. Mayo could DH versus LH SP, and play some 3rd va RHP. Ramon could enter in late as a defensive sub. That’s an everyday role with 1 off day a week.
  8. A reliever for us. He’d be behind Coloumbe, Akin, Perez, and Vespi. We have a really good team. It’s crazy to just assume that the next prospect is always going to be better than what we currently have. We’re not just going to cast aside successful and trusted relievers to ride with Povich that may be our 5th best LH RP. It would be best for him to go to a team that isn’t trying to win on a nightly basis and see if his stuff plays at the MLB level. Just because someone is an Orioles farmhand doesn’t give them a super power. They need to be able to get MLB hitters out with stuff. Nothing against Povich, I root for him, but we just DFA’d Yohan Ramirez that probably has a more playable arsenal out of the pen than Povich would. 97 with a plus sweeper. Povich seems like Zimmerman 2.0. Hope he finds a stuff uptick. But it is what it is.
  9. It’s hard to see a path where Povich would ever be anything for us than depth/up down guy. Basically Zimmerman 2.0. There’s only 5 rotation spots and we’re win now mode. Also, as a reliever he might not be as good as what we have in Vespi. No knock on Povich. We have a top 3 26 and 40 man roster in the sport. An optionable depth piece with our Wall would be ok, but we’d probably get more value to use him as a trade chip either at the deadline, or offseason, to get a reliever or in a package for a better SP. Maybe we see Zimmerman and Povich packaged together for a reliever like Kopech. Just spitballing a name we’re familiar with.
  10. Heston takes over for Santa in 25’. Then takes over O’Hearn’s role in 26’+. Beavers should be in the mix for 26’ and would be a much better fielder in RF/LF.
  11. Elias getting O’Hearn to agree on that team option for next year at $3 million was a savvy move. We didn’t fight him as much in arb for this season, so he gave us a FA year for only $3 million. Elias’ first extension.
  12. Mayo would get more use than Kjerstad over these next 10 games. Especially with all the LH SP. Just sayin…
