So I guess this question is limited to players who started their major league careers with the Orioles? I’ll take a guess that Al Bumbry was one. Maybe Jim Gentile. Adley. Markakis. Boog. Those are my guesses.

Anyone with Holliday’s track record would have gotten the hype. It wasn’t just the Orioles ginning it up. He’s a 1:1 pick, considered the top prospect in the game, and went through four levels of the minors in a year at age 19. On top of that, his dad was a star player for 15 years. Of course there was going to be hype! I have zero problems with any decisions the O’s have made with him or how they handled his time in the majors. He’ll go back to Norfolk, re-set, and be back up later this year. Not everyone has a perfect glide path to the majors - ask Mike Trout.

It’s irrelevant. Suarez’s turn comes up on Sunday, so he’s not going to face the Yankees.

Means’ last outing was somewhat encouraging, but I’m glad they’re giving him another outing down in AAA.

Well, it’s clear that Gunnar has played better than most 1:1’s typically have at his stage of career. Adley too. The median career for a 1:1 is about 15 rWAR. Adley has a good chance to surpass that this year, after just three seasons. Gunnar already has the 5th-most rWAR of any player drafted at no. 42, and he’s got a pretty good chance to be the best 42nd pick ever. (Dennis Leonard at 25.7 rWAR currently tops the list.)

Isn’t the fact that they’re all at about the same level the reason why it’s a dilemma? If a couple of guys were clearly a cut above the others, the dilemma wouldn’t exist. That said, Kremer, Irvin and Suarez all had good turns in the rotation the last time through. There’s no huge rush to move anyone out of the rotation IMO.

Arguably, you have a better chance of extending a player than of signing that player as a free agent. So when drafting, you might take that into account.

When second guessing a 1:1 pick, are you looking at his the player does with the 6+ years of team control, or over an entire career? In any event, even in hindsight, I’m very comfortable with Adley as our 1:1. He had the best combo of high ceiling/high floor in the draft. He’s on pace to give us 30+ WAR in his six years under team control, and the team went from laughingstock to winner the nanosecond he arrived in the major leagues. That works for me!

If they really want to get his bat going, send him to Delmarva!

I did see the Fangraphs article, which was about how Norfolk would do against the weakest MLB teams. I may have posted it here somewhere.

I don’t know what the Hays injury situation is, but this may be a very short call-up for McKenna. I think Hays is eligible to come off the IL on Wednesday.

I’m not too surprised about Holliday. I’m somewhat surprised about McKenna. I guess they want an option for late inning defense in the OF for Santander or Kjerstad.

I must be in the minority. I pay no attention to what uniforms and caps are worn on a given day. You could ask me five minutes after the game what caps the team wore, and I wouldn’t be able to tell you. But I could tell you what happened in the game in vivid detail.

Their record says otherwise. But I’d be happy for you to be proven right.

My guess is they’ll just go in the present order: GRod, Kremer, Burnes, Irvin.
